Found Deceased UK - Joanne Jones, 49, Pontypridd Wales, 21 October 2024

Latest update from South Wales Police Rhonnda Cynon Taf. New dashcam images with locations and times. Obviously everyone walks differently at different paces, have differing fitness levels etc and we don't know a precise route but the timings appear consistent with what you might expect it would take someone to walk between those two locations. Now phrasing her disappearance as causing serious concern rather than the initial 'keeping an open mind' line. Deeply worrying.

Llanwonno covers a large area. I suppose it depends how far into the area you go. Apparently she regularly took long walks. View attachment 540381
Yes, but look how far away that is from Pontypridd, and Vale Gardens is even further. She’s walking through the equivalent of several towns to get there? It’s gotta be 10 miles or so? Plus the mustering place for the rescue is at the Rugby Club, which is also a distance from Vale Gardens. They must have some idea she’s that far north?

It doesn’t look at all as though she was carrying sufficient for any kind of a long walk. Lunch? A hat?

Dead link.

I was able to enter the police dept name and get the update. She was spotted near Vale Gardens on Graigwen Road at, it looks like, 10:05, per video. At 12:45, after 2 3/4 hours of walking, she was spotted on Graigwen Road near the hotel in Ynysybwl. That means, IMO, she wasn’t at the woods yet.

Something else going on here than a hike in the woods, IMO, and she was wearing town boots, not walking boots, by the looks of the photo.

Where’s her dog?

The police have edited the appeal, and now say that the last sighting of Joanne was at Twyn Y Glog, Ynysybwl (rather than near the previously mentioned Brynffynon Hotel, Ynysybwl, and around 2 miles away from it as the crow flies).

Do we know that she had/has her dog with her? I can't see a dog in any of the photos from that day or that she's holding or carrying a lead.

Difficult to tell on the boots. They're certainly not robust hiking footwear but they may be enough for the trails and the roads she was on. Would be good to know which was she was heading in the second photo to see whether she was still heading out to the woods or coming back (assuming that was her destination on this trip). There's a lot that could be clarified on the info that's been given out.

Can you get cross country (i.e. through the woods) from Vale Gardens to the hotel? Or would you be going on the road?

If she has a dog, I would expect it to be with her on a woodland walk. She has a dog in photos.

There are no direct footpaths from Vale Gardens to the hotel (or to Twyn Y Glog - see my comment a few minutes earlier). My guess is that Joanne has stayed on the road for quite some time.

Comments on the police Facebook appeal suggest that Joanne does not have her dog with her.

That new location changes things quite a bit although going via the road makes most sense for both locations. There aren't any other options that make sense, you'd have to detour east.
If she was spotted at Twyn Y Glog then that's much more open land with farms and buildings around.

If this is her dog in the photo looks to be a small breed. Maybe unable to keep up with her pace or distance. Walking for almost 3 hours. Or a puppy who can only go for short walks. Just my observation

Pro tip: This article makes me want to issue a reminder.

Install what3words on your phone, and try it out to see how it works. It's free. It can be used to locate you very precisely if you have an issue, and anyone can understand it. No need for GPS coordinates, which are easily mis-conveyed.

I don't think it's been stated. I haven't seen it anywhere, and people have been asking on the facebook posts.
Thanks. It's odd that there has been no mention of her phone, and as she appeared to be going on quite a long walk you would of thought that she would have taken it with her. These days, when someone goes missing, the first thing usually reported is where and at what time they last used their phone.
