Found Deceased UK - David McLeod, 78, went to buy paper @8pm did not return, Galashiels, 16 Dec 2021

It may be that police were meaning tracks he might have left or evidence of his presence rather than evidence in a criminal sense.

I understood that, but unless they cordon off everywhere they suspect of him going, it was a bit of a moot comment by them really.
Asking volunteers not to search is understandable, but I really do think this may be the best way of finding him.
It's usually volunteers or members of the public who do find deceased missing people.

How many police officers are going to be on the ground searching themselves?
Not too many, I shouldn't think.

“Searches are ongoing with officers walking alongside the River Tweed and others on quad bikes searching rural locations.

Superintendent Alwyn Bell said: “We are continuing to conduct enquiries in an effort to trace David McLeod and we are being assisted by a number of specialist resources, including a specialist search team and the Air Support Unit.

“We are also grateful for the help being provided by our partner agencies, including the Borders Water Rescue Team and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue.

“I would also urge any motorists with dash cam footage, who were driving on any of the following roads between 9pm and midnight on Thursday, 16 December, to get in touch:

Air units have been called in amid the major search for a missing Scots pensioner suffering from dementia.

Police have confirmed a multi-agency operation is currently looking for David McLeod, who left his home on Woodstock Avenue, Galashiels to 'buy a newspaper' on Thursday, December 16.

However, the 78-year-old who has been diagnosed with dementia and can sometimes become confused has not been seen since then.

Police Scotland's helicopter team, the Borders Water Rescue and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue teams are now trying to locate him.

It is thought that the pensioner may have walked along a path known locally as the black path towards Tweedbank, that evening. He is believed to have pass near Tweedbank rail station around 8.30pm that night, according to Police Scotland.
