A Mugging gone wrong??

Could be though I think it's more likely to be a sexually motivated crime, if a crime has taken place.

ETA due to where the body was found, I think a mugger would have left it where the mugging happened. Also a possibly inebriated woman, in town, near a nightclub on her own at night I think would be more at risk of sexual attacks than muggings.

They are high but it's hard to believe she accidentally fell over those railings if that's where they state she went in to the small river

In some pics I did think Caroline had a look of Claudia Lawrence about her, and Claudia went missing only 60 miles away but she doesn't look much like her on the pic from the night she went missing.

The fact that the crime scene/ cordon tape has been removed already makes it seem less ominous?

.....still can't believe people think it strange the route she took (if an accident), you can end up anywhere if drunk...and also fall asleep on the spot if you stop and rest.....and you would still likely remember the night up until you passed out.

I find it easy to believe she took a wrong turn and ended up lost but then maybe thats' because I'm hopeless at directions myself. It's the ending up in a stream accessed over railings I find hard to imagine her doing herself.

I also get lost easily, especially if im drunk[emoji79] as im hopeless with directions myself. Some people also like to go on random walks & adventures when they've had a drink as well, or to sober themselves up a bit. Hard to say definitively what someone would do though, as people behave & think differently to what others would when drunk. We don't even know if she was intoxicated yet though do we?

If that is an area people usually walk past everyday I find abit odd that Caroline was only discovered in the early hours of this morning which would have just been over 48 hours since she was last seen

Another life taken too soon. Another young lady with all her future ahead, whose dreams and projects were cut short either by accident or crime

So many cases of deaths after leaving night clubs alone! Is it so difficult for these so called FRIENDS to be assured that their pals don't leave alone??!! Mainly girls, but also boys! How many just lost their lives in such a way? I can recall many! Even if they are leaving sobber it is dangerous as it seems there are vultures always waiting for a pray. If drunk, even worse!

I wish all the youngsters had as first worry when going together for a night out, also to leave together too or at least to make arrangements to deliver their friends home safe!

How many times will this happen again, how many more lives wasted like this?

Absolutely spot on! ....i know someone who when drunk climbed over a six foot high fence into a construction site.....climbed up a SIXTY foot high 'T' crane, shimmed out to the end of the arm.....just to have a poop off the end as he thought it was 'a laugh'....he got caught,but tresspassing charges weren't pressed since they couldn't believe he didn't kill himself. In a professional training situation later with harnesses etc...he didn't want to go up!

So as Natalie said......when drunk people can do ANYTHING...getting lost is the very least of them

*Not saying is was deffo an accident...but alcohol explains an awful lot....alot of the time.

God I've just had a flashback to me and a friend at 16, drunk trying to climb over a 10ft high chain link fence to get in the back way of a nightclub when we were refused entry.We got half way up before we looked down and saw two bouncers just looking up at us, shaking their heads.:iamashamed::iamashamed::iamashamed:

But we, like your friend were climbing with an aim in mind...for us it was to get in the club and for your mate to do something for a laugh. With Caroline I can't see any reason she'd want to climb over railings at that spot, it doesn't lead to anywhere... unless she was running from somebody and didn't realise the drop the other side.

Almost embarrassed to say I've never been that drunk, but don't you sober up if you walk? Wouldn't the alcohol wear off that way?

Caroline may well have been quite sober, but even a glass or two of wine can have a strong effect on someone not used to it.

What are the chances, quite drunk (and I doubt if she was) that someone would accidently fall into that river at that point?

True, it's possible... she gets lost, stops, leans on the railings whilst checking her phone, accidentally drops it over the railings and slips and injures herself whilst attempting to retrieve it.

South Yorkshire police are signing off Twitter now until tomorrow morning. So we'll have to follow their website or other sources for the update. (If there is infact going to be one tonight!)

I agree because of the railings being high.

You sometimes hear of people going for a swim/jumping in to rivers acting daft when alcohol is involved, or going to a nearby river to relieve themselves & accidentally slipping, falling in & then drowning.. I really don't think this is the case here though! I guess we'll soon find out though. All jmo.

I think she has been picked up in a car. Could even be someone she knew, or a 'false' minicab.

All IMO - but it reads as if she was a sensible girl and I fear someone has taken advantage of a young woman on her own late at night with the most dire consequences.
