A police operation continues today as tributes pour in to a mother whose body was found in Reddish Vale Country Park.

Formal identification of the victim has not yet taken place, but she has been named locally as Yvonne Lawson McCann.

It is understood she was a mother.

How long does DNA evidence usually take?
The remains have meant that identification has to be by DNA. So sad for the family who hope that it’s not her.

This is so heartbreaking! And only getting worse with the thought of her being dismembered. The only good thing is that she was found and not disappeared forever.

We can have DNA turnaround in this country within 24 hours if it is available in sufficient quantity but otherwise it will need to be subject to a process where it the cultures are grown in the lab before it can be tested, plus it’s the weekend and the cost of doing it at a weekend as opposed to mon to fri , rises ex potentially by thousands and in these days of taxpayers money being accountable and austerity measures, depends upon when the submission will be made . We have the ‘ privatisation of the forensic science service ‘ to thank for the massive hike in forensic examination costs !
Whoever it is may she RIP X

Apparently domestic violence cases have risen by 38% during lockdown and these are the forgotten victims of COVID 19!!

I’m surprised it’s taken so long. The remains were found on Monday. I am local to this crime and read that the remains were found in lots of bags. I’m sure forensics should be able to identify the lady more quickly than they have done. Maybe the labs are short staffed due to coronavirus.
The man arrested appears to be related to the lady named in the newspaper though.

A husband who strangled his wife after a row about frozen chips, then dumped her dismembered body in a country park, has been jailed for life for murder.

Thomas McCann, 49, strangled Yvonne, 46, his wife of 24 years, in the bathroom of their home in Stockport, after a row about a bag of frozen chips left out of the freezer, Manchester crown court heard.

McCann then cut up the body of the mother of four, stopping to send and reply to text messages to their children, pretending their mother was still alive.

McCann was jailed for life on Tuesday with a minimum term of 13 years and four months before parole. He will serve no less than 12 years in prison.

Poor Yvonne. And 13 years? That's a pathetically low minimum term for murder.

The original trial date was Nov 2020, covid got in the way one presumes , was he held on remand for all that time?

The article was dated 30th March 2021 (not that it says so on the page but Google has the date, alongside multiple others from other sources on the same date), so not that long a wait, I've just been looking up old threads which sounded interesting but were unresolved - should've included that in my post, sorry!
