GUILTY UK - Jordan Monaghan murdered daughter (Ruby), son (Logan) & gf (Evie Adams), Blackburn, 2013 & 2019

This is one of the most complex and unfathomable cases ... this guy HAS to be a genuine psychopath, don't you think?

To view his own children as disposable just to aid his manipulation of their mother ... whilst also being a (apparently) successful business owner employing nearly a 100 people.
Wow! Yes I think you are right. What is his business? I did not know that part about employing 100 people!

Oh no. Why no reporting??

Thanks, I'd given up looking for any reporting on this. From the top link, I think this is the first indication of the cause of Evie's death:
_____

“In addition, the prosecution also say that he is responsible for the murder of his then partner Evie Adams in October 2019.

“Evie Adams died on October 24, 2019 from a fatal overdose of the prescription medicines Tramadol and Diazepam.

“The prosecution contend that he had illegally acquired the powerful prescription medicines and provided them to Ms Adams covertly over a number of days causing her death.”

Duncan Smith QC, prosecuting, told a jury at Preston Crown Court that both Ruby and Logan Monaghan had suffered a "collapse" but recovered prior to a final fatal event.

Both had been seen by medics in the days and months before their deaths but other than usual childhood illnesses no serious medical condition was found.

Three days before her death Miss Gray was upstairs when Monaghan called her down, saying Ruby was "breathing funny".

In the early hours of New Year's Day, Ruby's mother was woken up by the defendant downstairs, shouting "You need to get down. I don't think Ruby is breathing".

The trial was adjourned, with the prosecution opening continuing on Wednesday.

Lancashire Telegraph refers to prosecutor as Andrew Smith QC, Mirror and BBC refer to him as Duncan Smith QC.

I'm wondering if it's Andrew Duncan Smith QC.

Andrew Smith QC - St Philips "He has significant experience of homicide cases ranging from the deaths of babies and young children..."

Yes, I’d say it’s him too. Perhaps they are taking Duncan Smith as the surname, like the politician

Another report from yesterday -

"Their first child, Logan was born in November 2011 with their daughter Ruby being born in December 2012. [...]

[...] However he [Logan] was first admitted to hospital with a suspected paracetamol overdose after Ms Grey tried to end the relationship on September 23 2012.

Monaghan claimed the tot had climbed up the mantlepiece and swallowed the tablets, but doctors found nothing wrong with him and no evidence of an overdose, said Mr Smith QC.

After Logan was discharged, Ms Grey agreed to give the relationship another chance and they went on to have Ruby on December 8 2013. [should be 2012]

[...]

But as Ms Grey and her sister Michaela sorted Ruby's bedroom out, Monaghan called them again.

Ms Grey went downstairs to find her daughter lying on a playmat with a blue tinge to her lips. However, she once again made a rapid recovery and at 12:30am - after seeing in the New Year together, Ms Grey went to bed.

Monaghan said he would stay up and give Ruby the feed she was due at 2am but shortly before the feed was due, Monaghan woke Ms Grey telling her: "You need to get down. I don't think Ruby's breathing."

Paramedics rushed to the house and found Ruby was in cardiac respiratory arrest. She never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at 2:25am.

[...]

On July 26 Ms Grey tried again to end the relationship but the following day she was called back from an outing by Monaghan, who told her: "Logan's just collapsed. He's gone all floppy."

Logan was taken to hospital, with Monaghan reporting he had "fallen into the sofa" but was discharged on July 28.

On August 16, the day before Logan's death, Ms Grey discovered Monaghan had run up gambling debts "in the thousands" and had not paid their rent.

She secretly followed Monaghan as he visited two cash machines and withdrew money from secret accounts he had opened.

She confronted Monaghan, telling him: "I'm absolutely sick of it" before returning home to bed, and texting Monaghan telling him not to disturb her.

Monaghan replied: "Just think what you are doing. I love you and you love me. I don't want to lose you."

Today's proceedings -

Little boy found dead in buggy after triple murder accused dad took him to Waves

“Before he went out again Monaghan asked Ms Gray if she had woken Logan – she said no and then said that he could wake him if he wished,” Mr Smith QC continued.

“He said he wouldn’t as he didn’t want him to be in a bad mood. He asked Ms Gray to wake him while he was out. He was out for a few minutes and returned with some paints.”

As he walked into the house he asked Ms Gray why [she] he had not woken the child. He then waited a few moments before leaving the house for a third time saying he would go to the pizza shop once more, again asking his ex to wake the child.

[...]

Mr Smith said a post-mortem by a forensic pathologist concluded that there was no evidence Logan had been subjected to an assault, however his brain was found to be ‘remarkably swollen and large’

Ms Grey said Logan's death brought her closer to Monaghan again and the couple reconciled.

However a third child then went on to collapse on two separate occasions in Monaghan's care.

Mr Smith QC said on two separate occasions the child was taken to hospital but made a full recovery. Extensive tests were carried out by cardiologists, neurologists, geneticists and experts in respiratory and paediatric medicine.

The doctors were unable to find any medical cause of the child's collapses but agreed it was "highly likely" the child had been smothered.

In addition they noted the child had not suffered any episodes of collapse while in the care of any other adult.

Experts went on to review the medical evidence in relation to the deaths of Ruby and Logan.

They were unable to find any medical or genetic abnormalities which would have caused the sudden unexpected deaths of the babies.

Dr Cory, a Home Office Pathologist who reviewed the findings, said the lack of any medical explanations for the children's collapses "provided compelling evidence" to support a theory that there was "interference with the natural mechanisms of breathing."

[...]

The defendant also denies murdering his former girlfriend Evie Adams. The jury will hear an outline of the prosecution's case relating to her death this afternoon.

How did it take 5 years, after the attempted smothering of baby no.3, to charge him?

Free to walk the streets, and murder Evie?! This is shocking.

That's a very long opening statement, and he hasn't even finished yet.

I can only think there's a lot more detail than is reflected in the reporting.

A ten week trial must mean a lot of witness evidence to get through.

Mr Smith QC said mobile phone evidence showed Monaghan travelled to meet another group member with the intention of buying diazepam and pregabalin.

He said: "The prosecution anticipated Monaghan will say any use of his WhatsApp account relating to the seeking and obtaining of prescription drugs was by someone other than him."

From your link Legally.

Selective whatsapp impersonation. :p

Slightly differing stories about the afternoon Logan died, I'm wondering if Jordan pressured her into changing some details, especially at the inquest -

Aug 2013 report (11 days after he died) - no mention of him arriving back home already asleep in his buggy -

'He went for his nap and just didn't wake up,' she said. 'He woke up in the morning absolutely fine, and he was playing around. There was nothing wrong with him whatsoever.

'He went for his afternoon sleep as normal. I went in to wake him up and found him like that. I knew when I looked at him, I knew he'd passed away."

Apr 2014 (8 months after) - detail about trip to park and LG being ill in bed not in trial reporting -

"The inquest heard the couple had rowed over money on the morning of August 17 before Mr Monaghan took Logan out in his pram to Mill Hill Park and then to Waves swimming pool.

After arriving home, Logan was left sleeping in his pram for five hours while Mr Monaghan, an excavator driver, ran errands and Miss Gray was upstairs in bed ill, the hearing was told.

Miss Gray told the inquest she went downstairs to give the tot some food and found him unresponsive.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital but was pronounced dead."

Today - five hours has shortened to one and a half hours -

"Mr Monaghan took the child into the changing rooms but left with him at about 14:30 BST on 17 August 2013, about half an hour after arriving, without having had a swim.

Back home he told the child's mother, Laura Gray, the boy had been "fine" but did not go swimming because he had forgotten to take swimming trunks.

He said their son was now sleeping, the court heard.

But at shortly before 16:00 BST Miss Gray, 28, went to check on her son who was still in his buggy.

Duncan Smith QC, prosecuting, told the court: "She lifted up the rain cover and immediately knew something was wrong.

"Logan was not breathing. He was a very pale colour.

"Miss Gray instinctively realised Logan was dead."

She rang for an ambulance, but paramedics could find no signs of life and resuscitation attempts in hospital were unsuccessful."
