The Judge is hearing another trial in Court today.

Perhaps, after their extended break 11 - 11.30 - the Jury had a question but the Judge was not available until 14 00 hrs ?

Maybe they're ready!

A jury at Winchester Crown Court's denied any suggestions bullying might be taking place during deliberations.

It's after a judge dismissed two jurors through stress-related illness.

They've spent a week discussing the Emile Cilliers attempted murder case - he's accused of attempting to murder his wife by tampering with her parachute.

Good point.

Maybe - if the voting was 8 - 4 - then the two departing have reduced it to 8 - 2 and one of those 2 has switched over.

The statement re the denial of bullying might also make them keen to bring in a result today, to show that they can debate and resolve the case amicably.

O/T There was a case earlier this year where a female juror was trying to find out if one of the policemen who was a key witness in the case was single because she had a crush on him. His credibility as a witness was at issue, because the police were accused of planting evidence. When it was revealed to the judge, he asked her if she could continue to deliberate the case impartially. She said yes and he believed her because she had admitted having a crush.

Or,maybe the - alleged - bullying has stopped, with the departure of 2 jurors. Either for the obvious reason, or because it has given the others a reality check to see two people having to leave due to stress ? and they have decided to try and mediate in a calmer manner.

He told them: “The direction I gave you yesterday afternoon was against the background that I had discharged two of your original number as they were suffering stress-related illnesses and medical evidence showed they were not fit to continue.

“Having to discharge jurors while they are deliberating for stress-related illnesses is very rare. It may happen at one end of the spectrum through sheer bad luck or, at the other end of the spectrum, it may happen because something has gone wrong with the way the deliberations were being conducted.

Seems like that's what this morning has been focused on. What a shame. Get rid of them I say, they shouldn't even be discussing this with family.

It is a shame and doesn't look, now, as though this long adjourment meant they had a verdict ready and were just waiting for the Judge to be able to hear them.

It seems all they wanted to do was put out their statement !

When I was on jury service we were instructed to not even tell anyone what case we were on. That is to prevent someone who knows any of the parties involved, or anything not included in the evidence in court, influencing you.

Same here, Tortoise, re instructions to jury.

There's already been that business earlier in the trial when a juror complained about a member of court staff saying something implying Cilliers ought to be found guilty unless proved innocent, also very unusual and odd .

To be honest, I am to the point where I feel like the judge needs to declare a mistrial and start all over with a new jury. I hate saying that, but something just really doesn't feel right here.

Rather than delete this post I am going to amend to say it now seems more likely that the two jurors who have left were the ones who raised the B word.

It's looking to me as if two jurors with stress related illness after deliberations started is far from coincidental. I'm hoping now they will not be able to reach a verdict, because 9 is already teetering on unsafe. It could go to not guilty and the crown wouldn't then have an opportunity for a retrial. Discussing the case with family is reason enough for the judge to dismiss them, and it's my opinion that he should before it's too late.

Do you mean they've said f&f but they (most likely) really read it in the papers and they can't say that?
