The prosecution case has begun with the claim that VT had never spoken to JY and did not know her name. They claim that JY resisted and fought for her life, but he held her neck long enough to squeeze the life out of her. He subsequently drove the body to Longwood Lane in the boot of his own Renault Megane (the first time, I think, we have learnt that he had a car).

Having tried but failed to put the body over the wall (possibly trying to get it to fall into the quarry) VT sent a text to TM before he went home, telling TM that he was "bored".

Rather chilllingly, they have evidence that he had researched body decomposition on the Internet, and had also looked up details of the case on the A&S police website. He also searched the net for times of refuse collections in the area after he heard about the missing pizza. When presented with the DNA evidence, he accused forensic scientists of forgery and taking bribes.

The prosecution case is already looking very damning.

For those wanting to follow the case as it happens, I recommend following rupertevelyn on twitter (ITV news correspondent for SW England) as he is tweeting live and frequently from Bristol Court One.

He went into Asda twice, the second time buying rock salt, crisps and beer at around 10.30, with Jo's body in his boot (NL) #joyeates

So cold , makes you wonder if it has been done before.

It sure does: there's no way he could have been totally normal for 32 years, and then suddenly ... this.

Strange how his car has been kept secret, I don't think anyone on here heard anything about him owning a car.

It was never categorically stated that he did NOT have a car, so I have always borne in mind that he might have done.

We have never known TM's arrangements re the party. Now we know he picked her up. So it could be that normally she used the car more than he did. It always seemed likely that she had a car, or the use of one, to get to work.

So much of our speculating stems from not knowing many basic facts which were known to the police almost from the start.

I just keep thinking: Thank God he didn't manage to get her body over that wall; otherwise she might never have been found.

The theory that he was drunk doesn't seem likely now, seeing that he drove to the supermarket and drove to pick up his girlfriend. Very puzzling that he's claiming it was manslaughter.

This is far worse than I thought. My stomach is doing flips. If those were JY's screams, and he killed her only minutes after she came home, what in god's name was his motive?

esp after accusing the forensic scientists of forging evidence!

How can one strangle someone then go shopping at Asda like nothing happened totally preposterous, for a manslaughter charge, IMO.

So why all the interest in the other cars ? Cant remember was there still a interest in the cars even after he was arrested.

His complete ineptness at covering his tracks makes me doubt he killed before... Isn't it common knowledge that freezing conditions slow down decomposition? Unless he was so utterly deluded that he didn't think the police would EVER catch on that it was him, which is entirely possible...

Mr Lickley said: 'The pizza and its box have not been found. Joanna Yeates did not eat it. Vincent Tabak took it, as he did one of her socks. Why he took these items only he can say.'

Sinister, Trophy, as been said all along.

I doubt it! As regards the pizza, the obvious inference is that he ate it. The sock - hmmm, maybe, but it's the kind of thing he might have used to try and wipe up any mess, fingerprints etc. And if it was taken as a "trophy", you would expect him to have kept it.
