UK - Body of baby girl found in Leeds pub toilet, Three Horseshoes pub in Oulton, near Rothwell, West Yorkshire, 28 Jan 2024

I imagine she was in acute mental distress. I don't think the normal reaction if you started giving birth in a toilet would be to not shout for help. If she'd been there with other presumably she was visibly pregnant and would have been gone a significant amount of time. I'm wondering if she was a teen who had hidden the pregnancy.

.... At the very least, to find the mother and offer her support
Let's not kid ourselves. The media reported on this story with the hope that there would be foul play involved so they could star another circus like the Constance Marten story.

Which is why it had to be investigated, and making it public knowledge is part of that investigation. Personally i don't think parents should be allowed to kill their babies but maybe that's just me.

Giving birth in a pub toilet tells me one thing -- the young woman didn't know she was about to give birth.

Oddly enough, there have been cases of females giving birth who didn't even know they were pregnant. Who knows what the situation was here, but someone who goes into labor and plans to get rid of the baby likely wouldn't choose a public spot to do so.

I'm guessing the mother delivered the baby and probably didn't know what she should do to help it start breathing.

But, who knows?

I don’t think she’s given birth in the toilet, I think it’s more likely the birth has been elsewhere and then baby left in the cubicle.
It would be highly unusual for someone to give birth in toilets of what seemed like a busy pub without anyone noticing. MOO.

They have explicitly stated they believe she delivered in the cubicle. There must be evidence for them to be so sure

I think the situation would be worse to me if she'd not given birth there and just decided that was a place to leave her.

But either way, I can't imagine being in that person's place, and having no one you could trust. It must have been an awful shock that the baby was stillborn even if she was not wanted

'At a press conference in Leeds city centre on Monday, DCI James Entwistle, from West Yorkshire police’s homicide and major inquiry team, said the information he had pointed to the baby being stillborn and having been born in the toilet cubicle.'

Women or girls who are hiding their pregnancy sometimes do give birth in public bathrooms, because they feel they have to hide it from whomever they live with. And that's a tragedy.

It's very kind that she is being given the benefit of the doubt, which usually doesn't happen in abandoned baby cases, IMO.
