I don't think so, maybe a local knows more than me.

I have to say, I find it hard to believe that...given the circumstances. What I mean is, why didn't they ?

Hypothetically speaking, could CL have had an argument with someone at 6.05 ran down that slip road which leads to the university, he runs after her, she drops her bag or he catches her a tussle ensues and the bag falls to the ground. He kills her (don't know his motive) possibly in a fit of rage, he hadn't planned for this, there's a bit of scrubby land with tree cover right where he is...could Claudia be right there ? Or am I being ridiculous ?

Somehow that scenario rings true, imo.

ellie, my storyline, as it may be:

On the bridge CL peeved jumped out of the burgundy car (without her backpack, woman on CCTV has no backpack), the driver went to her, he smoked with his left hand and talked seriously. Then CL got again back in the car and was driven to the University area. In the vehicle further disputes (I think, reason: jealousy, perhaps because of the recently surprising visit of another man/separation).
Finally, CL angrily stormed out of the vehicle, again without her backpack (the woman on the CCTV again has no backpack with her; passenger door still open). The man ran after her to the other side of the street. There they fought verbally (CCTV), now threatening and without a cigarette. At a certain point, CL wanted to get her backpack from the vehicle and was then forced by the driver into the Combi. The man took her to the murder scene, perhaps near to the area. The dispute escalated and the murder occurred.

The killer had to get rid of the backpack and hid it in the vicinity of the university.

Question: why had the burgundy vehicle not been searched by police? I haven't read about.

Could it be, CL had on the 18. ended her relationship with the man who had been in a seriously relationship with another woman and had put his belongings into a bag. CL put the bag out in front of her back door and texted him to pick the bag up without seeing her/speaking to her. (The man on CCTV returned with a bag and seemingly didn't want to be recognized by another passenger.)
Next morning he again went to her back door only for very short time. Perhaps he hoped to see something (another man in her home) or he wanted to look, whether her lights were on or not. Then he saw her lights off and drove in the direction of her way to University. - Only my thoughts!!!

Oh, wait: If she had texted him, the police would have had known .............. :scared:

Just one point, there was no CCTV recordings of CL on the morning of the 19th, the re-enactments were done following witness sightings.

Thank you, ellie, I didn't think of that. Yes, as you now say it .... :blushing:

Some very good scenarios as to how the bag could have been left on the grass at Walmgate stray. I'm starting to wonder if it was a plant, to lead away from Claudia's house and surrounding area. I'm thinking there was an argument on the way to work and the bag was returned without Claudia, to make the Police think she was attacked by a stranger. Which could imply he could be connected to her easily.

I think it would be worth the while of the local police having a look along that footpath to see if there are any patches of scrub or overgrown areas with trees within easy reach of the of the path..worth a reccy anyway. (Not necessarily a full blown search). Although of course it would have better 6 years ago, when any disturbed earth, brambles etc would have been easier to spot.

Perish the thought, but how large are the ovens that Claudia worked with at the university?

Maybe not that big.

Edited to add - Imo it has to be a lot hotter than a standard oven, I would think a standard oven would have to be on for 2 or 3 days.

''Detective Superintendent Ray Galloway, speaking on the second anniversary of Miss Lawrence's disappearance, said he could have 'potentially' spoken to her killer''

My guess is he has spoken to her killer.

I agree, I think he has most definately spoken to her killer, and probably more than once.

Firstly sorry for being MIA the past few days and secondly I couldn't agree more with this post. In an earlier post of mine where I pointed out 2 locations that I felt could be suspect areas, the path besides walmgate stray was one of them. It's just... creepy. A lot of students walk along there as it is a short cut if walking home/into town but I would personally never walk it alone. When I was a kid we used to sledge on walmgate stray, the very top of it where it meets the path is an incline, it's surrounded by overgrown bushes and trees. If you wanted to plant evidence, it is most definitely an area any local would know as a 'good spot' if there were, like Claudia had, a connection to the Uni

Yeah it is creepy, I looked at the photos of it, plenty of undergrowth/trees/bushes. Arm yourself with a dog maybe and you wouldn't look out of place in daylight hours lurking about.
I'm still attracted to the allotments, can't shake that off yet (if somebody has dug a patch it wouldn't take much to continue digging and level it afterwards) I wonder if there was any reports of garden tools being 'messed with' but not stolen.
The fact that there was a bag right where you'd expect to find it but no person Mmmm. A stranger would just rape or murder and leave the body in situ imo. I think she went part way to work and something happened and the bag was dropped later, much further from where she had got to en route to work. I wonder if the attacker had connections to some place on her route and needed to push the enquiries much further down and away, Idk.

Glad you're back Skibaboo :)

This is a logical scenario. Why did she need to have texted him if she visited him on foot after work on Wed 18th? A couple of pages back, it was suggested he may not have been a texter or even had a mobile. Thanks.

  • #738
I think she visited somebody after work, he was out and didn't have a mobile. She was only gone 15 mins so, imo, no time for an argument or much else. She could have left him a note but I doubt it. He could have contacted her later that day as we have between 3pm and 8pm unaccounted for. Now, we do know she contacted the Cyprus guy saying she would like a holiday but it was too expensive to fly until Sept. I wondered if she had the Cyprus thing in her head for a while, what if she was thinking of asking the guy she visited for the flight money? I know her parents would have given her the fare but sometimes we don't like to ask the closest folk to help.

Yes, what did she do between 3pm and 8pm?

  • #739
I wonder how she checked the price of Cyprus flights if she didn't use a computer as her father has stated? Would her phone have had internet in 2009? Did she use a computer at the university?

Probably just a coincidence but regarding the white astra van seen parked near her home on the Wednesday evening:

http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/13156

There is a white astra van parked at the rear of her property, at the end of Heworth Place on googlemaps.
