Poor kid.
Police say Surrey train stabbing victim was travelling with son, 14
A man who was stabbed to death on a London Waterloo-bound train was travelling with his 14-year-old son, police have said.

A 51-year-old man was pronounced dead after he received multiple stab wounds on the train travelling from Guildford, Surrey. A male suspect is still at large.

Supt Paul Langley, of British Transport Police (BTP), said: "The victim boarded the train at around 1pm at London Road station in Guildford along with his 14-year-old son.

"Traumatically, the victim's son would have been nearby when his father was fatally wounded.

Supt Langley said the suspect is a black man in his 20s to 30s, about 6ft tall, of slim build with a beard. He was said to be dressed all in black with white trainers.

He added: "At this moment, I would ask the public to contact police urgently by calling 999 if they see anyone matching this description. Please do not approach him.

"If you were on board the train, we need to hear from you as soon as possible, regardless if you saw what happened or not."

This is deeply saddening.

My heart goes out to his young son. This is so awful.

I hope the authorities find the monster who did this.

Hopefully there will be station/platform cctv footage of him arriving at the station and boarding the train and at the next station fleeing the train.

Dear Tortoise,

Great thinking! The cctv footage should help identify him.

Absolutely horrific. I suspect that the perpetrator may be mentally ill to kill a stranger in such a horrendous way.

Terrifying! My heart goes out to his son who had to witness the attack.

Stabbing attacks have become a big concern lately in the UK right?

They have in the cities, particularly in parts of London where gang (aka well 'ard kids) violence is on the increase. Thankfully, random fatal stabbings like this are still rare enough to make the headlines.

I can't believe that local people from the village where the killer fled are still out and about speaking to reporters. I'd be locked safely in my house. God knows what he'll do to evade capture.

I'm surprised nobody tackled him in the time it took for the train to come to a stop. Well not totally surprised, obviously he had a knife and was dangerous. But was there no security on board? Was police not already waiting at the next stop?

I think I might have taken a photo of him had I been there.

That's what I've been thinking. Most people have phones capable of filming.

No, there is no security on board British trains, sounds glib to say this in view of what's happened but it's not needed and wouldn't be financially viable.

Here's the timeline, it all happened within 6 minutes. I wonder if there was an argument or whether it was totally unprovoked. More will come out in the next few days and I've no doubt someone will have taken photos/video.

12.58pm- The South Western Train leaves Guildford, with London the final destination.
1.01pm- The victim, thought to be in his 50s, and attacker, board the train at London Road.
1.07pm- The attacker is thought to flee the train at Clandon.
1.11pm- The victim is found as the train pulls into Horsley.
1.15pm- Police officers are called to the to Horsley station after reports a man has been stabbed.

I wouldn't want to be the one caught filming a crazed knifeman in a confined space though...

Yes or filmed him. Maybe they still have to come forward.

At that time of the day (off peak) this train would have been very quiet as this is the stopping service from Guildford that takes over 1 hour to get to Waterloo, as opposed to the fast service which takes only 38 minutes. It leaves Guildford with only a few passengers on it, so I doubt there were even any witnesses or anyone to help. This train does have a guard however it has at least 8-10 coaches so the guard most likely won't have been in the coach where the incident happened. The guard was lucky not to be the victim, if reports of this being a "frenzied random attack" are true. My thoughts and prayers go to the family of the victim and the train crew who had to deal with the aftermath of this terrible incident.

So it's just over 4 miles on foot to go back to London Road, if that's where he lives. Who knows he might not live there.

I can't remember which paper it was but when I read this online earlier it said they had an argument and then the guy got a knife out and stabbed him.

This sounds like nobody saw the attack?
Except his son probably did. I think there were witnesses according to the description police have.
