Thank you!

So where she would have entered the lift, which level, and what options would she have had on leaving lift at either?

I don't know the area so I'm just going on what I can see from maps and street view. It looks like there are bridges that you can walk along to get there. I'm presuming Karen will have walked from her home, down Fleming Road, past the Scottish Episcopal Church, along the bridge over St Mungo's Road, across the car park and across the bridge over Central Way, then into the lift to get out onto Tryst Road. That would mean though, that whatever the building is that is connected to that bridge is accessible at all hours of the day at night. If it's a car park structure then it would make sense.

Anyone with local knowledge able to clarify?

Could she have had a rendezvous with someone in a car in the car park? She seems to have taken a planned route, rather than a ramble without concentration, since she leaves there then heads towards the Muirfield Centre.

Just a few musings on this, and I'm not really sure where I am going with any of them:

  1. The McDonald's (which effectively occupies part of the Asda car-park) is open 24 hours per day.
  2. I feel that Karen is more likely to have used the lift to go up rather than down.
  3. The distance between the lift (where Karen was seen at 02:44) and where she was last seen at 02:55 is less than 400 metres, which should have taken around 6 minutes to walk, not the 11 minutes that it actually took. I appreciate that there are variables and inaccuracies that can have a bearing here.
My gut feeling is that there has been a rendezvous of some sort, or a planned rendezvous that didn't actually happen. Hopefully more CCTV footage will come to light.

Very strange time to head out to the shops! Was anyone else at home when she left? Maybe a drug deal or hook up gone wrong? Not much info out yet. Hoping for a good outcome.

i know that area well.
My partner is from that area
Shes left at an unusual time
mcds is opened 24/7
she's went back on herself it seems from where she came from home and last sightings.
I feel Karen has either left to meet someone or get something
or
shes left after an argument or fall out
i know she has a parnter but i know nothing about who reported her and what time apart from 12am to 8am although she was seen 2:44am in lift it doesn't take 2 hours to get to that lift from her home
(shopping centre lifts are not accessible at that time so i take it as the car park lift which is open all night or that time anyway.
then Flemming brown road 10 mins after that
Ravenswoods is there...was she heading back home?

I feel like she was heading back home because that's what the direction of travel suggests. I hadn't thought about the possibility she'd gone out after an argument.. Could she have made it home? If she didn't, was she intercepted on the way? Does Karen have a car?

I'm presuming the midnight - 8.30am time frame is from a partner. For example, if partner went to bed at midnight and woke up at 8.30am and realised Karen was missing.

Hmmm MOO

I'm sure she would have had to walk past the police station which is just across from the Muirfield Centre on the route she took. The lift is near to Fleming House North Lanarkshire Council Housing association offices.

there are so many small paths and other ways she would would not have had to walk past the police station x

I can't see, if the shopping centre was her intended destination, why she didn't go back home the same way she came?

This route she took from home via the shop centre to around the Muirfield Centre, would that be a quick cut known to locals, or a roundabout route that would only be used if actually stopping off there?

The town center car park is open 24/7 she is in that lift for a reason having going somewhere or just there for no reason at all. It's 30+ mins walk (maybe faster or slower depends on who and how they are walking) from her home area if Lairds Hill. She could have cut through the HM Revenue place and other routes to the car park (im assuming it's the car park as no other public lifts are avail at that time. Then if in brown road flemming road near the community center its not really a way back home as she has went the wrong direction to be heading back home ...it doesn't seem like shes walking about aimlessly though.

I know the area.

police have been questioning all houses in the area and searching peoples gardens/sheds, obtaining any cctv/doorbell footage.

they have had police helicopters out, sniffer dogs etc. There are a lot of woods and bushes in the area, and heavy dog Walker activity,

<modsnip -no links>

there would be multiple pathways to get to/from her home so lots of avenues to explore

I doubt she would have been meeting someone as her route doesn’t make any sense and isn’t clear, but I’m not sure it can be ruled out entirely

Also worthy of note is that there is a nightclub called Submarine which is about .. 2 minutes away from where Karen was last seen.
It closes at 3am and people are usually told to leave around 2:35/2:40ish
There could be people that walked along the path to muirfield at that time, and there would have been people generally in the area, but most get picked up from the car park or at Mungos stairs.. but it’s not impossible that someone could have saw/interacted with her at that time of night

Friends of a woman missing from Cumbernauld are appealing for her to come home.

Karen Stevenson was last seen in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It's thought the 42 year-old made her way towards the town centre and was spotted on CCTV in a lift at a shopping centre near Tryst Road.

Police believe she then walked towards Muirfield Community Centre near Brown Road and Fleming Road and was there around 2.55am.

Childhood friend Nicola Masterton told Clyde News: "I'm sure the police are doing everything that they can but we all wanted to as a community, as Karen's childhood friends, do what we can to get the story out there and get Karen home to her family, her children and her partner.

"Karen is just a lovely girl, she's quite shy and doesn't have social media and I know she would hate have her picture all over the place - this would be her worst nightmare. But if it gets her home safe then I would gladly have her shout and fall out with me, just to get her home safe.

"If Karen is listening then police call 101, contact the police. You maybe want some time to yourself and a bit of head space, I don't know, but if that is the case please just get in contact and let someone know you're okay.

"Likewise, if someone is with Karen and is helping Karen because she's not in a good place then please just call 101 just so her family know that she is safe."
