GUILTY Uk - Emile Cilliers Accused Of Tampering W/ Wife's Parachute, Wiltshire, 5 April 2015

  • #441
Oh I think I'm a bit slow today. So he made an order at 10am for witness no.10 and then the case proceeded (as updated above) with reporting restrictions or some other measures in place to assist the witness. I think :D

  • #442
If that was VC it was very quick because they're on to witness no.11 already.

I am certainly slow because I haven't quite grasped this yet. This is what the listing says now, under the name Emile Stolz Cilliers:
Details:Trial (Part Heard) - Case adjourned until 10:00 - 09:49
Trial (Part Heard) - Case adjourned until 10:05 - 10:00
Trial (Part Heard) - Resume - 10:12
Trial (Part Heard) - Witness Number 10 Continues - 10:17
Trial (Part Heard) - Case adjourned until 11:34 - 11:22
Trial (Part Heard) - Witness Number 11 Sworn - 11:42
Trial (Part Heard) - Resume - 12:22
Trial (Part Heard) - No Event - 12:26
Trial (Part Heard) - No Event - 12:51
Trial (Part Heard) - Case adjourned until 14:00 - 12:57
Trial (Part Heard) - Witness Number 12 Sworn - 14:07
Trial (Part Heard) - No Event - 14:24

Does this mean that since the beginning, this has been alternating between the special Youth etc category and ordinary status, according to who the witness is? It didn't get listed as Youth etc continuously, and even today it's moved from being the asterisked case to the Cilliers case. So this vulnerability applies to more than one witness?

I have noticed that case numbers aren't unique. I did a search by case number recently and it brought up a lot of people with the same case number.

I'm leaning towards the 10am hearing being nothing to do with Cilliers case, maybe a brief hearing just before this trial got back underway?

  • #445
Except it's been happening so often, from the beginning, hasn't it?

And wouldn't they have a different number for two cases going on at the same time?

But that does confuse things further.

Must be all this summer heat ( not ! ) that is addling my brain.

Have just realised that this is ECs trial ! I kept thinking it was another case JS was hearing

If this is what it said when Alyce posted this morning, and it's now turned into what I posted above, then surely it must be the same case?

I'll admit I'm totally confused by it all Moll.

Maybe there are a lot of witnesses who need extra protection in the trial, or want to keep their anonymity in case he is acquitted? It's a first for me.

  • #448
It is odd. If it's one witness, we'd think of Victoria Cilliers. If it's more than one, it's surely very unusual. I can't believe they allow this to just anyone who asks.

  • #449
It is all very strange.
The listing that I posted this morning with the asterisks was from Court Serve main page. However, when I went onto court serve xhibit page, it listed the trial by ECs name.

Maybe the ruling has been put in place for the whole trial - or at least the prosecution part - so that it covers any of the witnesses who need the protection without singling them out. Possibly easier than putting the ruling in place for some and lifting it for others, which might make the vulnerable witnesses feel uncomfortable.

  • #450
How very interesting. Is that why there's no coverage, as opposed to just the media being bored second time round?

I agree Moll, that sounds very likely.

Hope we get to hear the closing speeches at least - and perhaps ECs defence.

Just in the interests of trying to work out what the listings mean, here is the familiar listing from Courtserve for today (starting a bit earlier than usual in Court 2 - 9.30am). The Winchester Crown Court site never seems to show anything till much later but when it does it has more detail, so it should confirm that it's the same case, I think. but for any media coverage, we may as Alyce says have to wait till the closing speeches, which is a bit disappointing.

Well, I was going to post that but the text keeps turning into code! It was the same as yesterday - Alyce obviously knows how to do it...

This is the law pages list for today - they seem to be rattling through witnesses now

Well how odd. I just posted something and it has completely disappeared....

was just saying Moll, that I usually copy over the info from court serve by highlighting the text with my mouse and then pasting on here

I tried that twice, Alyce - both times in draft it looked fine and then it vanished when I posted it, leaving a statement about the code. Never mind, you've done it and it is now 100% clear this is the same case.

PS This is a weirdly unsatisfactory way of following a case!

Try 'paste as plain text'.

On a PC: Ctrl + Shift + V

On a Mac: Shift + Option + Command + V

Or right-click on the mouse and choose
'paste as plain text'.

Thanks, LB - if I can't follow the case at least I've had my computer skills improved!

Curiouser and curiouser. That's very clever of you to notice that, Tortoise. I've no idea.

Those two sections come under the power to restrict reporting so that settles that earlier query, whether it concerns a child or a vulnerable adult.

  • #460
That makes a lot of sense - Section 46, I mean - fits the bill far better.
