I think it's more likely something that was new yesterday and so has to be struck from the record and not considered evidence, maybe hopefully the claim that Helen took his sleeping pills herself.

It was quite obviously the prosecution seeking permission to bring Nick and Joe into court.

This exchange confuses me. I thought it was established IS had possession of Helen's phone? Did Helen supposedly have it with her when she was 'kidnapped' then?

My understanding is that IS was sending text messages to Helen's phone in an attempt to leave a false trail, even though the phone was in his possession - which I think he now admits? It's getting very confusing with all the changes in his story and the tangled web of lies.

Yes, he was, and at some point he said he thought Nick would take the phone back to Helen and then she'd see the texts. Or Nick would or something. Or perhaps Joe would read them during a break from his bowls match?!

Trimmer: You’ve been telling us on a number of occasions you’ve been struggling to remember bits of this?
S: Yes, some whole days
T: You went on holiday didn’t you?
S: Yes
T: Sometime while on holiday or before that you lost your phone?
S: Yes, before I went away.
T: On holiday you had no method of contacting Nick and Joe at all?
S: No
T: They had no way of contacting you?
S: Yes, they had my phone number
T: But you lost your phone?
S: You’ve missed out a whole sequence of events. At some stage I had two phones. I couldn’t use my existing phone because it had a cracked screen and was locked on EE. Jamie got me a phone off eBay.
I got some sims, tested it and it worked better round the house. I always had a phone with me that worked with my telephone number.
T: Did you find it uncomfortable being in Spain and wondering whether Helen would be frantically trying to contact you?
S: I still had my phone. I always had my phone with my telephone number, the one number Helen knew off by heart as well

I wonder if any of the TV cameras got shots of Nick and Joe arriving at court! :-)

[h=3]'You knew perfectly well where she was'[/h]T: Why on your arrest, did you say ‘Jamie the garage doors are open’. Did you have any particular concern about police and the garage?
S: No
T: At 7.02am you’re told you’re being arrested. You said ‘You’re joking’ then you say ‘bloody hell why?’ and then ‘why, I don’t understand what happened’. You’d been arrested and heard the words of the caution.
Then you say ‘have you found Helen?’ What I’m after here is how are these things connected in your mind? Why did you think the finding of Helen would provoke your arrest?
S: Because I was told on several occasions I was the main suspect.
T: And the next question ‘where is she?’
S: I wondered where they found her
T: And then you’re worried about the garage?
S: Yes
T: All those things were in your mind together. You knew perfectly well where she was and where they would find her. Stewart doesn’t answer.
There will now be a lunch break until 2.05pm.

He's denying that and saying he hoped she would see them, presuambly he means when the kidnappers gave her the phone that at that point he was saying he couldn't find, which brings me to ask...

He's admitted that he had the phone so on that Friday 15th where he was expecting Helen to come back but instead one of the kidnappers turned up and demanded Helen's phone why didn't he hand them her phone. Instead he looked everywhere, couldn't find it and ended up getting punched for not being able to find it and told to go to Broadstairs the next day, even if he couldn't find it.

What is a live bean anyway? Anyone heard of that before? Was he a dead bean?

probably some sort of Freudian slip.
Also shows that in order to be a convincing liar, you need to have a good memory...

Interesting bit of info there. Jamie got him a new phone

At some stage I had two phones. I couldn’t use my existing phone because it had a cracked screen and was locked on EE. Jamie got me a phone off eBay.

So he gota 2nd phone because the screen was cracked on his first phone and then lost the first phone?

Ah, well spotted CP. Have you made your own copy of the flowchart?

Did originally he claim to think Helen had the phone until Friday when he "spoke to her" and she asked him to find it?

I'm off to the village, will be back before court resumes :) Eet smakkelijk (as the Dutch say).

The audacity of the man correcting the prosecution on more than one occasion. Who does he think he is? He is the wrong doer, yet he thinks he can act clever and cocky in a court of law and on a serious charge.

Nah he's admitted now that he had it , which would mean that he still had it on the Friday when the kidnapper asked for it and when Helen spoke to him on the kidnappers phone, yet his story says he then couldn't find it anywhere and was allowed to carry on looking for it to take to them in Broadstairs.

What happened to the phone nijoe gave him? Omg this is a total rabble. He's not got a scooby what's going on. Talking of scooby I wouldn't be surprised if strimmer brings in scooby doo and shaggy any moment to sum up....

Yup April 26th they gave him a phone that they would ring him on. They told him to keep it charged so I expect they gave him a charger too lol

That day, April 26, he claimed Nick, described as a tall, tattooed man, turned up at his door, Stewart told St Albans Crown Court.
He claimed after opening his gate remotely he was punched twice by the **** and fell to his knees.
“He then said Helen has told them where something was in the garage and they were going to go in and get it. He said ‘We need the keys to the Jeep, where are the keys?’ and I pointed to a drawer.
“Almost as I was doing this, Joe came in and told him to come in the garage, I was on the ground.”
Stewart told the court a phone was produced from Nick’s pocket and thrown to him.
“Nick said ‘This is for you, keep it charged, keep it with you, we will ring you on it’.
