Will we hear anything about yesterday's hearing or is it closed from media?

It was a short private hearing yesterday he entered no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

"The 21-year-old Pacteau appeared in the dock at a private court appearance today for the second time for a full committal hearing.

Pacteau, from the city's west end, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody by sheriff Kenneth Hogg.

It is expected he will stand trial later this year."

Karen is going back to Ireland tomorrow and her funeral is on Tuesday.

"TRAGIC Glasgow student Karen Buckley’s parents will finally get to take their daughter’s body home to Ireland this weekend.

The 24-year-old's corpse was released late this afternoon after a second post mortem in Glasgow.

Her parents could travel back to her home at Mourneabbey in north Cork as early as tomorrow morning with her, reports our sister paper the Irish Mirror .

Members of Karen’s family will accompany the body on the flight from Glasgow.

The news comes as her family announced her funeral will take place on Tuesday in her hometown."

All the MSM reports I have read state that AP was under no obligation to enter a plea at yesterday's hearing.

Does this mean that he could have entered a plea ? I cant find anything that answers that question.

Also, I see that the 110 day rule is the date by which the Preliminary Hearing is held ..........at which point AP does have to enter a plea.

So if, at the Preliminary, AP pleads not guilty, then the trial will be at a future date, which could even be next year ?

The counting all starts from the committal hearing as far as I can see. An indictment must be made no later that 80 days from the committal hearing, the preliminary hearing must be no more that 110 days from the committal hearing and the full trial must be no more than 140 days from the committal hearing.

The body of Karen was flown back to Cork from Scotland by special flight shortly after 2.30pm today.The remains arrived at Cork Airport from Glasgow by a special Aer Lingus-Stobart Air flight which also carried Karen’s heartbroken parents, John and Marion , and her brothers, Brendan , Kieran and Damien.In a gesture of support, the airline is understood to be footing the bulk of the repatriation costs for the devastated Irish family.Karen’s body was brought back to her farmhouse home in north Cork exactly two weeks after her death in Glasgow.
So glad that Karen is back with her family, I hope the media will now stay away from the funeral and let Karens family and friends grieve for her.

"THE emotional funeral of murdered Karen Buckley has been told of the indescribable hurt and pain wreaked on her devastated family by an utterly inappropriate death.

Amid heartbreaking scenes in her native Mourneabbey, near Mallow, Co Cork, the tragic student's brothers placed a poignant photograph of her as a child starting school, as well as her nurse uniform, by her coffin.

Parish priest Fr Joe O'Keeffe told mourners, led by her parents John, 62, and Marian, 61, and brothers Brendan, 32, Kieran, 28, and Damien, 27, that now was a time of tears.

As well as being a young woman, Miss Buckley, 24, was a friend, cousin, niece, sister-in-law, sister, and a child, he said

To her parents in particular it was most difficult to see their only daughter travel from "the cradle to the coffin", he told them."

Heartbreaking scenes at Karens funeral, her family have went through so much in the past few weeks. I hope that a guilty plea will be entered and they are spared the trauma of a trial, however I fear this will not be the case.

He said that in November 2011 Pacteau was involved in a serious car crash and was put in an induced coma for three to four weeks and suffered a broken hip and ribs. The court was told he could not walk for six months and was on crutches for a year afterwards.

The lawyer said that after getting out of hospital and staying with his father for a time, Pacteau got his own flat and, unable to work, received disability living allowance.

You are missing the point.

This isn't victim blaming, it's 101 sensitive advice about how not to become a victim. Like it or not, as women, we have to be more aware of our surroundings and the positions we place ourselves into. I would rather not have that extra drink, and not leave the bad with the weird guy, than do so and end up raped. Ok, it was his fault for raping me, but is that really any consolation?

It's like when women are criticised for what they wear when they have been raped. It's ridiculous. It's basically separating victims into worthy and not worthy status. Whether a victim is drunk, on drugs, dressed provocatively whatever, that's not what should be highlighted ever. That's excusing the actions of the perpetrator and laying blame on the victim.

It's your responsibility to keep yourself safe. I'm not blaming the victim. If you don't watch out, You're going to run into something nasty. When you put yourself into a bad situation, the only one to blame would be who? Maybe you. Hope I did this correctly, first time posting a quote!!
As a rape survivor (who, incidentally was criticized for jogging alone), I personally don't see this as victim blaming, We All learn in different ways that the world can be a dangerous place. Young people can do things that seem foolhardy to others, but they are learning by living life (and didn't we all feel indestructible when we were young. What I see people saying is not tto blame Karen, but maybe use her sad tale to caution others to perhaps try to be more aware of surroundings, etc, None of this will help Karen, but maybe her story will make others to stop and maybe assess a situation more carefully. Another person may have done the exact things that Karen did, without having any alcohol on board.
I think we really just want the best for our children and want to try to help them maneuver life more cautiously without locking them up. I guess I want to see this as a chance for Karen's death to help someone, not to criticize what she did or didn't do, but maybe to remind others that maybe hesitating and taking time to evaluate a situation could be a good thing.

Just a little OT...I was born and raised in Glasgow (Castlemilk) and return quite often. It was heartwarming to see the thought and concern for Karen and her family,

I am not blaming the victim, it's not her fault that some sick @ss hole ended her life. I'm saying it's up to you to make yourself safe. I spent a lifetime living in Chicago and years on the road. If you don't keep your wits about you something bad will happen. That part is your choice, you've got a brain use it and protect yourself. Thank God I've left that area and live in a smaller town now, it's still insanity just on a smaller scale. No matter where you live there are bad people that will take advantage of whatever or whoever they can. I don't remember one post here where someone said that it was her fault. A little part of me dies whenever I see Found Deceased in the headings here. Save the next girl, guy, yourself...

I don't agree that the victim should be blamed at all. It is always the predator who is at fault. I do think that people can learn to protect themselves better though and that is why I recommend reading books like The Gift of Fear. There are predators out there who will take advantage of vulnerable people. We can also teach our children to help keep themselves safer. Unfortunately even people that do everything to keep themselves safe still suffer from predatory crime but it will definitely cut your chances of being a victim if you follow some practical and sensible advice.
