An artist and children’s author was the victim of a shooting in a quiet Hampshire village in which the suspect fled on a motorcycle before crashing in a police chase and dying.

James Nash, who was also a parish councillor, suffered critical head injuries. Police are continuing to investigate the motive for the attack.

The shooting took place in the village of Upper Enham on Wednesday afternoon, where Nash, 42, and his wife, Sarah, a specialist in satellite technology with a government agency, live in a cottage.

The shooting suspect is believed to have left the scene on foot before jumping on to a motorcycle. The 34-year-old crashed the bike three miles away during a police chase.

From that DM article ^^ sounds like James' wife might have been present and injured (woman, age 40, at same address)

Also: The gunman is thought to have been known to Mr Nash, though their exact relationship is unclear.

I wonder who the intended victim was? It does sound like a "hit". Wondering which govt agency...

Saudi Crown prince sent hit squad to Canada to kill former spy, lawsuit claims
August 6, 2020
''TORONTO -- The crown prince of Saudi Arabia sent a hit squad to Canada in an effort to hunt down and kill a former top intelligence official who knows too much, a civil suit filed Thursday in court in the United States asserts.

The 106-page unproven complaint, which reads like a spy thriller, accuses Mohammed bin Salman of orchestrating attempts to silence Saad Aljabri, a permanent resident of Canada.''

Police yesterday confirmed that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He was named locally last night as Alex Sartain, 34.

A villager said: 'We don't know what caused the younger man to target James – there must have been a dispute of some sort.

'But I know that the shooter was a troubled soul who had had issues with drink or drugs.'

The villager said he had heard that Mr Nash was fired at with a 'homemade shotgun'.

Same organisation for both. I was thinking that also, but the DM article seems to indicate the shooter was a troubled person, so am now thinking a local dispute as he lived literally round the corner.

And James is a local councillor.

If this is the same bloke, he's served time for theft and also been in trouble for assault, driving offences and drugs

James Nash lives in a thatched cottage on MacCallum Road.
JMS Motorcycles (S for Sartain, poss father) is on the same road with a house and a large yard, approx 100 metres away from a group of thatched cottages.

Neighbourhood dispute, disgruntled resident unhappy with local council decision? Land / noise / mess?
