Mmmm. Nor**gat* Vehicle hire written on the side.

Branches all over but I can't see a York branch.

I wonder how she checked the price of Cyprus flights if she didn't use a computer as her father has stated? Would her phone have had internet in 2009? Did she use a computer at the university?

I'll take a guess she rang the local travel agent.

I'd be pretty annoyed if somebody asked me for the flight money then I had reason to believe I was being deceived. Just a thought.

If the van would be a hired vehicle (without a known license plate), no wonder there are no infos. "Nort*gat* certainly owns a whole armada of white vans. The driver of the hired vehicle (IF) may have reasons not to report.

Wakefield (25.3 miles)
Leeds (27.1 miles)
Scunthorpe (30.7 miles)
Hull (32.0 miles)
Doncaster (32.4 miles)

Van hire locations near Heworth.

What do I need to bring when I collect the van?

To hire a van from our Wakefield site you must bring the following items for each driver, (this is for insurance purposes and we can not hire a van to anyone who does not have the correct identification):

A valid driving licence (both sections if you have a new photocard licence).
Photographic identification such as a passport.
Valid credit/debit card.
Valid credit/debit card for us to take a £250 deposit.
A printed copy of the Booking Voucher.
Two utility bills with the same address as your licence.

What, if a "close friend" of Claudia had hired a van? One of the companies would have his data.

I totally agree FromGermany, it's lost in a sea of white Astra vans. The one with the logo might now be an update vehicle. It may not even be rented by the same person.

Shortly before Claudia vanished Robbie and three other friends came to the UK to pick up four vans, which they drove to Italy before putting them on ships for the sea trip to Cyprus.

Robbie said: ”When the police came over they asked me all about the trip. I said to them how could Claudia have got to the island without her passport, which was found in her home in York, and one of them jokingly said ‘in the back of your van’.

Yeah, it looks like it's vans all the way.

Sorry I was referring to the vehicle parked at the back of her house/end of Heworth Place. Don't want to copy it here for privacy reasons. As you say, white vans are abundant but thought it was a coincidence.

If Claudia had saved her phone details (IMEI number) could the Police use that to see if it's had another sim put into it? I know they can deactivate it using the imei but could they tell if it was being used with a new sim?

May have been covered as I have been mia past couple of days but north gate also deal with company hire. At my workplace when one of our vehicles is in for repair/mot etc we are given a north gate replacement

'North Yorkshire Police said the 47-year-old man had been released from his bail conditions after he provided information to detectives which has progressed the investigation.'

His release from bail is very close to the recent arrest/bail of the 'local 59 y. old man'. Was there an Acomb connection between the recently arrested male and CL which the pub landlord was withholding - hence perverting course of justice charge? I do feel NYP are edging closer. If only people would stop lying.

I've a nasty feeling now, that they won't ever find Claudia's remains. In fact I'd be surprised if there are any left to find. :(

I hope that they will find out how and why she was killed, and bring the killer(s) to justice. It sounds like they are getting closer all the time.

BRUNSWICK STATION
ORIGINAL RAILWAY LINE & "HARROGATE" TUNNEL

..............................
The Lodge mentioned above is shown on the next map as being on the corner of Leeds Rd and South Drive; in the 1940/50s this location was occupied by a very nice bakery shop. The Harrogate Advertiser" says, in an article about a "Mystery of inter-war period picture", that:

"Before the shops were built between South Drive and Alderson Road, the site was occupied by a building known as the "Lodge", of which no photographs are known to have survived. According to some notes I read recently, one of the men who worked in about 1922 on the demolition of the Lodge, claimed that much of the building had contained medieval materials, including a timber frame.
...........................

We have the railway bridge (viaduct) and a bakery .... No idea, whether the area comes into question or not. Only my thoughts; they maybe misguided, sorry.

I think she visited somebody after work, he was out and didn't have a mobile. She was only gone 15 mins so, imo, no time for an argument or much else. She could have left him a note but I doubt it. He could have contacted her later that day as we have between 3pm and 8pm unaccounted for. Now, we do know she contacted the Cyprus guy saying she would like a holiday but it was too expensive to fly until Sept. I wondered if she had the Cyprus thing in her head for a while, what if she was thinking of asking the guy she visited for the flight money? I know her parents would have given her the fare but sometimes we don't like to ask the closest folk to help.

Yes, what did she do between 3pm and 8pm?

I wouldn't normally quote myself but when I was speculating where Claudia had gone for approx 15mins I hadn't looked where the house on O*****d drive was on Google maps in comparison to Claudia's home. I just looked and its a walk of 9mins each way, walking in the direction she was last seen returning that afternoon.

Yes indeed, I picked up on this. If you put in the precise addresses, it is an 8 min. journey on foot. The only cctv camera on that route appears to be at Costcutters and she could have slipped outside its range quite easily as it points down at the store's entrance. If she did visit that address, one can only wonder why she would risk such a venture and what the possible impact might be of being 'seen' there? It certainly had me thinking about whether RC may turn out to have been a bit of a red herring.

I always got the impression that she had been seen on the other side of her house by her friend. Am I wrong? Must have seen it on the reconstruction or something. If that's incorrect and she was seen to the pub side of her house, couldn't she just have been in the pub for 15 mins?

EDIT I am wrong, see post below

I think a trip to the pub would have been mentioned since the pub manager seemed to be very involved in the early days and there would surely have regulars inside who would have witnessed it? Here it is on the NYP site. It says 3.05pm at the junction of EP/HR and I think she waved to a mother who was picking up her child from the school on H Rd.
