Police examine knife found in canal

Police forensic investigators in Scotland are on Friday examining a knife recovered from a canal near where Karen Buckley is believed to have been killed.

Police divers recovered the kitchen knife from a section of the Forth and Clyde Canal during a carefully co-ordinated search of a section of the canal on Thursday.

A postmortem was carried out on Ms Buckley’s body at a Glasgow hospital yesterday but police have not disclosed its results or given any indication as to how Ms Buckley was killed.

However, it is believed to add significantly to their investigation

The Procurator Fiscal in Glasgow has received a report regarding a 21 year old male arrested as part of the Karen Buckley investigation.

Long time observer here new poster, Ive travelled the world and lived in Glasgow for a year and I also have a sister of a similar age to Karen who is also a nurse travelling the world. So this case has struck a cord with me and a lot of other people, another young Irish woman being murdered out foreign like Nicola Furlong, Michaela Harte and Jill Meagher.The case of Karen is so sad, seems that she had the misfortune to bump into a horrific monster. I see this mornings papers showing a picture of what looks to be a kitchen knife being pulled from a canal near AP home. RIP Karen may your gentle soul rest in peace.

Her friends have told police that while Ms Buckley had been drinking, she was not drunk when she went to the toilet around 1am but failed to return to go home with them.
According to one source, her friends thought that it was so out of character for Ms Buckley that they feared her drink had been spiked. It is understood the glass she was drinking from has been recovered by police.

If its true the police have Karen's glass then that's extremely efficient police work given she wasn't reported missing til 5amm and the club would have closed and probably washed up by then.

I'm going to be dragged away soon but just noticed the hearing is private so I wouldn't be able to update with media tweets anyhow. How will the public know what was said if media are barred? Will the PF make a statement after?

Police havent' released anything about the post mortem results, but Police are stressing this is a live investigation and they have extended the cordon around the farm to a near by field.

The photo of that kitchen knife is chilling. There's no good reason for a new-looking knife to be in a canal that I can think of. Just horrible.
