GUILTY UK - Katie Rough, 7, killed by teen, Woodthorpe, York, 10 Jan 2017

It's just horrific, can't imagine how her parents are feeling right now! RIP Katie!

I think a holiday park is equivalent to a campground with cabins here in US. If you search "holiday park, York, UK" they look quite nice. Also -- I believe UKers use the term "on holiday" like we Americans say "on vacation"

Does that help?

Yes! I didn't know if it was an amusement park, nature reserve, camp ground or what.

 • #143
Who called the police? The mother?

 • #144
Please translate for an American....what is a "holiday park"?

tia.
From my googleing it looks like it's what we refer to as a resort geared towards families.

I wonder where the 15 year olds mother is and who if anyone, is supporting her through the judicial process. Her father must feel absolutely broken. <modsnip>

Yes, but in this case think more fishing holidays, cabins and lakes

Thanks for the English-to-American translation, all!

I believe the news asked the mother for a statment but understandably she is too distraught. But the case of Becky Watts is definitely similar. It could also shine light on to a possible motive. <modsnip>

So she perhaps live with mother then? <modsnip>

do we know how far away they lived from the scene of the crime?
My guess is that this girl was walking Katie home from school so I thought they might not live very far hence the quick time the parents got there
I've seen an appeal where police have asked for any witnesses in very specific streets

Police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area of Morrell Court, Belhouse Way, Osprey Close and Alness Drive between 3pm and 5pm on Monday 9 January 2017.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.te...d-girl-york/amp/?client=ms-android-hms-tef-gb

This led me to believe at first that the family live in Morrell court, which made sense as one of the more direct ways from Morrell court to the playing field is via Belhouse way and osprey close. I thought perhaps they were going to have a play over the fields

However it's been reported since that they lived in tennent road which is some mile away further from Morrell court (although much closer to Katies school) and a bit of a trek from the field. The route suggested above would add on quite a bit of extra distance too if they were travelling from home as it's not the most direct way. So where were they coming from?

Police are looking for witnesses in those areas between 3 and 5pm. Why 3pm? Was neither child at school? If so how did they get from Katie school - Westfield primary to the vicinity of Morrell court so quickly? Even if they had a lift home I doubt they would have literally gone straight out again without getting changed, having a snack or whatnot so why the 3pm onwards time frame. Actually thinking about it I highly doubt school had finished at 3pm

Good observations.

Also-- any security cams catch them walking together or whatever ?
Not sure if the UK has them in smaller towns, though.

Maybe a local can tell us about school hours. I don't think 3pm is unreasonable for the end of day at school, but I don't live there.

Update; https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.mi...ie-rough-seven-hear-9605070.amp?client=safari

The 15-year-old is believed to have been under the care of a mental health team since her arrest.
Police had two 999 calls on Monday afternoon, it is claimed – one from Katie’s mum reporting her missing, the other allegedly from the accused teenager.
Police officers found little Katie lying “unresponsive” on a small field used as a football pitch.

It is understood that at 4.37pm on Monday a 999 call was made by the girl who stated Katie was dead but she did not know where she was. Police located the call to Alness Drive in York, where the girl had spoken to two members of the public who had taken her into their home.
She was said to have been in a distressed state. Police officers allegedly spoke to the girl and established Katie was on a small football field nearby.
North Yorkshire Police got a further call from Alison Rough, Katie’s mum, to say the youngster had been missing for 45 minutes.

Just checked school website - end of day is 3.05 or 3.15pm depending on what year Katie was in

Thanks.

Can someone remind me when Katie was found and/or when LE was called?

Post #157 has a clear indication of times...so perhaps there was no end destination in mind hence the haphazard route taken to the field and given the fact the 15 year old didn't know where they were...

The neighbours have told the news it was dark around that time so it would make sense. In the UK it typically gets dark around 4ish this time of year.

It wasn't quite dark at 4:30, but getting there, 10-15 minutes later it was dark.
