A fine art transportation company van and multiple police vehicles have now left the grounds of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s former Berkshire residence.

Thames Valley Police have been searching the Royal Lodge estate, a few miles south of Windsor castle, since Thursday morning.

At around 4pm, a dark blue Gander and White van was seen leaving the outer gates of the Windsor Great Park, which surrounds the Royal Lodge estate, PA reported.

Gander and White describes itself as “one of the world’s leading fine art logistics companies, providing art storage, transport, installation and customs services”.

Two large police vans with tinted windows, each carrying several uniformed officers, were also seen leaving the property.

In this country, public office misconduct and perverting the course of justice are deemed to be more serious than sex offences. As strange as it sounds. On a sex offence charge, he'd probably serve a year, if that. On this current charge, he's looking at the rest of his life banged up (in the event he is guilty).

He really isn't, I'm afraid. All that the maximum sentence of life imprisonment for misconduct in public office means is that it's a Common Law offence that Parliament has never got around to setting any sentencing guidelines for. Nobody is actually sentenced to Life if they are found guilty of it. Here is a report of a Court of Appeal judgement that gives some idea of what sentence the offence attracts in reality. A civilian police worker transferred thousands of crime scene pictures to his own devices and was sentenced to 3 years. Two police officers shared crime scene pictures with their friends and were sentenced to 2 years and 9 months. The Court of Appeal ruled that neither sentence was manifestly excessive.

Given his position and the years of public scrutiny, it’s hard to imagine Andrew wasn’t receiving legal advice well in advance of any formal investigation. That said, he’s often come across as overly confident in his own judgment — especially during that BBC interview — so whether he actually followed that advice is another question entirely. Just my opinion.
