UK- Costessey, 4 People Found Dead In Home

So...
A member of the public called Police before 7a.m. hearing disturbance.
Police came shortly.
And the doors were closed because officers had to forcefully open them.

Father seemed to suffer from some issues.

That says it all :(

That is what I understand what happened according to reports.

Eastern Daily Press seems to have a good liveblog, with mostly information we already know, but some good pictures. The interview with Detective Burgess was worth watching just to hear things straight from the police's mouth, not filtered through a media outlet. I can't work out a way to embed the video, you'll have to go to the feed and scroll down a little to find it.

TRANSCRIPT FROM BRIEF PRESS CONFERENCE

19TH JANUARY

DCI
- I can give you some details, but you'll appreciate, not everthing's being made available at this time.

The male who was found at the address has been identified, a female, aged 36, and two young children who were both girls.

REPORTER - Do you know the ages of the young children?

DCI - At this stage I can't confirm that, sorry.

REPORTER - Local's have been reported to say they were primary school aged children, going to the local primary school - is that confirmed?

DCI - They're certainly young children.

REPORTER - What would you say about the status of your investigation at the moment? What are the lines of inquiry you're proceeding with?

DCI - It's really, really early on in the investigation, as I'm sure you will appreciate. At this time I've got considerable forensic inquiries going on at the address to assist us to establish exactly what did happen. We're speaking with neighbours, we're looking at local CCTV, just trying to establish, as best that we can, the biggest picture available. We also use information that's made available to us, so everything we can do to share as much information as possible is what we're trying to do.

REPORTER - Neighbours and residents have also spoken about a potential weapon being found in the local woodland area there, a knife - is that something that you can confirm?

DCI - Yes, I'm aware a weapon has found nearby. It's fair to say, at this stage, I don't believe it's connected, but you will appreciate I'm keeping a very open mind to that, and certainly not discounted it, but my view, at this time, would be that we don't believe that it's connected.

REPORTER - It's also fair to say that all of the occupants at that address knew each other, were family members..?

DCI - Yes, yes, we do believe that they're all family members at this time. 3 of the persons are believed to reside at the address and another one, not permanently.

REPORTER - What would you say to the local community this evening who are in real shock?

DCI - Be reassured we're doing a thorough investigation into this. I'm confident that this is an isolated incident, but as I say, it's very early on. I'm keeping an open mind, but be reassured, we're doing everything we can. When we know more information we will share it.

REPORTER - On that basis; is there any background you can give us about the people involved in this case, in terms of nationality or whether they were known to the police?

DCI - We have had previous contact at the address, but that was in relation to a missing person enquiry but nothing significant at this stage, but once again, it's very early on in the investigation and there's lots of information that I don't know yet but we're trying to find out.

REPORTER - What happens next? What will you and your team be doing? How many officers are working on this case? How seriously are you taking this, given how unusual it is?

DCI - We're treating it very serious. The joint major investigation team across Norfolk and Suffolf are at my service today. I'm obviously using teams from the Broadland Investigation Hub and anywhere else that we need. Local police officers are supporting with assisting of the scene. I have the ability to use what we need and we're well resourced to make sure that we get a right, proper and quick response to this.

* The father was the subject of the missing persons investigation last year. (Source is still the neighbours for this.)

* The area is still cordoned off with residents having to sign in and out.

* Local churches have opened their doors for the community to seek comfort from clergy and pray.

A referral has been made to the police watchdog today over the deaths of a family in Norfolk - after police failed to attend a 999 call from the address where four bodies were later found.

The bodies of Bartlomiej Kuczynski, 45, and his children were found inside the house in Costessey, near Norwich, alongside that of a 36-year-old woman, who has not been identified.

Norfolk Police confirmed they had received a call from the address at 6am in the morning but officers were not deployed until after a second call shortly before 7am.

A spokesman for the force said: 'Officers had been called to the address shortly before 7am after a member of the public called police to raise concerns for the welfare of people inside.

'Police arrived on scene at around 7.15am and forced entry to the address, finding the bodies of two young girls, a 45-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman.

The two little girls who are believed to have been killed by their father in a suspected murder and suicide were today described as “beautiful girls”.

The girls were identified locally as Jasmin Kuczynska, 12, and her seven-year-old sister who attended local schools and were often seen walking around.

Mr Kuczynski's Thai-born wife Nanthaka Kuczynska who was known as Nan had reportedly not been seen by neighbours for months.

Others said that her sister had recently moved in to help care for the girls and Polish-born structural engineer Mr Kuczynski who had been suffering from mental health issues.

It's a bit odd that the wife disappears and then her sister shows up to take care of the husband. It would be more common for a member of the husband's own family to come. Was the SIL worried for the children?

*note my use of the word "disappears"
Is just based on the facts currently known to us and does not suggest she is a missing person or was reported missing.

EBM - typos.

Where was the wife when all of this happened I wonder? Strange that she hadn’t been seen in a while but that the sister in law (her sister?) was living in the property taking care of the husband and daughters.

It’s easy to jump to conclusions that the male is responsible as we know how this usually goes, but I’m not ruling out other outcomes, especially if the male made a 999 call.

Basically just posted the same thoughts myself! Not sure if it’s a cultural norm or not, but I found this very strange too!

Interesting that the DM article has been edited.

it's now been changed from :-

The two little girls who are believed to have been killed by their father in a suspected murder and suicide were today described as “beautiful girls”.

Now states: -

The two little girls believed to have been killed were today described by neighbours as 'beautiful girls'.

Very interesting! It isn’t like the DM to be bothered about the risk of reporting false info, so perhaps they’ve been advised that the father wasn’t the one responsible.

Don't forget the girl's mum is Thai. Thai culture is quite different to ours so it may just be that it would be more traditional for her family to help.

The lack of mention of her whereabouts is definitely a worry.

I can't help but think it may not be the dad currently.

Maybe the dad knew he was having a mental health crisis and that's why he called for help. I can think of cases where people called the police after killing family members. Maybe that's what he did then killed himself. But this is all speculation obviously.
Very good point! Could have either called during the middle of the crisis worried about what actions he might take, or perhaps called after the fact.
