This kid's kinda single handedly restored my faith in humanity !

Here's some of the e-mail he's sent out ;

Our petition and all the public pressure has worked!

Over 250,000 people signed my petition. And yesterday I took the petition to Downing Street.

If it wasn't for you and all the public support I don't think this would have happened.

Today I have been on Good Morning Britain, Sky News and Channel 5. I'm 16 years-old and never thought I would be stood in front of 10 Downing Street delivering a message to the Prime Minister or talking to Holly and Phill on This Morning, but when I saw what was happening to our neighbours, the King family, I knew I had to do something and so started this petition.

Now the family are reunited and they can make sure that Ashya gets the love and care he needs.

Thank you again. We did it!

UK CANCER CHARITY TO FUND ASHYA KING'S TREATMENT

http://www.itv.com/news/update/2014-09-03/uk-cancer-charity-to-fund-ashya-kings-treatment/

A cancer charity in Derby said the King family have accepted their offer to pay the full cost of the proton beam treatment for five-year-old Ashya.

Kidsncancer chief executive Mike Hyman told ITV News they have been inundated with donations from the public following the arrest of Brett and Naghmeh King. He said:

It will take at least a £100,000, and probably a £150,000 to pay for the treatment as well as the cost of accomodation for the months of the treatment for the family. It is our wish that they come back from wherever they go they are not in debt, and can return to their normal life.

The situation they have been through is absolutely appalling. To be imprisoned like criminals, 300 miles away from their sick child is disgraceful and disgusting.

I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the public, who obviously feel like we do that this family deserve support at this desperate time.

PARENTS REQUEST SPANISH CITIZENSHIP FOR ASHYA

http://www.rtve.es/noticias/mas-24/

According to the Spanish channel RTV.es Canal 24 the parents claim that they still have custody of their son Ashya.

They request that their son be given the Spanish nationality, to which he has a right because he was born there.

Given that he's habitually resident in the UK, I can't see that that would make much difference.

ASHYA'S NOTES DELAYED BY HOSPITAL FOR TWO WEEKS

LBC's Tom Swarbrick reports:
http://www.lbc.co.uk/southampton-hospital-delayed-ashyas-notes-for-two-weeks-96444

"We now know that the family first contacted the Proton centre in Prague on 20th August, applying for treatment for Ashya.

"A statement from Southampton Hospital yesterday says they had discussed the treatment with the family, but that in their opinion it would have no benefit to Ashya over the standard radiotherapy he was due to receive. But that they would refer him. That referral was on the 20th.

"The Proton Center then requested the medical records from the family, who asked for them from Sothampton Hospital. These are the medical records for Ashya, without which the Proton centre can't start the treatment process.

"When I spoke to Iva Tatonova, Director of Strategy at the Proton Centre yesterday, two weeks after the original request for treatment, the paperwork from Southampton Hospital still hadn't been sent.

Meanwhile, the Proton Centre has received the paperwork.

PRESS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE QUESTIONING OF ESTABLISHMENT AT THE OUTSET OF ASHYA KING STORY

Press Gazette:
http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/conte...tioning-establishment-outset-ashya-king-story

Nobody wants anything but the best for Ashya King - but, my goodness, everybody seems to have conspired to bring about the worst.

(...)

Setting aside for a moment the rights and wrongs of the police handling of this case, the national newspaper coverage has been a classic example of believing the last person you spoke to. That has led some to perform a 180-degree turn in the space of 72 hours. It's amazing how the odd fact thrown into or tossed out of the mix can change the flavour of the pudding.

On Saturday morning most papers reported the urgent search for Ashya, who had been "snatched", "abducted" or at the very least "removed without doctors' consent" by his parents from Southampton General Hospital and could die within hours if not found. The parents, what is more, had "fled abroad".

And in case there was any doubt about who was at fault here, we were generally told within the first five pars that the parents were Jehovah's Witnesses. Would we be expected to have been told if they were members of the United Reformed Church or Rastafarians?

The hospital and police may argue that the information was released because the family was known to be devout and might make their way to a Kingdom Hall. Well, let them argue that all they want. The hospital knew exactly where they were going and why. We were told that they were Jehovah's Witnesses to provoke one reaction - which it duly did.
[ Jehova's Witnesses alledgedly refuse blood transfusions and other medical treatment ]

(...)

The hospital knew very well that the family knew how to operate the feeding machine that has been at the centre of the hunt. The hospital knew very well where the family were heading - the Czech clinic had sent it papers last month, seeking medical background so that it could take over Ashya's care. The hospital knew that Brett King had a property business based in Malaga. There was no mystery here.

There was certainly a concern about Ashya's well-being, but why parade the Jehovah's Witness red herring when there was much more useful information that could have been released?
In the absence of that information, the papers went hard on the religion angle, albeit generally with the caveat "their motive is unclear..." - when, as we now know, it was clear right from the start.

PARENTS REQUEST SPANISH CITIZENSHIP FOR ASHYA

According to the Spanish channel RTV.es Canal 24 the parents claim that they still have custody of their son Ashya.

They request that their son be given the Spanish nationality, to which he has a right because he was born there.

My understanding is that, in this particular situation, one of Ashya's parents had to have at least been born in Spain (regardless of the parent's current citizenship) for him to have the right to natural citizenship. Is that correct?

Given that he's habitually resident in the UK, I can't see that that would make much difference.

Possibly, it would make it a bit more difficult and time-consuming for the UK to make him a ward of the court, and then could also play a role in his health care options too maybe. I don't know? It will be interesting to read up on citizenships (though I may not make it any further than what wiki has to offer) and hear what more comes of this.

A VIDEO BLOGGER COMES OF AGE

#BBCtrending:
Ashya King brother's YouTube savvy:

http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-29053450?ocid=socialflow_twitter

Naveed King was a video blogger posting antics with his friends on YouTube, like many other 20-year olds.

But after his little brother Ashya fell ill and was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and his family fled to seek treatment abroad, his YouTube channel became a highly effective one-man PR operation giving their side of the story.

Thank you for finding this article, and addressing the media's role in this debacle, especially the religious aspect of their initial coverage. Whether the hospital released the fact that Ashya's parents are Jehovah's Witnesses, or if the press was able to glean this from Naveed and Danny's FB pages, it was clearly meant to be inflammatory. Regardless of one's beliefs, the media's tendency to stir the pot and incite the public, should concern anyone who wants to understand an issue clearly. (And to be fair, the same thing should be a concern with social media campaigns and petitions. As has been pointed out, we don't have all the facts. IMO I don't think Brett King ever realized or intended that his YouTube video would create the intense reaction against the government that it did.)

The way the press flip flops, it's clear that their main purpose is to play on readers' emotions.

Another quote from the article you linked http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/conte...tioning-establishment-outset-ashya-king-story:

How much do most of us know about the Jehovah's Witnesses' view on medical treatment? That they refuse blood transfusions. But this little boy had had surgery. The Witnesses helped with this statement:

There is absolutely no indication that their decision is in any way motivated by any religious convictions. Jehovah's Witnesses are encouraged to seek the best medical treatment for themselves and their children.
BBM

Here is a clear and informative article on the subject from JW.org, the official website of Jehovah's Witnesses. It dispels myths that people believe about Jehovah's Witnesses and medical treatment. It's too bad the media didn't do simple research and go to the source.

http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/jehovahs-witnesses-why-no-blood-transfusions/

At this point, my hope is that Ashya will get whatever treatment will be in his best interests, and that he and his family will recover from being separated from his parents while they endured a totally unnecessary imprisonment.

ASHYA WILL BE TREATED IN A CLINIC IN NAVARRA, SPAIN

Telecinco.es reports, 05.09.14 | 11:47h :
http://www.telecinco.es/elprogramad...hospital-privado-de-navarra_0_1855350072.html

video with interview with family lawyer

Translation:

Two days after their release, Ashya parents have decided that the little boy will stay in Spain and will be treated in a private hospital in Navarra. "They are happy with the treatment being proposed," said Juan Isidro Fernandez, lawyer of the King family.

Ashya King remains stable and admitted to the Hospital of Malaga. His parents are staying with him since their release last Tuesday and will not return to the UK to testify at the hearing which will take place next week.

As confirmed by his attorney, the child's parents will declare by videoconference at the hearing which will decide whether the suspension of parental authority to parents will be withdrawn. "Guardianship of the child is not lost, there is a guarantor but there was no court order that they might have lost their parental rights (*) and they could take him with them. Moreover, the baby was born in Malaga, in Marbella," said the lawyer, who has insisted that child's life was never jeopardized. "He left perfectly well and entered perfectly well. We are going to explain what we are going to do."

Ashya will be treated in a private hospital in Navarra

Ten days after the child was transferred without the consent of doctors to Spain, Ashya parents have decided that little boy remains in Spain and will be treated in a hospital in Navarra. "The destination is a private clinic in Navarra. They're very happy with doctors that they have contacted with the treatment proposed and the results of that treatment."

(*) In the video, the lawyer says: There is a court order in England, but there is no court order in Spain. It is not easy to take away parental rights, and moreover, Ashya is Spanish.

CLINICA UNIVERSIDAD DE NAVARRA IS ONE OF SPAIN'S LEADING ONCOLOGY CENTRES

Daily Mail reports:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-Court-permission-despite-need-treatment.html

(...) the couple's lawyer is insisting that the High Court does not have the right to make decisions about Ashya's future while he is out of the UK.

Juan Isidro Fernandez Diaz claims Ashya's parents still have custody over their son - and that they have a 'private jet virtually ready' to take Ashya out of hospital in Malaga for treatment elsewhere.

He said Mr and Mrs King are keen to transfer their son to a hospital called Clinica Universidad de Navarra, one of Spain's leading oncology centres, which translates as Navarra University Clinic.

He said: 'We've got a private jet virtually ready to take Ashya out of hospital. Everything is almost in place should we want to move him.

'The parents have committed no crime and they're the ones with Ashya's custody whatever the High Court says.'
