'Blue's pals said he had a passion for flashy timepieces, often seeking out the "sparkliest" watches he could find. He was recently pictured on social media wearing a Datejust 36mm oystersteel and gold Rolex, valued at £12,250.'

''A suspected murderer who stabbed a young father to death in front of his partner in Knightsbridge fled the country on fake documents within hours after a 'targeted attack', it has been claimed.

Blue Stevens, 24, was knifed in broad daylight outside the £1,650-a-night 5-star Park Tower Hotel and Casino, which is directly across the road from the Harvey Nichols department store in central London, on July 9.''

Detectives are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry, including whether the murder was a botched attempted watch robbery as Blue was wearing a gold timepiece when he was attacked.''

I had not heard of this case. That is horrific. So police know who is responsible, but he fled the county. Will they disclose who he is and where he fled?

Luxury watch thefts have been on the decline in London in the past couple of years since the Met started a programme of sting operations which has taken many of the robbery gangs off the streets. There has also been a public awareness campaign encouraging owners to be more aware of their surroundings and to avoid ostentatiously flashing their watches around.

There have been cases of victims being threatened with knives or struck with mopeds in the course of robberies but murder is pretty rare, especially for a watch that is a fairly basic model for the brand.

I wonder if this guy was targeted not for his watch but because he was involved in stuff that has yet to come out. The fact that his killer fled the country within hours on a forged passport raises the question of a targeted hit.
