Found Deceased UK - Karen Stevenson, 42, left home overnight, Seafar, Cumbernauld, 19 Feb 2022

I don’t mean to be persnickety, I just get a little touchy about comments made about women walking at night etc. plus there are other options to explain it.

"Comments made about women?"
I'm a woman myself!
Plus, I was only commenting from my own experience and point of view: if I were that concerned about my safety, I wouldn't be out walking at 3am by myself when it's cold and dark and lonely, much less getting into a lift at car park in a deserted outdoor retail park.

Also, to note, she wasn't walking at night. The early hours of 2am - 3am are long beyond night and is a totally ungodly time, when late night places have shut, and early morning human activity has yet to start.
They are not really many 'other options' to explain why she may be walking about at this time, other than potential problems at home, mental health problems or a meeting that didn't go to plan.

MOO.

Ah, I’d say that’s still very much considered night time in Scotland at the weekend although you’re right about it strictly being very early hours of the morning. Clubs tend to close at 3am (bars between 11 and 1) so you’ll often find taxis around, people at shops/garages and takeaways (their McDonalds is 24 hours I believe), people walking home, people leaving parties. It’s not busy by any stretch of the imagination but it’s not completely quiet either.

There’s actually a club not far from where she was last seen. Submarine at St Mungo’s Walk. It would have closed at 3am.

EBM: have now checked and it was open, and it did close at 3am.

Thank you for this.

I would want to go back to prior 1am and what was going on at home.

Was her partner and children there, or were they away? Partner especially - did he see her leave, and if so did he question where she was going? Had she been upset about something, anxious or preoccupied during that day/evening? Did she suffer from any mental health problems?

None of this we know, so hard to rationalise this seemingly odd behaviour in the early hours of the morning.

100% this. Going on the theory that she went up in the lift gives us a general area that she has come from.

The lack of CCTV OF Karen at an earlier time *going* to where she went suggests she took a different route or even a taxi or lift from someone.

I will try and do another image later when I have more time that shows area's and possible routes.

The second of KS's children would seem to be no more than 12 or 13 months old at the time she disappeared. It occurred to me whether she had been suffering from post-partum psychosis, either recognised and receiving help for, or unrecognised?

Not sure I put much credence on the alleged Edinburgh sighting, unless seen by someone who knows her personally or picked up on camera and clearly verified as her. You always get at least a few every time someone is missing who state they saw a person who they were sure was them. Of course rarely is.

Yeah you are right about Seafar Road it is a main bus route but at that time of the morning or even just on a dark night people do walk along the grass at the side of it when going from one side to the other as some of the alternative routes are via underpasses or through paths flanked with trees and bushes on each side which for a lone female would not be appealing.

This is very true due to the unfortunate experimental design of the town it’s sadly much safer to walk on the main road than it is to take the footpaths (all paths are dimly lit and go through woods/underpasses I.e not safe)

I have walked the very road Karen was last seen on alone myself as a lone female at these times of night (when I was younger and couldn't afford taxis.. or couldn’t be bothered to wait for them)

For me, it’s where did she go to when she left the house, to end up at the back of Fleming house, coming up in the lift…? which way did she walk and was it the same way there and back?! I wonder if police have tried checking for earlier footage around the town centre buildings to see if she caught on camera earlier that could give clues as to where she had been/was headed

Locals are to search for missing Scot Karen Stevenson following her disappearance nearly three weeks ago.

The 42-year-old was last seen on Seafar Road, near McGregor Road in Cumbernauld, at around 3.15am on Saturday, February 19.

[...]

Locals are now being urged to join a search for Karen nearly three weeks on from when she first went missing.

Taking to social media, Nicola Masterson pleaded that she was looking for as many people as possible to come along.

She said: "Looking for help from as many people as possible from the local community, to help search for Karen.

"Please share this as much as possible in our local community pages so we can get as many people as possible to help.

"We have arranged a large coordinated community search with the blessing of Karen's family. We had been hoping to do this before now, but the police and family had asked us not to for various valid reasons...

[...]

The search will take place on Sunday, March 13, and begin at 9am from Greenfaulds Train Station in Cumbernauld.

She added: "The police have asked that people wear suitable clothing for searching, so walking or Wellington boots, or flat comfortable boots, if you have a high vis then please wear this if not, wear something that makes you visible..."

Locals to search for Karen Stevenson after disappearance nearly three weeks ago

Police are investigating a potential sighting of 42-year-old Karen Stevenson, missing from Cumbernauld, since Saturday, 19 February, 2022.

As part of the ongoing inquiry, police received a report that a woman, wearing a purple, black fur-hooded jacket was walking on the pathway, that backs onto Darroch Way, between 4.15am and 4.25am on Saturday, 19 February, 2022. As the woman in the purple jacket made her way through the underpass, which goes under Seafar Road, she passed another woman walking in the opposite direction.

There was no interaction between the two women and officers are keen to establish who the lady in the purple jacket is.

Inspector Susan Rae said: “We need to confirm if this was Karen or if it was another woman, perhaps on her way to work or heading home. If you were in the underpass between 4.15am and 4.25am on Saturday morning, wearing a purple, black fur-hooded jacket, please contact us. It’s vital we verify if this potential sighting was Karen or if we can rule it out as part of our ongoing enquiries to locate Karen.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3369 of 19 February.

Still calling out for this woman in the underpass to come forward. Surely someone would know if it sounds like them and at that hour of the morning?

Obviously they don't have CCTV from this 'report'?

Police are investigating a potential sighting of a missing mum-of-two who disappeared from her hometown of Cumbernauld nearly three weeks ago.

Karen Stevenson, 42, was last seen in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, February 19.

Police have received a report that a woman, wearing a purple, black fur-hooded jacket was walking on the pathway that backs onto Darroch Way between 4.15am and 4.25am that morning.

As the woman in the purple jacket made her way through the underpass, which goes under Seafar Road, she passed another woman walking in the opposite direction. There was no interaction between them, police said.

Detectives believe this is a potential sighting of Ms Stevenson, and are keen to establish who the lady in the purple jacket is.

Plea for woman in purple jacket to come forward in search for missing mum

Really sad update, RIP Karen.
On the morning of Sunday, 13 March, the body of a woman was found in the Glenboig Road area of Glasgow.

Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Karen Stevenson, who was reported missing from the Cumbernauld area on Saturday, 19 February, have been informed.

Enquiries into the death are at an early stage. It is currently being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

That is, what, a 2hr walk from where she started from?

Proves also what I said previously about the 'possible sighting' in Edinburgh - not to be relied upon.

On maps it says 2 hours + but reality much more tbh....it's a dodgy area wee town. Very sad although I do feel we dont know the full circumstances around Karen leaving home or that then her body being where it is but i do feel she has kept wondering and sadly her body given up :( x

I am Karens mum. The video on Seafar rd is NOT karen as we have already told police. This video was put on by her partners friends, 12 days after she disappeared.
The last official cctv shows Karen returning home. it would be impossible for Karen to walk 2miles round Cumbernauld then 9 miles or so to Glenboig.
It is an unlit country rd.
She was found in a cattle trough which is right on the road, suggesting a vehicle transported her there.
The road is very busy during the day.
Lorries, buses ,cars taxis, joggers, walkers and dog walkers.
It would have been impossible for Karen to be there unnoticed for 23 days.
