If he is found in water, I wonder if this will be another case attributed to the "phantom canal pusher".
I've read about quite a few water deaths in Manchester and some people seem to be convinced there is a nefarious perp pushing a lot of lone men in.

MOO.

I think it more likely the victims are drunk and unstable on foot and/or not aware of what they are doing.

I think so too, but the Mancunians seem to think there may be more to it all.

As a Manc, I do not believe in the pusher, personally. Until you see how narrow those passage ways are, and how close to the water they are, you dont really understand how easy it can be to lose footing and fall in, especially after a drink

Found Daniel's facebook, he seems a really lovely bloke. Also he's ex-services, looks like he was in the Marines.

Now over 48 hours since last seen. Coming so soon after Charley Gadd, who was later found in the Irwell.

This reminds me of another case and I'm pretty sure he was a firefighter too?
Hope he is found soon

I can however, see how people can conclude that a 'pusher' exists when cases like this arise, somebody with extensive military and emergency service history seems an unlikely candidate to drunkenly fall into the canal. However, Crazy Pedro's overlooks the canal. I really really hope I'm wrong, like I said about Charley, but I cannot help but always feel a numb sickness when I hear of a person disappearing from the centre as I really do jump to the conclusion that they went into the water. I have everything crossed for Dan's safe return, we have mutual friends and from what I've read he is a top chap.

Greater Manchester's chief fire officer has paid tribute to 'popular and valued' firefighter Daniel Lee after his body was found in the River Irwell. The senior firefighter went missing in the early hours of Monday morning after a night out with colleagues in Manchester city centre.

Having searched the area throughout the week, Mr Lee's body was sadly found earlier today (August 25). His next-of-kin have been informed, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

The 41-year-old, known as Dan to his colleagues, had served in Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) for 16 years. In a tribute issued this evening, chief fire officer Dave Russel said: "Everyone at GMFRS is shocked and deeply saddened by the untimely death of our colleague Watch Manager Dan Lee.

"Our thoughts are with Dan's family and friends, as they have been over the past few days as the search for him has taken place. This is a tragic end to a very difficult week and not the outcome we all so desperately hoped for.

"On behalf of GMFRS, I want to thank GMP for their efforts in the search for Dan, as well as colleagues from across GMFRS and residents and partners from across our city region who have supported the search. Dan, who served with GMFRS for 16 years, was a popular and valued member of our GMFRS family and he will be greatly missed."
