Aryan Sharma, 20, was last seen in the early hours of November 23 on the outskirts of Loughborough, Leicestershire, at around 12.30am.'
''He left his accommodation at around 9.30pm and was last spotted walking towards Stanford-on-the-Soar before he disappeared.
The “devastated” family of the Loughborough University robotics student have said they “just want to find him safe”.

Leicestershire Police has now released footage of Aryan jogging along a road in Loughborough town centre as the urgent search for him nears its second week.''

“We just want to find him safe. He’s loved by this family. He is an older brother, he’s a cousin, he’s one of the five boys of this family.

“Our biggest concern now is that no one in the family has spoken to him since at least Friday.

“It’s been really cold since he has been missing, and we haven’t been able to get in contact with him. We just want him to be okay, and we want him to come home to his mum.''

  • What we know about missing Loughborough student Aryan Sharma
  • ''Police launched a major search operation which is continuing today (Monday, December 1) around the Stanford Viaduct area, known as a popular spot for local skaters. The operation includes specialist underwater divers, police helicopters, officers in canoes and specialist search teams combing the area.
  • On Friday (November 29), police confirmed that divers have been searching a stretch of the River Soar between Meadow Lane and Cotes. Search teams have been battling awful weather conditions including gales and rain as they hunt for the missing student.''

  • ''Aryan is described as Asian, 5ft 5ins tall, of slim build with collar-length black hair. He was wearing a distinctive black calf-length leather-style trench coat, shorts and black trainers with white trim when he disappeared. His family say his disappearance is completely out of character, describing him as "a pleasant, gentle individual" who "wouldn't hurt a soul."

''The 20-year-old was last seen on CCTV on Meadow Lane, on the outskirts of Loughborough, at 12.30am on Saturday 22 November.
He was walking towards the Stanford on the Soar area, having been in the town centre a few hours earlier.

Extensive enquiries have been carried out to establish Aryan’s movements that night, but the police are still keen to hear from any motorists or pedestrians who may have seen him walking along Meadow Lane, Stanford Lane or the surrounding area between 12.15am and 2am on Saturday morning.

The investigation team are encouraging drivers to check their dashcam footage around this time.''

''Aryan Sharma's parents said his disappearance was completely out of character
The mother of a missing student has made a direct appeal for him to come home, saying "we're all waiting for you".

Leicestershire Police said Aryan Sharma, 20, was last seen on CCTV at about 00:30 GMT on 22 November in Meadow Lane, walking towards Stanford-on-Soar just outside Loughborough.

Aryan's parents Sukhi and Rakesh Sharma spoke as police released the CCTV of their son - a student at Loughborough University - in the hope he can be found.

Mrs Sharma said: "Aryan, this is mummy. I love you. Please come home. We're all waiting for you."

''On Wednesday, teams searched in ditches and fields for clues and officers handed out leaflets to members of the public in the town centre.

Police divers have also been searching nearby watercourses.''

"Christmas is coming. His 21st birthday is coming. His sister's waiting for him, she asks every day. I just want my boy back. I want him home."

Interesting to note, there was a similar situation in Loughborough where Shahab Uddin went missing a few months ago. He too was seen running down the road at midnight and found dead on the bank of the A6 a few days later.

''Almost two weeks after he disappeared, I walked the route to understand the challenges facing the search operation.

After speaking with residents and police on Thursday, I walked from Baxter Gate to Loughborough Meadows, where search efforts have been concentrated.

The walk took about 45 minutes at a steady pace in daylight. It could take far longer at night, in disorientating freezing conditions. These are the things I noticed along the way.

The darkness makes navigation almost impossible

Walking the route reveals an immediate problem. Meadow Lane becomes extremely narrow with no footpath and no lighting. For a pedestrian at 12.30am, continuing along this stretch would be treacherous.''

There is something odd about his gait imo, like he is in pain or impaired somehow. Anyone else see this? Poor parents, this is awful, I so hope he is found soon.

I cannot believe that no one of his friends knows where he was going or what his plans for the evening where.
The night between 22nd and 23rd was a Saturday, he left his dormitory at 2130, so the most likely thing is that he was going for a Saturday night out to meet friends or someone in particular.
Does anybody know what time the CCTV video was recorded? I couldn't find that info anywhere.
The spot where the video was recorded is located geographically between his home and the spot he was last seen at (meadow lane) but there are 3 hrs between him leaving home and the last sighting, so what did he do in those 3 hrs?
Surely someone knows where he was, and if he was in town the whole time more cameras would have captured him, unless of course he was at someone else's residence.

Curious to see how this pans out.

Yes, or possibly like he's been running for a while and is getting out of breath. He also looks like he's got his hands in his pockets?

I'm trying to find where I read that he was just walking around town for hours. Will keep looking but in the meantime, from this DM article it seems like they pretty much know where he was/have CCTV of him up until 12.30 but then this time window is quite curious:

"The force said they had been carrying out extensive enquiries to establish Aryan's movements that night.

But they are still keen to hear from any motorists or pedestrians who may have seen him walking along Meadow Lane, Stanford Lane or the surrounding area between 12.15am and 2am on Saturday morning."

Maybe they are trying to minimize the effort from public by giving a 1.5 hr window, but it's interesting that it doesn't just say "after 12.15".

Or maybe they are trying to rule out which direction he went next.

He’s running with his hands in his coat pockets. His gait is clunky but he doesn’t look impaired or injured.

I'm hoping they have a lot more than they are telling and possibly, as you say they may be actually looking at specific scenarios and that's why they are being specific in the timeframe.

I have to say, the overall picture to me looks like a mental health crisis, but it's pure speculation on my part.

"Mrs Sharma said she became worried and "felt something wasn't right" when he had not been in touch for three days and reported him missing on 24 November."

ETA : link: Mum of missing Loughborough student says 'I love you, come home'

So none of his university pals reported him missing?

That does seem odd. Do we know if he was in halls or a house share?.

I remember university being an absolute hotbed of mental health crises. Young people alone for the first time in their lives, confusing social situations, the pressure of work.

It seems like he just set out into the night, and you would hope if he had been suffering from a crisis that his housemates would have spotted the warning signs and be able to tell police this. But if that's the case it's pretty odd they didn't report him missing. JMO.

Curious that they chose to release this running footage. Most of what they describe is him walking. If they just want drivers to be able to identify him then why show this footage of him running?

Did he live alone?

BBM

Absolutely. When I was an undergrad (just before the pandemic hit) a committee I was on ran a campaign for better mental health services at the university. We bought a whole load of blank postcards and asked students to write messages to the Vice Chancellor about their experiences with mental health at uni and whether they had been able to access support. We got several hundred responses, and some of those students' stories will likely stay with me forever.

Shahab went missing in August around the Wykes Close area of Quorn and Aryan was last seen walking along meadow lane towards Stanford-on-Soar just outside Loughborough. It could be nothing but both distances are about ten minutes apart by car, around an hour and a bit (15 mins ish) on foot and both spots sit right on the edge of town near open fields and quiet river paths
