Some local news sources:

Murder probe launched after body found on farm track

Pictures show forensics at 'unexplained' death scene near Bedford

The body was found in fields just off a farm track off Turvey Road, between the villages of Carlton and Turvey. This is just north of the main A428 road between Bedford and Northampton, not far from the Great Ouse.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit have opened a murder enquiry, and are asking for anyone walking in the fields last week to come forward, also also people who may have been driving along Carlton Road into Turvey Road, or who used a layby or garage in the surrounding area on Wednesday or Thursday (30 June or 1 July) to share their dash cam footage.

The enquiry is codenamed Operation Helianthus.

Pretty good hunch, I think you may be right.

It's said it was a body that was found.

Would they say that if it was someone who disappeared seven months ago.

I may be totally wrong. I believe the body has been identified, so we should know soon.

Murder probe launched after man's body found dumped in field in Bedfordshire

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit are treating his death as murder.

His next of kin have been informed, but the police say formal identification has yet to take place.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Hall, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this difficult time.

He actually disappeared in 2018, so definitely would not have been declared dead at the scene if he'd been dead for 3 years. Unless he was put in a deep freeze.

The fact of death is always certified at the scene, whether the body is fresh or decomposed, although the appeal for dashcam footage suggests a fresh, or at least freshly dumped, body to me (i.e. not, for instance, human remains unearthed by agricultural machinery).

Kamil Biecke went missing in December 2018 but police were searching for him in the Luton area as recently as 5 or 6 months ago, so it's possible he was still alive until recently - or indeed even that he's still alive now. It was just an idle punt anyway. I'm probably wrong.

Well, I was half right. ;)

From Beds Police official fb feed:

The family of a man whose body was found in Carlton have described him as ‘cheerful and affectionate’.

Kamil Leszczynski, 33, of Knox Road, Wellingborough, was discovered on Thursday (1 July) at approximately 4.30pm close to a farm track in fields off Turvey Road between the villages of Carlton and Turvey.

Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit have launched an investigation, and they are treating his death as murder.

Today, Mr Leszczynski’s family said: “Kamil was a wonderful person and a wonderful brother.

“He was a cheerful and affectionate man. He loved his sister, and was always caring and supportive of her.

When did the identified man go missing? And is the same first name just coincidence, i.e not the same person as suggested missing from some time back?

It's a coincidence. I heard a whisper and made an educated guess - a wrong one as it turned out. Sorry to have created a distraction.

The man identified lived very locally me, nothing in the wellingborough chatter that is helpful so far.

OK here is some local info, not sure how helpful any of it is.

There were comments on social media a couple of days ago about a murder "on Knox Road" but with no confirmation this looked like idle chatter. It now appears the police has already identified the victim as unlikely to be a coincidence?

A friend commented on the police post that he knew something was wrong when he didn't hear from Kamil. Police asked the friend to get on touch and they said they already had.

There was an initiative by police and council earlier this year to gate the alleyways in and around Knox Road due to crime. The alleyway next to Kamil's address has not been included in this scheme and you can access the back garden from here.

Hope this is all within the posting rules, long time lurker.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Is it just me or is this not very clear? Are they saying they arrested the man in one of the villages near where the body was found, or did they search the area and then arrest the man later at an undisclosed location?

What an odd thing for them to report. The location where his body was found is less than 10 miles from Wellingborough, where he lived. The fact that there's a county border between the two doesn't make it 'not local'.

True it's not far away at all really, but at the same time it's quite out of the way. I've not heard of either village, despite only living a few miles away, and if I turned up there my family would say I had no business being out there... Hope I'm making sense!
