Found Deceased UK - Derek Arnold, 71, Nuneaton / Warks, 8 June 2021

no signs of Alzheimers, dementia or mental health problems when he went missing.

So what on earth happened to him?

I assume they've checked his house for obvious signs of a break in or a struggle having occured.

I don't think it's likely he's had an accident, he was apparently seen that night so where would he be going at that time of day? If he'd gone to a shop and suffered a heart attack for example you wouldn't think his route was so remote that no one would have come across him.

I wonder if there is anything in his life he might want to run away from - Debt etc. But you'd think Police would likely be able to find that out. If he's done that I'd hope there is evidence to suggest it e.g. withdrawing quantites of cash in the lead up to going missing.

It appeared he was out running some errands or on way somewhere when last seen on the Wednesday morning. How would that equate with a break in? I think the police as a matter of course would have checked the house.

I hadn't read about the morning after sighting, yeah it doesn't work.

It was quite a hot day: https://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/nuneaton/cv11-4/june-weather/331362

And he appears to be wearing full trousers and a long sleeved shirt. Hope he's not got dehydrated and got a bit confused?

I stopped by for an update and am very sad to see he's still not been found.

I'm presuming he didn't make it back home after he'd been to the shops on Wednesday morning?

In that last photo from CCTV he's carrying a white carrier bag with some shopping in. I'm hoping police would have checked his house for evidence of it....

Of course, he may not have been heading home after the shop, but to someone else's house......I think that would have to be within walking distance, so not more than a mile or two with that bag of groceries.

I was wondering if maybe he was hit by a car that didn't stop and ended up in a field or ditch? Because that way, if he died and lost body heat straight away, the thermal cameras of the search helicopter won't have picked him up.

Also, if he was catapulted or fell under shrubbery etc. he may not have been picked up by human sight from the helicopter either - nor possibly even ground search.

One of the brothers of a missing Nuneaton pensioner said he is 'deeply concerned' about him as he has now been missing for almost three weeks.

Edwin Arnold has issued a statement as the search for his brother Derek, who he lives with in Stockingford, continues.

He has thanked those who have been out searching for the 71-year-old since he was last seen on June 9.

His message echoes that of his nephew, Mathew Arnold, who spoke to CoventryLive about how the family was trying to stay 'hopeful'.

There has been a major search for him around Arbury Hall and another has taken place around Seeswood Pool as well as the community staging their own search - all, sadly, to no avail.

In the latest statement Edwin Arnold said: “I would like to thank the police for their response, it was excellent, and to also thank the teams of volunteers in Arbury, the volunteer Facebook group of 30 or so meeting at new Arley for the support me and my family had.

“We are as you can imagine deeply concerned for Derek.

“Thank you all at this stressful and difficult time.”

Police and specialist volunteers have carried out another search for a pensioner who has now been missing for three weeks.

They took to fields and woodland near Bentley in Atherstone yesterday (June 29) as part of the desperate hunt to find Derek Arnold.

But, sadly, they did not find the pensioner - or any trace of him.

The 71-year-old was last seen on CCTV footage captured close to his home on Arbury Road during the morning of Wednesday, June 9 - and has not been seen since.

The last time Derek was seen on CCTV footage he was wearing a white shirt, trousers and was carrying a white plastic bag.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who has seen him or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage that features him.

Anyone with any details that could help the search should call 101, quoting incident 154 of June 9.

Sad news on Derek. RIP.
A body has been discovered in the search for missing Nuneaton man Derek Arnold in a field near the B4102 Astley Lane near Nuneaton.

Mr Arnold, 71, went missing from his home in Nuneaton on 9 June. Police, search and rescue teams and volunteers have been searching for him.

At this time the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Detective Inspector Owen Fell from Nuneaton CID said: “While we’re awaiting formal identification, at this time we believe the body to be Derek’s. We’ve updated Derek’s family; they have shown great strength since he went missing and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“I would personally like to thank everyone who has helped with the search for Derek over the last few weeks; the support shown by the local community has been overwhelming.”

Poor man. But realistically after the first 3 days chances were slim he would have been found alive. I wonder what the reason and/or cause was? Did he perhaps have a heart attack? From where he was last seen on Arbury Road, it is only a 20-25 minute walk.

I still think he was perhaps hit by a car that didn't stop and ended up in the bushes/ditch somewhere....

That wouldn’t surprise me. We got indications from the family that Derek that this was out of character. Derek had no mental problems or obvious health problems, although of course anyone can have a medical emergency.

But police have said death not being treated as suspicious.

If it had been a hit and run they would be calling for drivers or witnsesses in the area on the day he went missing, or for anyone who knows anything to come forward.

They police don't really know if it was suspicious or not, because they haven't found his body to find out.

He could be lying dumped in a ditch with stab wounds.
He could be lying in a ditch having fallen and had a heart attack.
He could've been in a hit & run.

No-one knows. Even the police are just guessing really.
That's why they're not calling for drivers or witnesses to come forward.

A body has been found on Astley Lane. Though ID hasn't been confirmed yet, the deceased was in a field rather than a ditch.

I wonder if Mr Arnold was aiming to go for a walk by Seeswood Pool... It was hot with pleasant weather that weekend, and the last confirmed sighting had him with a shopping bag. I would hazard a guess and say he bought snacks for a long stroll.

Extremely sad stuff. Hopefully we have more information soon.
