There is a timeline here

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-st...trial-countdown-to-a-tragedy-115875-23480428/

I'd still treat it with caution though because it mentions VT leaving Canyge Rd at 10pm; 10.13pm was stated in court.

It's neither here or there really, but the in/out of the cat is bothering me. VT said something at one of the dinner parties he attended following Joanna Yeates' death about having played with the cat in the past but he hadn't seen it for a couple of days but it had returned by Sunday.

BBM Do you have a source for the 10:13pm sighting? Thx

Still no verdict. Jury have now been deliberating for a total of nine hours.

This could run and run! I wonder what the record is.

The judge won't let it. My guess is that if they have not reached a decision by lunchtime tomorrow, he'll say that he's willing to accept a majority verdict. This can often get over the problem of just one person holding out for their own view.

But if they can't even reach a majority verdict, the jury will have to be dismissed and then there will have to be a retrial with a new jury. :banghead:

In the case of Huntley, it only took them 1 hour after being given the majority verdict ruling to reach a verdict. That was after 3 days deliberation.

I tend to agree with you about tomorrow lunchtime for the majority verdict ruling. They'll want to wrap it up this week which would be the end of the forecast 4 week period

if I were in VT's position, I would not be happy with that, but I suppose the rest of his defence team have actually spent more time with him that the Big Cheese. Whichever way it goes Clegg's presence is probably not required.

Tabak's lawyer tells him that Joanna did not get back to her flat until about twenty to nine. And that Tabak drove away at 10.13pm.

Jo would have returned home at about 8.40pm. Tabak drove away from the flats at 10.13pm

Tabak struggling to get words out as he talks about putting Joanna's body in boot of his car. Drove body away at 10.13pm.

Even if he does get guilty to murder, he will definately appeal imho..... he's too much of a narcissist not to.

What grounds do you think he might be able to invoke for an appeal ? He can't just ask for a retrial if he doesn't like the verdict.

He can only do that if he has grounds for an appeal and is given leave to appeal, and that doesn't happen in the majority of criminal cases.

#tabak jury sent home for the day. They've now had 10 hours deliberations. Hearing a majority direction could still be a while off too.

Only just seen Clio's question about the 10.13pm timing - thanks for answering Luna - thought I was going to have to search for hours!

Hmm. I wonder what his source for that is? I imagine that there will be some other big case booked in for Bristol Court 1 on Monday, which would have to be postponed if TB's case continues into next week.

Not impossible of course, but there's also more of a risk of jurors discussing the case or researching it, if they get sent home for the weekend. And I doubt that the court would be happy to sequester them in a hotel, because of the cost and because there has been no hint of jury knobbling to make this necessary.

Don't know his source - do the media get any kind of advance warning that a judge is near to accepting a majority. The media have been camped in the court all day today. Jon Kay tweeted he'd be there for as long as it takes until the verdict is in

I still think it's true that unless there are some people on the jury that can keep the group focused on the key issues, as directed by the judge, they could well be going round and round in circles looking for a motive. You just have to look on here to see people trying to come up with plausible scenarios for "what really happened" and "why" he did it. Me included!

Anyone else feel that the length of deliberation indicates we might be headed for a "doodslag" (Dutch for Manslaughter - I read this somewhere earlier !) verdict ?

  • #679
It's interesting to read about all the theories about how VT could have been in Joanna's flat prior to her arrival at home, but the problem with these scenarios is that no evidence was presented in court to support the theory - not from the prosecution, not from the defence. The beauty of the theory is that it provides a neat package for explaining the reason behind the assault: he was prowling, got caught, attacked her, panicked, hid her body. This theory also seems to completely support the manslaughter charge. That is, it suggests that he was in the apartment for unknown reasons, was surprised by her when she arrived at home and the murder was spontaneous.

I don't think this murder falls into a neat package like that. I think there was something wrong with VT's head that night. My gut feeling is that he was in a rage for some reason, that he went to her door and attacked her. I keep coming back to Joran v.d. Sloot, whom I believe went into spontaneous, violent rages; attacked women and was then quite instantly again calm. That said, I think that VT has very cleverly wrapped his testimony around known facts in order to explain the evidence and that he has made a good argument for manslaughter. I see one of the main weaknesses in his defence being that he provided a new explanation during testimony - making it very obvious that he looked at the facts and concocted a story.

you're right, after I reread it I realised they prolly meant the FB thread

bbm- is bold by me, meaning I bolded into their quote and they did not bold it originally! sometimes you'll see sbm which is snipped by me, meaning they deleted some of the quoted post for space or whatever

Thanks for that. I'd just write bolded in brackets. If I ever cut something I write cut in square brackets.

Oh, on second thoughts... no I wouldn't. I just follow the normal online practice of highlighting in bold whatever I want to highlight and writing my comments. That's what I have been doing for years as have other regular posters where I normally post or frequent online. No need for anything else.
