Returning to the hair dye. As has been mentioned up thread, home hair dye, once activated, is very time specific.
You would not mix the ingredients unless you were going to use them straight away and you also wouldn't leave them around afterwards. You'd bin them immediately.
Also this is not the type of activity that you would do before work. More likely in the evening or at weekends as it would likely take about an hour and a half.

What was Claudia's original connection to Cyprus?
Did she have one that was independent of the Nags Head or neighbour connections?

One ex-boyfriend, insurance broker Dan Whitehand, said he feared she met her killer while they holidayed in Cyprus.

Detectives insist that Mr Sammons, a labourer who lives in Paphos, is not a suspect.
He and Miss Lawrence were friends for years and used to drink together at the Nag's Head pub in York before he moved to Cyprus last year.

I think, one of the two men (1 x ex-lover, 1 x friend) were the reason to come to Cyprus.

"Former boyfriend D W has said the answer to the mystery lies in Cyprus and has claimed she had many male friends on the island.

However, our inquiries show that Claudia only knew a few men, was not promiscuous and was casually thinking of moving to the island to lead a quieter life.

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Express, bar owner Mr Campbell said: “These claims that she had up to ten lovers here are absolutely untrue.

“I knew her very well and she did not have any. She was a decent, courteous and polite young woman who just wanted to relax and have a laugh.

“She sunbathed on the beach during the day and at night she let her hair down a bit. She was not seeing a different man every night.”

I find that verrry mysterious that the two men are so disunited in their statement. Something is wrong, IMO.

I thought the same when I read the article, but more than likely poor reporting - maybe that isn't exactly what was said by the ex-boyfriend. The apparent contradiction certainly makes the article more sound more sensational ... which after all sells papers. Having lots of male friends doesn't mean they were lovers.

I have followed this case casually since the beginning. Something that has bothered me from the start is that Claudia appeared to be living above her means. She was described as a "chef" but, from what I can tell, she was a food preparer who worked different shifts in a University canteen. I am not familiar with pay grades in the UK but I seriously doubt her salary at such a job would fall into the Middle Class range. It certainly wouldn't in the US.

Yet she owned a car, took regular holidays to Cyprus and, most significantly, she owned a semi-detached house near the city center. There seemed to be more going on than meets the eye.

True, I don't live in the UK and I might be totally off base. Perhaps her parents have been helping her out or she has received an inheritance. Otherwise, I suspect there is a connection between unexplained income and her disappearance.

Claudia owns a small terraced house in working class area of York. Like the majority of property 'owners' she probably bought it by taking out a mortgage loan from a bank or building society.

Claudia's car is an old Vauxhall Corsa which at the time of her disappearance had broken down and was at a garage being repaired.

Cyprus is a popular holiday destination for people in the UK, flights can be very cheap if booked with a budget airline well in advance. It would not be an expensive place to find accommodation. Food and drink would also be very cheap.

The term Chef is a catch all job title that is often used by just about anyone working in a kitchen who is involved in the preparation of food. Wages vary massively but a salary of £20k+ would be typical for that type of work in the York area.

None of which indicates that she was living beyond her means.

I fear Cyprus pal killed my Claudia

Ex Dan said: “Cyprus was Claudia’s second home. If she had a week off she would fly out there and she had no problem going on her own.

“She already knew a lot of bar and restaurant owners when we went there and she introduced me.

She was my girlfriend but it was obvious a lot of the men out there found her attractive.

“The worry has to be that someone she’s had a relationship with in Cyprus has come to Britain, met up with her and killed her.”

Dan said he might be the only one of Claudia’s boyfriends who was not married or attached.

Police have already said that the pretty blonde’s “complex” love life was a focus of their investigation.

And Dan added: “Claudia was desperate to be loved.”

I seem to recall Mr Whitehand was viewed as a suspect early on in the case. Although we know it is true that the police followed up the Cyprus connection, I think DW is trying hard to publicly separate himself from any responsibility by introducing other elements e.g. married men, male contacts in Cyprus and CLs alleged neediness. Not very gentlemanly imo.

The book "Gone":

One man from Cyprus had been in York (Heworth?) on the 18. and is known to police. At that time, when the book was written, police hadn't spoke personally to this man.

I wonder who it may be and what about him.

The book "Gone":

DW had the greatest concerns about an elderly man (today ca. 60 yo), who owns several bars in Cyprus.

" THE detective leading the investigation into the disappearance of Claudia Lawrence said he was satisfied that the image of the 35-year-old issued by his force was an accurate one.

Detective Superintendent Ray Galloway was responding to reports that the missing York chef dyed her hair brown shortly before she went missing exactly five weeks ago today.

The official photo of her issued by North Yorkshire Police appears to show her with a lighter-coloured style.

Claudia’s stylist, N B, of the Harry Nicholas salon, in Colliergate, told Sky News he coloured her hair using a darker dye than usual, three-and-a-half weeks before she disappeared.

But Det Supt Galloway said: “I am satisfied that the photographs being used in relation to the public appeal for sightings of Claudia Lawrence are accurate, within the context of the fact that she was known to regularly dye her hair."

Would it be this man:
Shortly before Claudia vanished Robbie and three other friends came to the UK to pick up four vans, which they drove to Italy before putting them on ships for the sea trip to Cyprus.

Robbie said: ”When the police came over they asked me all about the trip. I said to them how could Claudia have got to the island without her passport, which was found in her home in York, and one of them jokingly said ‘in the back of your van’.

“We picked up the vans in Glasgow and I would have driven past York, but I didn’t stop and see Claudia.

Tried finding the article Robin, but couldn't find it. Anyway, came across this article/interview with Claudia's mum, there was a couple of interesting points in it.......

"Joan was the last person to speak to Claudia. She phoned her daughter at around 8.30pm on the Wednesday to ask for the number of a local taxi firm for friends who were attending a wedding. They chatted about the television programme Location Location Location, which they were both watching.
Claudia was upstairs, with the TV on, as she prepared for bed."

Now that could explain why she never replied to her friend's text (she was asleep in bed)

"‘She worked extremely hard, saving all her money to get on to the property ladder. Even when she was ill, she’d drag herself into work because she was part of a team and didn’t want to let anyone down.’"

This is just to re-iterate that Claudia was not living beyond her means.

You just wouldn't put blonde dye over dark dyed hair, it would go orange.

'‘Claudia worked very hard. She had no time for all these so-called affairs. She was out of the door at 5.15am for her early shift. After work she was tending her horse and in bed by 9pm,’ says Joan. ‘She phoned me almost every day. She only ever went for a drink if she knew she wasn’t working early the next day.’

Does anyone know where her horse was kept please?

"Home was a spacious house in the Yorkshire market town of Malton complete with a paddock for Claudia’s beloved horse Cobweb"
