There are serious concerns for the welfare of Joshua.

Officers are concerned for the safety of missing Matlock man Joshua Jones. He was seen by various witnesses later that day 3.30 pm on the 12th December on Matlock Road hitchhiking with a sign “Chesterield”

Joshua was last seen in the Hurst Road area at 11.30am today (12 December) wearing a pair of blue jeans, a grey Superdry coat which is darker on the sleeves with a hood that is green on the inside.

It is believed that Joshua was seen on Old Road, walking towards Matlock, at around 6pm.

Anyone who has seen Joshua, or has any idea of his current location, please contact Derbyshire police using any of the below methods and including incident 518 of today:

• Facebook – send us a private message to /DerbyshireConstabulary
• Twitter – direct message our contact centre on @DerPolContact
• Website – complete the online contact form www.derbyshire.police.uk/Contact-Us.
• Phone – call us on 101.

We have identified people who may have seen missing Matlock man Joshua Jones on the day he was last seen and we are urging them to come forward.

Our officers have been working hard to trace Joshua’s movements on Saturday 12 December.

We have already released CCTV images of him in the shop Boyes in Matlock at about noon that day but people have now come forward with sightings of someone we believe may be Joshua and this has led to new lines of inquiry.

A witness saw a man matching Joshua’s description walking along Wirestone Lane, close to the junction with Amber Lane, sometime between 3.55pm and 4.10pm.

The witness recalls seeing several people on dirt bikes and mountain bikes in the area, as well as a large van and a few cars parked in the layby. This group could be part of a cycling club and they may also have seen the man we believe could be Joshua.

We know a small black car, driven by a woman, passed by and that she needed to break suddenly as the man crossed her path.

There were also people visiting Matlock Farm Park, which is on Wirestone Lane.

We would like to hear from anyone in the area at that time who may have seen a man matching Joshua’s description. You may have been one of the bikers, or the woman who was forced to break. Perhaps you were parked on Wirestone Lane, or were leaving Matlock Farm Park.

Any information you have, however small it may be, could help us find Joshua.

Joshua was last seen wearing a pair of blue jeans, a grey Superdry coat which is darker on the sleeves with a hood that is bright green on the inside.

We are very concerned about his safety and we are urging anyone who has seen Joshua to contact us, quoting reference 518 of 12 December:

• Facebook – send us a private message to this page
• Twitter – direct message our contact centre on @DerPolContact
• Website – complete the online contact form www.derbyshire.police.uk/Contact-Us.
• Phone – call us on 101.

Snipped by me for focus.

Do we know if this means Old Road in Chesterfield? There is also an Old Road in Darley Dale, which is only about 2 miles from Matlock.

Why is every report saying that his jacket has darker sleeves? The CCTV clips show that the sleeves are lighter than the body of the jacket.

I would of thought Darley Dale as there are loads of sightings with him hitchhiking with a sign Chesterfield around 3-4pm around Wirestone lane and there was time to walk to Darley Dale for the 6pm.

Clearer CCTV has been released about Joshua.

I would of thought Darley Dale, as loads of sightings hitchhiking around Wirestone lane 3-4pm and could easily walk to Darley Dale for 6pm. I havent heard of any potential sightings in Chesterfield.

Officers searching for missing Joshua Jones have ruled out a man hitchhiking in the Matlock area as being Joshua.

Following Joshua leaving his home in Hurst Rise at 11.30am on Saturday 12 December the force has received multiple calls regarding a man matching his description hitchhiking towards Chesterfield that afternoon.

After extensive enquiries officers have now been able to rule out the hitchhiker as being the 29-year-old.

Joshua, who was seen on CCTV in Matlock town centre at the Boyes shop at around noon on 12 December, was last seen wearing a pair of blue jeans, a grey Superdry coat which is darker on the sleeves with a hood that is bright green on the inside.

Officers are still very keen to hear from anyone who may have information, no matter how small, in relation to Joshua’s disappearance and would ask anyone with details to contact the force using any of the below methods, quoting reference 518 of 12 December:

Hi there, I am roughly local to this area and noticed one of the missing persons posters for this man while walking a couple of days ago. Newly made account for this reason.
upload_2021-1-2_17-39-35.png

I notice in the reporting that the sighting of a man matching his description hitchhiking on the A632 to chesterfield (holding a sign saying chesterfield) has been ruled out as being him. However, I would like to clarify that another sighting of a man matching his description on wirestone lane, near it's junction with Amber lane and the A632 (3-4pm) has not. Is this accurate?

If so these would be roughly his movements: Hurst Rise, Matlock to Wirestone Ln, Chesterfield - Google Maps

Given that the reported sighting on the A632 has been ruled out, he may or may not have gotten to wirestone lane via the A632, as there are multiple paths across Matlock moor that he could've used, leading to a mutch longer walk. See: OS Maps: online mapping and walking, running and cycling routes (ordnancesurvey.co.uk)

The wife of missing Matlock man Joshua Jones appeals for him to make contact
16:15 23/12/2020
The wife of Joshua Jones, who has gone missing from his home in Matlock, is urging him to make contact. Talia Jones is also asking anyone who has seen 29-year-old Joshua to come forward and tell police of the sighting. Officers have been working hard to trace Joshua’s movements since he left his home in Hurst Rise at 11.30am on Saturday 12 December.

Now Mrs Jones, who has a young son with Joshua, is urging him to make contact and let his family know he is safe. She said: “I want him to know there is no pressure on him to come home if he doesn’t want to. “If he could just make contact with me or his mum and dad because we just want to know he is safe, that’s all that matters. “No one is angry or upset with him. We just love him and need to hear that he is OK.”

Officers know that Joshua was in Sainsbury’s in Matlock at 12.19pm on Saturday 12 December, having been in the Boyes shop at around noon. We have CCTV images of him leaving Sainsbury’s and we believe he may have been carrying an orange Sainsbury’s carrier bag. We have produced leaflets using these CCTV images and officers have been out in the town distributing the leaflets as part of our search. Joshua was wearing a pair of blue jeans that day, together with a grey Superdry coat which is darker on the body with lighter grey sleeves. The coat has a hood that is bright green on the inside.

Officers are still very keen to hear from anyone who may have information, no matter how small, in relation to Joshua’s disappearance and would ask anyone with details to contact the force using any of the below methods, quoting reference 518 of 12 December:

Please get in touch for Christmas, begs wife of missing Derbyshire man

Mum’s emotional plea for missing Derbyshire man with young son to return home
Tuesday, 15th December 2020, 2:30 pm

"He's a wonderful young man, brilliant father, husband. This is so unlike him...it's just not like him at all. "Just come back, Josh. We're all just absolutely beside ourselves. Frantic, we're worried."

There have been potential sightings according to some comments under the post. I hope at least one of these tips helps them to find Joshua.

We are renewing our appeal for information about Joshua Jones, who has now been missing from his Matlock home for a month. Joshua left his home in Hurst Rise at 11.30am on Saturday 12 December. We are asking people in neighbouring counties to share this appeal, as Joshua may have travelled outside of Derbyshire.

Joshua was wearing a pair of blue jeans that day, together with a grey Superdry coat which is darker on the body with lighter grey sleeves. The coat has a hood that is bright green on the inside. Officers have been checking CCTV in the town, reviewing dash cam footage, distributing leaflets in the area and following up reported sightings of Joshua.

We are grateful to everyone who has contacted us about Joshua in the last month and we would urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact the force using any of the below methods, quoting reference 518 of 12 December:
• Facebook – send us a private message to /DerbyshireConstabulary

Renewed Appeal From Wife Of Missing Matlock Man Joshua Jones To Make Contact
2 weeks ago

Mrs Jones, who has a young son with Joshua, again urged him to make contact and let his family know he is safe. She said: “I want him to know there is no pressure on him to come home if he doesn’t want to”. “No one is angry or upset with him. We just love him and need to hear that he is OK.”

Another couple of weeks have passed and it still looks like Josh is missing from home :(

Are you hearing anything from locals on what they think has happened here @cartzo ?

Slightly off topic... but I have to say that Derbyshire Police really knows how to use social media. Their FB is extremely informative and effectively managed. Their updates on this and other cases, prosecutions, local police matters etc, are comprehensive, clear and really well done, and there is plenty of community engagement with the comments and shares. A great model for other law enforcement agencies.

I'm afraid not Bancam, sorry. I do not normally live in derbyshire, but grew up there and was visiting when i initially heard about this unfortunate case. We of course have no idea as to how Joshua's home life was in the days leading up to his disappearance, i can only offer my very uninformed assumption (based only on where he was last seen and possibly how he might've got there), which is that he likely headed out into the moors for his own reasons. If there were to be any kind of search, that is where i'd look first. But i don't think this is the kind of case that police are willing to conduct a manual search for, especially not across an environment like that. If he came anywhere out of the moors, there are many different roads he could have walked (or hitchhiked) down to many different places. Apologies if what i'm writing here is crossing the line in terms of too much speculation.

I'm not normally one for online sleuthing, this case caught my attention because it was close to home and because so little seems to be known. Seems we can only hope and wait at this point, either for more information or for him to turn up.

Thanks for that, your own opinion and assumptions are fine here. We can all only really speculate until, as you say, more info comes to light. A sad situation for him to still be missing, he doesn’t look like a bad bloke. Let’s hope for a positive outcome.

I follow the find Josh group and i dont Know much either. My opinion is its an out of character disappearance. Josh had a job as a bin man, seamed to enjoy it and has a beautiful wife and young daughter. Josh used his phone only which he took so not been able t9 find any searches from thst. All those sightings of the hitchiker, wirestone lane etc were not Josh. Only cctv Sainsburys last sighting. The family know what Josh bought in Sainsburys but despite numerous people asking this info is not been made public. I also dont know if the hitchhiker has been tracked down to see if he saw anything. I know the hitchhiker is not Josh (Josh wife has confirmed this). However quite a few witnesses thought it was Josh and the odds of a hitchhiker who is seen the same afternoon Josh disappears must be quite big. The town of Matlock with a population of less than 10,000. In my experience seeing hitchikers particularly not near motorways to be very rare. I have thought wether it was a decoy in anyway. Thats my musings, i wish i had more firm opinions.

Really interesting... particularly the police and family’s knowledge of what items he purchased but not making this public.
