Found Deceased UK - Caroline Everest, 18, Sheffield, 22 Nov 2015

The other thing is that during the time with this guy, he and Caroline were headed west, away from her halls. Then, at the point where LE says they 'parted company' she starts heading toward the main road...I don't think it looks like a good place to get a taxi at 3.30 am but I think it's where you might head if you wanted to run away from someone and flag down a passing car to call the police. Waitrose was probably closed, Wetherspoons was closed...there's a Shell (or similar) petrol station on the other side of that main road that should be open 24/7, so that might be a target for someone in trouble?

Also, Napier Road runs all the way down to the corner of the cemetery. I presume the cemetery has locked gates at night? If that was the point where Caroline and the man 'parted ways' that would have her heading back toward town by going toward Summerfield Rd/St and the main road.

Did the report say whether this guy had a car? Was she getting out of a car when they parted?

Or he could've been hanging around outside the club just waiting for an opportunity?

Possibly.........but the fact that they went off somewhere together, says to me that this is someone she knew - even if only in a casual way.

From all that her friends have said, Caroline was very sensible and the one who always looked out for everyone else. So am not sure she would just hook up with an unknown male.

Re the fact that a man has been arrested so quickly - it could be that he's already known to police/dna sample on file? Or that he was recognised from the cctv ... could be a club regular, member of staff, someone already known to Caroline - another student?

He could have handed himself in. Thinking that there wouldn't be much evidence of murder or rape on cctv or her body due to the water.

"yeah I was with her but everything was ok. She walked off by herself and told me to leave her alone. I wish I hadn't blah blah blah blaha"

ETA: he did have consensual sex with her and had nothing to hide and pointed the police in the direction to where they left one another. Carrie died accidently by falling in or threw herself in because she was ashamed of her behavior.

I got this from BBC news, but from this I can't understand how far it would be from the Devonshire pub to the spot on Napier Street where they parted.

Could someone give me an idea of the distance, because from this map it seems a long way.? TIA

Not quite 3/4 of a mile walking

I don't know if this might help, it's a flat street map starting at the Devonshire Cat, passing the Corporation and then going to the bridge at Summerfield St via Napier St

It says it's about 1 mile/16 minute walk.

Thank you so much for that Skibs & Amonet. I have tried following maps, but got lost. Now from your map above I can see Caroline crossed

the dual carriageway ! I find that very surprising. Is there an underpass there? Horrid places underpasses imo.

I have to completely disagree with your theory and I feel like it verges on victim shaming.

If it was someone who worked at Corporation, he would be on cctv leaving just after her and easily recognisable as the same person she was with a minute later at the Devonshire Cat.

Thanks for this, it's hard to make out the little white square markers, but it looks to me that they were caught on camera at the eastern end of Napier Street (nearest Waitrose).

Also, Amonet, thanks for linking the news report re two rapes in October http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/local...over-rapes-in-sheffield-city-centre-1-7521010. I had just been reading it. I am not surprised the local student population seem to be up in arms about safety, hence the rape alarms being given out. I have also seen an article about a woman being attacked in one of the underpasses under the roundabout near where Caroline was found.

I'd leave it at disagreeing. There's nothing shaming about putting up a humanly plausible theory IMO.

I was wondering about Caroline leaving the club alone and this man starting up a conversation with her and as she walks away he walks along with her - whether she likes it or not?

I know this has bee touched upon already but to use the phrase "parted company" when describing Caroline and the man, to me at least implies it was an amicable end to a meeting

Well IMO it's not very plausible and verges on victim shaming and also isn't very plausible.

How could someone "throw themselves in" AND die but have no immediate cause of death? Did she die of shame from the drunken consensual sex?

I was adding another side of the coin not victim shaming. Giving an alternative example as to how he was located so quickly and how she came to be in the Brook.

I also gave another theory, which you seem to have over looked. I didn't say either where likely just alternative explanations.

He has been arrested on suspicion of rape and we have very few fact including an inclusive postmortem.

I think the same. Now I understand she had to traverse the underpass I fear that could well be where she met an attacker. Grim places underpasses even in the daytime, but at 4 am quite risky imo.

I am wondering if she kind of knew him and he offered her a lift:

They were together outside the Dev Cat, which would have been closed. There is not much else round there, and not that many places to go at 3am. So, why did she walk towards Dev Cat, it's the wrong direction for both her flat and the area she was found. Did he offer her a lift? I'd have expected a whole lot more CCTV if they walked from the club to Napier Street, maybe there is some and we've not been shown. But they could have been anywhere in a car in the 54 minutes we don't know about.

cause of death would be the same if she jumped off the bridge or if someone threw her in.
