Clegg says Tabak misread the situation. She was just being friendly but he made a move towards her to kiss her in her lips.

He misread and made a move towards her as if to kiss her on the lips. Put one hand behind her back to draw her closer. She screamed.

The time. He thinks he was in the flat for about ten minutes. How reliable that is you will have to consider Clegg tells jury

That short picture that I've just painted to you is what happened on that dreadful Friday night. Vincent has no reliable way of calculating

Tabak panicked. He put his hand over her mouth, he then put one hand around her throat.
rupertevelyn Rupert Evelyn
He did not intend to kill her. It was not planned. It was pure chance he passed by her window.

It was a loud piercing scream. He panicked. He put her hand over her mouth to stifle her scream. Said to her stop screaming and apologised

Joanna made a loud piercing scream. Court hears that in seconds Joanna went limp. She was dead.

The pass gone wrong is what they're going with, then. No wonder they're disputing the timings.

Edit: He thinks he was in the flat for 10 minutes. He tried to kiss her after chatting for 10 minutes? Good grief!

Def: VT thinks he may have been in her flat for about ten mins before the scream.

He didn't hang about long before trying it on then!

Screams were heard by others that night. You've heard from no one at number 44 says Clegg.

Jury hears that it was pure chance that Tabak walked passed Joanna's kitchen window when she was looking out.

Clegg says Tabak never intended to kill her, that nothing had been planned, nothing had been premeditated.

Time of hands around her throat was very short. Far less than a minute. 20 seconds a possible time for death to occur

WHY would he walk past her window rather than walk left from his front door to the car park?

He did this after 10 minutes of social chat? He had never met her before?

I wonder if he is on the autistic spectrum? I have wondered this for a long time,
difficulty reading human signals?

3 screams heard by people at 53 can't all have come from Joanna Yeates says Clegg. #yeates

Mr Clegg explains that the jury will hear from another pathologist to explain how long it may have taken for Joanna to die.

This is going to take some selling.

I doubt that most women would react to a gentle advance with a scream. He must have done more than that.

And if she was alarmed enough to scream? The natural reaction is to step back, stand away and hold one's hands up.

LAME story. Why on earth would Jo invite a man in that she barely knew? She had plans, to bake, to tidy the flat, she had pizza and some cider - surely she wasn't that desperate, to invite a virtual stranger in? I just don't buy it. It would be interesting to hear from Jo's parents and Greg as to whether this is a likely scenario for Jo - did she ever do things that put her personal safety at risk? Was she ever over-friendly with strangers?

Aspergers? Perhaps he thought that a woman inviting him in and saying "my boyfriend is away this weekend" meant that she was coming on to him? Even if he thought that - did he have no thought for his girlfriend (nearly fiancee?!)? Bizarre. But it sounds like he had had quite a sheltered life, ie TM was his first serious girlfriend... I dunno. It doesn't quite ring true to me.

I wonder why it matters to the prosecution to establish who heard the screams. They themselves are saying that she screamed twice - what does it matter who heard her?

Lehman's heard 2 screams. That cannot be what warren sweet heard. That must be a separate scream or shout. #yeates

Mr Clegg says that people in near by flat heard three screams - they all could not have come from Joanna #yeates

Clegg has just said "Screams were heard by others that night. You've heard from no one at number 44".

I hope the prosecution points out that the residents on the upper floors were elderly and may either be partially deaf or have gone to bed by then - and the LL was, I think, out. I don't think saying that nobody in 44 reported screams is very convincing. In any case, Clegg has admitted that JY screamed.

WHY would he walk past her window rather than walk left from his front door to the car park?

Asda is a 2 mile walk, perhaps he wanted to kill time...

  • #357
Yes, why are they rubbishing the screams, but claiming at the same time that she did scream?

  • #358
I'm glad at least that there is no suggestion that JY was leading him on or consented at any point to his sexual advances. That's something to be grateful for.

  • #359
I have no difficulty in believing the story that she initially invited him in to be sociable and he misread the signals. But there is a big chunk missed out as to what made her scream and as to her struggle for life. We need evidence about whether he habitually passed her flat door going to his car.

I think it's about timing

Lehman's heard scream-scream thud at IIRC 20:49. That's probably not 10 minutes after she got home.

Explains the jury timing the walk from the Hophouse pub
