Judge's sentencing remarks will be on camera

Remarks are aired with a short delay when broadcasting live to prevent any breach of reporting restrictions or errors, with footage subject to usual reporting restrictions.

A reminder, you'll be able to watch the sentencing in a stream at the top of this live page when it begins.

I wonder if this will also include the defendant's likely breach of etiquette?

I've never heard a defendant commenting during a sentencing hearing, perhaps they fix it somehow so we can only hear what the judge is saying. I'm expecting him to pause to tell them off at some point.

I'll be so glad to never hear about these two again.
I hope the judge gives them the maximum sentence allowed under the guidelines.

I think we might have to wait a while until appeals have been dealt with !

Just think how many low income families are struggling to make do on even a fraction of that.

This case is all about the choices of two adults who didn't care about the welfare of their infant. Because their poverty was completely artificial.

It blows my mind, they literally could have employed a full time nanny a d housed them beautifully with that

Exactly. And if they had, social services would have deemed them compliant.

This whole thing was a petulant toddlerish 'nobody tells me what to do' series of actions. Which would be fine if the only people they were putting at risk were themselves. Adults get to make those kinds of choices. A child doesn't.

BBC live feed says it's been suspended for legal reasons. Any thoughts on what the reason may be? Disruption maybe?

ETA feed now back up!

I thought it was something to do with Gordon’s past offences?

no that usually happens if the judge needs to give graphic details or mention names of young people in open court who cannot be named publicly for legal reasons

Oh Boy!

I’ve followed this case from afar and I’m not sure I’ve ever posted in this thread.

They are disgusting. Their behaviour is appalling.

I hope they both get the max.

Gordon
18 years

14 years.
Two thirds in prison = 9.5 years.
Less remand time 2.5 years.
7 years total in prison
Out on licence for 4.5 years
Then 4 years extended licence sentence

Marten
14 years
Two thirds in prison 9.5 years
Less remand time 2.5 years
7 years total in prison
Then out on licence

Just edited again after reading more reports

only serving 2/3 of each sentence and then on licence

Did I hear that right??

While it's her daughter, I still cannot understand why Marten''s mother is protecting her and writing a glowing characterreference of support which clearly is not the truth.
If both are not kept in prison until her child bearing years are over Gordon will make sure she becomes pregnant again.

Even with 2/3 served it is longer than I thought they might get. I also think it will make appealing the sentences more difficult than if he had given them significantly longer ones.

I hope the time she serves will be long enough to see her through her fertile years!

Marten 14 years - two thirds only- then out on licence

No sentence could ever be long enough for what they did to that poor little mite.
