ARMED cops have swooped on a busy street in Glasgow in a "major incident" amid unconfirmed reports multiple people have been stabbed.

The road in the city centre has been closed off with emergency crews currently on the scene.

Three people are believed to have been stabbed to death in a stairwell to a hotel in Glasgow city centre.

It understood that a suspect was shot dead by police.

The Scottish Police Federation have confirmed a police officer was stabbed. Armed police remain at the scene outside the Park Inn in West George Street.

Police Scotland say following incident in Glasgow city centre: "The individual who was shot by armed police has died. Six other people are in hospital for treatment to their injuries including a police officer, who is in a critical but stable condition"
