Police admit "issues of concern" about their actions before arrest of depraved Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins 28 Nov 2013 14:40

It is understood a detective sergeant with South Wales Police has been suspended as inquiries into the force's handling of the case continue

A police force says it has identified "issues of concern" over its actions in the run-up to the arrest of disgraced Lostprophets star Ian Watkins.

The force says it voluntarily referred the matter to the police watchdog.

It comes after a former girlfriend of the paedophile singer insisted she had repeatedly warned police officers Watkins wanted to sexually abuse children but was not taken seriously.......

But there are now concerns over how police reacted to early claims of his behaviour.

Joanna Majic, 38, said Watkins confided in her in 2008 that he wanted to abuse children but added: "I went straight to South Wales Police then and made a complaint but they ignored me and said I needed evidence. I couldn't believe how indifferent the police were."

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is now investigating whether South Wales Police failed to act.

South Wales Police temporary assistant chief constable Liane James told WalesOnline : "South Wales Police undertook a full review of the sequence of events that lead to the arrest of Ian Watkins.

"We identified that there were issues of concern and voluntarily referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for investigation.

This case is so messed up I can't think of any other alleged or convicted celebrity child molestation cases to compare it to. Michael Jackson was acquitted, so it was possible the allegations are false, and became a revered figure after his death. Jimmy Savile's crimes didn't get major public attention until after his death so he was spared from all the hate. Gary Glitter was convicted and it killed his image and career but from what I've read he didn't target children that young. Ian Watkins admitted to attempting or planning to rape one-year-old babies. That's on a whole new level.

Hi guys, just checking back in. As you can imagine these past few days have been pretty tough.
It still doesn't feel real, and to be honest the feeling of deception is still lingering. He will get everything and more of what he did to those children in prison.
Whilst there are a few more details that can't be backed up in MSM (some had simply refused to say the because of how horrifying they are) I can tell you that he is a sick see you next Tuesday and so are his codefendants. What has been released was only the surface of his crimes. :(

HMV Remove Lostprophets Music From Their Stores

HMV have confirmed that they will no longer be stocking any of Lostprophets’ back catalogue after Ian Watkins’ trial earlier this week.

The entertainment retailer confirmed that they will no longer stick any of the band’s music online and in store and have instructed all of their staff members to remove any of the offending items from their shelves.

Apple have been contacted by NME to see if they will be following HMV’s lead in removing Lostprophets album from iTunes but have declined to comment as yet.

Amazon were also approached but they also declined to comment.

I have a question re the trial: he pleaded guilty to 13 of the 24 charges, iirc. So will he be tried for the 11 charges he did not plead guilty to? I don't quite understand why it is going directly to sentencing now.

As I understand it, the charges he admitted to were the most serious ones. (He pleaded guilty to attempted rape rather than rape, but the judge allowed that because the video apparently did not make clear whether the rape had actually been completed.) Convicting him on the other 11 charges would not increase his sentence substantially, and would force a jury to go through an extremely traumatic trial. This kind of thing is pretty common when a guilty plea is accepted. I imagine the only reason they charged him with lesser offences in the first place was in case the more serious charges didn't stick.

The rest of the band have released a statement on their official Facebook page. I hope it's OK to quote here:

Earlier this week, we learned that the allegations of child sexual abuse against Ian were true, and that he would not be contesting them in court. Until then, we found them extremely difficult to believe and had hoped it was all a mistake. Sadly, the true extent of his appalling behaviour is now impossible to deny.

Many of you understandably want to know if we knew what Ian was doing. To be clear: We did not. We knew that Ian was a difficult character. Our personal relationships with him had deteriorated in recent years to a point that working together was a constant, miserable challenge. But despite his battles with drugs, his egotistic behaviour, and the resulting fractures and frustrations within our band, we never imagined him capable of behaviour of the type he has now admitted.

We are heartbroken, angry, and disgusted at what has been revealed. This is something that will haunt us for the rest of our lives. Being in a band has always been a labour of love and a platform to inspire people, not to take advantage of them. It's still hard to believe this is happening and that someone we were once so close to has destroyed so many lives, lying every step of the way.
Our hearts go out to Ian's family, the fans and friends he betrayed, and most importantly, the victims of his crimes and others like them. We hope for justice, but also that Ian will truly take responsibility for what he's done. We would urge any other victims to contact the authorities.

I'm sure Gavin Allen is honest when he speaks about the band members. But I have to admit, for me lingering doubts remain. And it does not only pertain to the Lostprophets members but extends to other bands and musicians as well. From now on I will always wonder what - besides drugs - really goes on behind the curtain. It's sad really. This case has shocked me deeply. I find it almost incomprehensible.

It depends on the band.
It's mostly sex, drugs and rock n' roll debauchery that can include underage teenage girl groupies. The pedo, baby rape is rare (I hope!) but you never know.
Many unhealthy people are attracted to the seedy underbelly of the industry.
I have run into some weird, creepy fetishists that claim looking at child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 is not harmful and they have wives, girlfriends that enable and defend them to do so as "alternative lifestyle" or just a "kink"...creepy.

I feel so sorry/sad for people that are close/related to a person that has done something so horrible or so disgusting.

I can not imagine being in the band members shoes and hearing that what was said was true.

Just heartbreaking. Those poor children.

unless they're abusers themselves, why would they ever suspect it?

many people don't even realize this kind of depravity exists

Seriously? Only abusers recognize or suspect abuse? I guess we need to give the side-eye to all those who report abuse to child services or LE...

And maybe "many" people in the wider population don't realize pedophilia and sexual deviancy exists, but the recording industry is not comprised of church ladies and naifs.

Recording artists like Ian Watkins do not operate in a vacuum. They are surrounded by people - not just band members - whose job it is to facilitate, enable and indulge. They are given an astonishing amount of latitude in their behavior. Anything to keep the golden goose happy so it will continue to lay golden eggs. Moral compasses in that industry are also... shall we say skewed. Not as bad as it used to be, imo, but that's not saying a whole lot. The fact that fans and forum users knew about it, and his ex knew about it, suggests to me that the pearl-clutchers in his circle are engaging in a whole lot of CYA. I am absolutely not buying that this was a secret. Perhaps no one knew about the escalation, such as the attempted rape of a baby (dear god), but his "proclivity" and his interactions for that purpose with multiple fans? His public online content? Again, I'm not buying what they're selling.

Which of course does not in any way mitigate or diminish Watkins' full ownership of his actions. Party's over, a******.

MMO MMO MMO

p.s. Peaches Geldof is a nutter, imo. Ordo Templi Orientis, Scientology, etc. etc. I'm not surprised this "journalist" couldn't figure out what info she should refrain from disseminating.

Ian Watkins hinted at his perversion during 2010 live=streamed interview:

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/12/11/ian-watkins-child-abuse-lostprophets-_n_4425248.html

At the 6 minute mark, when asked by online user named "Babygirl" what the band's guilty pleasure is, Watkins s******s and can be heard saying: "You just answered it."
"People watching will be like, 'did he just say that?'" he adds.
His Lostprophets bandmates then claim not to have heard his response.
Watkins then changed his answer to 'smack' (slang for heroin).

South Wales police are looking at prosecuting Peaches Geldorf for tweeting the name of the two women in this case, after she read them on a US website. Wish they'd been as quick with spotting Watkin's social media.

http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/nov/28/peaches-geldof-tweet-ian-watkins-lostprophets

People have been warning for years and years about this man. All over the web. 40,000 viewers saw his 🤬🤬🤬🤬 postings. He couldn't have been much more open about his tastes, either. His password for his icloud crashplan storage was I****kids.

He thought he was untouchable and he was right. He was, for years. Those poor babes. I hope there aren't any more, but it doesn't seem possible these are his only victims.

Musicians often are untouchable and do think they are above the law.

I know of one musician in Seattle who is into the same thing but w/o hard evidence police won't even investigate. He hides under freedom of religion and alternative swinger lifestyle or a "kink". You'd be shocked at how many women are not only willing to help dose, date rape teens but don't see anything wrong with it.
I reported it and was shunned by friends as uptight.
