GUILTY UK - Katie Rough, 7, killed by teen, Woodthorpe, York, 10 Jan 2017

  • #341
I thought that the wedding photo that people are referring to here (the one reproduced in the press with the pixelated faces) might have shown the older half-sister (same mom) and not the step sister...

ETA: sorry I have not read every post so if this has been clarified, can someone please link me?

Two girls in grey dresses - one is Katie, other is mums daughters. One girl in white shirt & trousers - dads daughter.

They are both half-sisters, one has same mother, one has same father. Both are in the photo, athough some sources may have cropped it. The elder half-sister is an adult bridesmaid.

IMO The finally dynamic appears complex. The mother has written a bio describing the situation, but we are not permitted to post what we find on family members sites. It has been quoted in the press but not MSM as far as I'm aware.

IMO she may have been just a quiet, shy girl. Her school describes her headteacher stated: “Katie was a kind and thoughtful child who was well liked by both pupils and staff. She was hard working and showed a particular talent for creative writing."

They don't say she was talkative etc. Which isn't bad, she sounds like she was a very sweet little girl. She may have just not liked her picture taken. I guess as the case moves forward we will find out more. Maybe there was a history their which made her uncomfortable.

Like I said - she was probably feeling the cold in that sleeveless dress.

Oh I never saw that, good point. 28th of December it would have been very chilly for her.

Thanks to all for clarifying the family structure. I guess there is a photo I've missed.

What a sad situation...sometimes step-familes work just like the Brady bunch, but I think that it is rare. For many kids, especially those sensitive because of mental health issues, the transition is tough even more so if the split of parents has not been a amicable one. I have met some messed-up kids (and kids now grown) that carry around some heavy baggage from up-ended family situations.

I have attended two weddings in the past year that the Groom had a Lady as one of their grooms(wo)men.

The difference in the way they are dressed could be as simple as her standing with her dad as a grooms(wo)man rather than being a bridesmaid for her Stepmom. Granted, I am not in the UK so I don't know if it would be as common there as it has become here.

It's not common but it's a definite possibility, especially if the teen hates to wear dresses as many do!

EDIT - we don't really have groomsmen here, and she isn't old enough to be a Best (wo)man but she may be an honuorary one.

Perhaps, yes, that sounds very possible. I would expect her to be wearing a jacket though, and perhaps a tie, scarf or cravat, especially for a winter wedding. Of course she may have been wearing one earlier, took it off indoors and didn't put it back on.

I don't think there's a formal age requirement to be a 'best man', but 15 is quite old enough IMO.

It isn't old enough to sign the register as a witness, which the Best man tends to do.

Really? I thought anybody could be a witness, as long as they are old enough to understand what is happening. I've seen this question asked and answered on family history forums. Perhaps there has been more recent legislation, I must find out.

I suppose, it might have been expected that she was wearing the same bridesmaid dress as the other 2 daughters are, but it could be she didn't want to be bridesmaid.
She may have worn a dress and changed. A lot of people do that for various reasons. Often the dresses are just uncomfortable.

there's another picture (seems to be some sort of Christening) where she's again wearing shirt and trousers so don't think she was acting as a best man sort of thing

I just don't think what she's wearing is important or relevant to the crime. I have friends (gay and straight) who hate dresses or skirts. I have a family member who hates dresses so much, she got married to her husband in pants! Haha

The thread is open again for posting.

DO NOT sleuth and stalk family and friends in social media, and then talk about it here. What you tead on FB, remains on FB

Remember that the accused is a minor. Post with caution. Any and all allegations MUST be supported by a link to a legitimate news (MSM), or law enforcement source.

Again, individuals other than the accused are OFF LIMITS. No speculation. No FB stalking.

Is the photo of the 15 year old that is being discussed in MSM? Or is it just on FB? I have only seen it unedited on FB and that is off limits is it not?

I have seen it on MSM with all the faces pixellated out except for Katie and the parents. But I can't remember which papers now.

The Mirror and The Sun have previously posted the picture, blurring the faces but the outfits are clear.
