Yes I feel aggrieved that so much consideration was given to him having a 'fair trial' and not much to what the consequences of that consideration would be to public safety should he have not been found guilty of murder - I would like to think the judge would have given him a hefty sentance either way.

The fact that he was given a "fair trial" has to be a good thing in that he can't now appeal surely.

I feel pretty certain that the judge was going to deal out a hefty sentence whatever the outcome was

Not really in favour of capital punishment but after reading this and the overwhelming evidence of his depraved and horrific actions and guilt I can't help feeling I would want the same. Out in twenty years, not a nice thought for anyone if that happens.

It doesn't mean he will be out in 20 years, just eligible for parole. If they still see him as a threat he won't be let out. Lets hope they never release him.

I had considered that before Otto, but no fibres found over or on her mouth were presented as DNA evidence. I still think it might have been taken as a masturbation aid (sorry folks for the graphic description).

However I agree that the incident, and the 40+ resulting injuries came from a process that took far longer than 20 seconds. Far, far longer (sadly.) The manner of death might have happened fairly quickly but I believe poor Jo was subjected to a longer lasting attack.

I believe he used the sock to pleasure himself too.

I feel desperate that her suffering was likely to have been worse than any of us imagined.

I must be incredibly naieve but I was shocked to hear of his logging on to sites first thing in the morning before he went to work. It would be interesting to know what he was looking at shortly before the attack.

But will they see him as a threat that's what worries me. Unless they have something else on him, then he will in for life I would have thought. Twenty years for what he did and so perverse does not seem that long to me. Out at fifty three if all goes well . He will have a lot more years of life then Jo had.

Attempted rape gone wrong. I think he rang the door bell and attacked her around 9pm as per witness testimony of a woman's screams.

I want to know his internet history.
I want to know if anything interesting happened in California.
Have there been unreported or reported incidents of sexual assaults involving him.
Did he stage the flat.
I want to know why he took the pizza. Was the oven really on? Was the pizza in the oven? Only 7-9 mins to heat the pizza. Did it even make it to the oven.
I want to know how he had the means to get in and out of JY's flat to remove her body and later the pizza and sock. Did he have the foresight to unlock the door before he left the first time.
What in heavens name was he doing with a dead body in his flat for 30-45 mins, if we go by NL's timeline.
So many more questions...

The inadmissible evidence has sickened me too, not to mention that I was initially giving the the benefit of the doubt; it took a long while for me to comprehend the notion of intent with no motive (thanks again aneurin!), and the lack of stronger evidence in the prosecution's case also held back my critical thinking.

Am glad a couple of my questions were answered today, and I am confident more details will be emerge that will explain the others.

Hope he's shipped off to Holland, although he will not be safe from fellow inmates wherever he is incarcerated, which is a good thing.

Now that my mind and heart are racing, I would also like to know if in the those long periods of time unaccounted for, did VT have a friend over? The other DNA sample found on JY's jeans is still unidentified, isn't it?

I'm still dumbstruck that the judge wouldn't let the jury be told about the type of he'd been watching regularly eg blond girls being strangled and bound in boots of cars! FFS how is that not relevant to a case where a blond girl has been strangled and put in the boot of a car?

I can't see how not knowing these things made for a fairer trial - seems completely unfair to me that the prime motive for his actions was withheld and it risked an unjust verdict based on ignorance of the facts.

ITA it was completely relevant and totally a game changer. I'm still stunned and horrified as I have been in a personal quandry all week with feeling very wrong about my opinions of guilt of murder vs manslaughter, I shudder to think if I were on this jury, maybe I would have felt sorry for his tears (as I am a damned sap) and I would have been one of the manslaughter voters, I think I would die if it was me and then they told everyone about the !! that was the missing link that made this all make (some sort of) sense!

Don't think you were the only one, I've read this response all over the internet since the verdict.

The Jury were still having issues with the intent /motive question prior to presenting their verdict, and required further guidance.

Yes, agreed. I think the judge played a blinder, he has been very careful to avoid giving any excuse for appeal. I don't feel anyone should be blaming the judge; rather blame the system that allows appeals on flimsy grounds. (How on earth, for instance, has that evil Robert Brown managed to swing an appeal? He should have gone down for murder in any case. :furious

I came in just as the verdict was announced so I've been catching up ever since. Haven't had time to 'like' any posts so please don't read anything into it :smile:

Yes, I too have pondered and puzzled over possible scenarios and motivations. Nothing seemed to fit the known facts. Of course, it all fits perfectly now. Something that nobody in their right mind could have imagined.

I see that someone tweeted about the information during the trial and is being referred to the Attourney General. Maybe that is how the info got on Facebook

Oh, where did you see that?

I did see the stuff on Facebook and also the original Twitter post, chap claimed to be a journalist and said it was inside info from A&S, but his account then vanished pdq. I don't recall the exact details but it didn't spell out that it was violent , I assumed it was the auto-erotic type thingy. So that was still a surprise.

The person who originally copied it on to FB had second thoughts and sensibly deleted it once s/he saw that it it been taken down from Twitter. It was the Admin of the site who reposted it. An arrogant and foolhardy thing to do. I wonder if s/he will also be hearing from the Attorney General

Thought I read via statements from court that either prosecution or defence said there was no other dna on her other then Tabaks, maybe I mistook that for another area. Does anyone else know, was there other dna on her clothes other than those she already knew.
