The person who was the main suspect in this case Mohammed Shabir has died whilst awaiting trial.
He is the one who was severely injured at the scene and in a coma for months before recovering just enough to attend the initial hearing.

I hope he suffered right up to his final breath and whilst his death doesn't bring closure for the families of the deceased lady and her children, I hope they find some peace from this information.

IMO JMO of course

Sharaz Ali is the one who was injured and in a coma until recently. He is not the one who has died in prison (Mohammed Shabir).

After following the updates from court I've been trying all evening to think of something meaningful to say about this case. And I can't! It's just such a shocking totally senseless loss of life.

Antonia Gawith's police interviews being played in court, then she's giving evidence later from the witness box. it's absolutely horrifying what she had to go through.

I think Sharaz Ali's defence will have a serious uphill battle trying to convince the jury that this is what happened (BBM):

(AG= Antonia Gawith, witness. MN= Mohammed Nawaz KC, Sharaz Ali's barrister)

12:12pm
AG agrees it was being pulled to and from him pulling it his way and her pulling it her way

MN: Was that what caused the petrol to come out of it

AG: No

MN: He poured it out

AG: Yes

MN saying he doesn't accept he poured it, that it was the tussle that caused it

AG: He was pouring petrol when he walked in the door and he threw it onto me and that's when I tried to stop him pouring it everywhere

Calum Sunderland has just done a Connie and Magna and rage-quit in the middle of cross examination!

11:11am

The judge intervened and said, "you've started your evidence and it's important the jury hear" but was cut off by Sunderland.

He said: "It's already made out like I've murdered four people for some crack, so I'm done, I can't do it."

The judge then explained it's to Sunderland's advantage to answer the questions before asking if he needed a break.

Sunderland responded: "I just can't do it."

The judge then called a break and we heard some legal discussion about the matter.

My reactions to these reports:
🤬🤮

RIP to innocent victims,
mostly children 😢
murdered in the most horrific way
at their own home
where they should have been the safest.

So the latest escapades in the life of Calum Sunderland. He was persuaded back into the witness box, only to walk out again but be coaxed back into the witness box. This chain of events repeated a few times until finally, he had enough:

2:36pm
CS back in the dock

"End of the day, I know what happened that night, so be it, f*** it."

"I want to go back to prison."

[...]
3:01pm
J: Now the jury are back I just wanted them to know what the position, you've said you're not going to go back in the witness box and answer anymore questions, is that right

J says you understand the jury can draw an inference from his refusing to carry on

J: If you decide not to attend the trial, you understand it can go on without you, you're aware of that

Closing arguments begin on Friday morning
