Computer generated image of a man who fell from the 28th floor of a London hotel Credit: Met Police

His body was found on a fourth floor roof and his death was treated as non-suspicious, but police have still been unable to find his friends or family.
The man was found dead at the London Hilton on Park Lane, west London, on March 20 2014.

He was described as black and aged between 40 and 50, had a medium build and cropped black hair.
A check of the man's Oyster card - which was not registered with Transport for London - revealed that he regularly travelled around the south London area, specifically Norwood, Crystal Palace and Streatham.

At the time of his death, he was wearing a black Lonsdale fleece jacket, a white shirt with light pink and blue large checks, a white vest, grey suit trousers with a black belt, grey socks and black loafers.

Park Lane street is in very central London and very well known for 5 star hotels and other exclusive places right next to Hyde Park (famous London park).

On 28th floor of Hilton Hotel where John Doe fall/jump from is Michelin-starred restaurant/bar called Galvin at Windows. I am surprised to read, as I was not aware, that general manager of restaurant is famous personality known on UK TV for hosting currently First Dates, Fred Sirieix, originally from France.

Restaurant also featured on UK Apprentice in 2012.

Is there a NAMUS type database in the UK?

That's a pretty nice area of London. Is it believed that he was a guest a the hotel? Under a fake name? Or no?

No, at least not public one. Police have opened this UIDs website for public about 2 years ago, not sure though if it does list all the cases.

No, there is no mention anywhere that John Doe stayed as a guest in hotel. As fall was from 28th floor, where is restaurant/bar, he might have had food or some drinks there prior. Hotel restaurants and bars are open to public in most if not all London hotels. This being Michellin star restaurant and probably quite pricey due to that and location, it would have been probably quite busy.

From his London travel card (oyster card) they have established that he frequented South London. Hotel is at Central West London, easy reach from everywhere.

I would say that's unlikely. His Oyster card showed a pattern of travel around areas of south London that are definitely not places the wealthy have much to do with. Besides, if he was actively travelling around London he was probably living in the city so would be unlikely to need to stay in hotels in the West End.

His ethnicity is given as "black" and "Afro-Caribbean". It would be useful to know whether he was of West Indian or African origin because that would help understand his background. People of Caribbean or West Indian origin are almost invariably legally settled in the UK (most are 3rd generation UK citizens), whereas a lot (not all by any means but a lot) of Africans are illegal immigrants. If he was an illegal immigrant it might explain why nobody has come forward to claim or identify him.

Until recent years, employment checks on possible illegal immigrants were fairly casual and many illegal immigrants were able to gain menial/below stairs employment in the hotel, catering and hospitality industries. There have also been instances where illegals employed in hotels were found to be living in remote areas of the basements of the hotels they were working at.

Employment checks have now been massively tightened up and employers found to be employing those not entitled to live and work in the UK face huge fines.

Thanks, Al Ka!

Seems as if this is quite open ended given the area.
