Evidence of premeditation
The judge says that during the trial there was evidence of “premeditation”, but said “the picture is a complex one”.

She said the deaths were “not two carefully planned murders, but also not a young mother at the end of her tether, snapping and doing something in the heat of the moment.”

Does CD mean that he was trying to get custody but the system decided it was in the girls best interests to stay with their mother ?
That's a possibility. It would make more sense of their statements.

Hopefully she wont get out. 32 years is a long time but not long enough. Good enough for our sentences though.

Medical conditions
During the trial the jury asked if Porton had any medical conditions that could have played a factor in the case and the judge says that she has none.

She did say that Porton “struggled to make emotional attachments”, as well a struggling to “put needs of others before your own”.

With that, the sentencing hearing has now finished and Porton has been taken away from the court to begin her prison sentence.

Agree, it is a good sentence. I had feared it might be low, due to her young age and the no previous convictions line.
I think the lack of any medical condition supported the fact that she was simply a cold calculating killer.

Sounds like it, feel bad for asking why he'd not had more involvement. Maybe he'd been trying.

Bbm, nae kidding.

I'm pleased with the sentence. Hope she doesn't manage to smuggle a mobile in to top up her prison account ;)

14. During the trial, the jury asked questions about whether you would be subject to a medical assessment and whether you might have autism. You told the jury that you find it difficult to show your emotions and to form emotional attachments but there is absolutely no evidence that you suffer from any medical condition or mental disorder that might have impacted on your actions. As I would expect, your experienced legal team explored this possibility, but no expert evidence has been placed before the court. That is not to be held against you and I draw no inference beyond the fact that mental disorder is not a feature of your case.

BBM. The jury were obviously finding it hard to comprehend.

I was expecting about 20 years minimum so this is a nice surprise. Hope she doesn't start a gofundme for appeal funds!

Would be interesting to know how much involvement the dad ever had in these poor children's lives, if any.

They seemed like quite a ‘normal’ish couple at one point but I guess you never really know.

(Bold by me): As am I, I found the whole thing rather hard to believe, not helped by patchy reporting giving loads of detail about her behaviour and none about the actual evidence. I see from the sentencing remarks much more information than we got at the time, so can now believe it's true, but can't understand why? One shaken baby, yeah, I can understand that; of course it's wrong, but so easy to understand someone who just can't cope any more snapping and doing something terrible in the heat of the moment (I can't cope with the sound of crying babies; it sets off full-on fight-or-flight response in my brain so I know very well I'd be in danger of doing that myself, meaning I can feel sympathy for cases like that), but this isn't that, and I can't comprehend the coldbloodedness of it.

If the children were affecting her lifestyle, as is claimed (I have doubts), why not hand them over to someone else who would want them? The father, or other family members, even social services? Indeed why even have a second child, surely one would be enough to tell her she's not cut out to be a mother? Contraception and abortion are both freely available in this country; nobody HAS to be a parent if they don't want to be one (I'm not one and never intend to be!).

What sticks in my mind with this case is that she googled how long it takes for a body to go cold “up to the shoulder”. Clearly a calculated way of determining whether she’d get away with saying Lexi had been warm when she last checked on her (touched her shoulder) . She thought she was being clever, how ironic.

Wasn't the minimum 30 years?

thats her life over, prison will be hell for her!

no mention of the supposed pregnancy?

She murdered her children to be free to do what she want, when she wants and with who she wants.
WELL she won't get any of that now. It's only fitting for her to not get ANY say in what she wants now.
I really believe she murdered these babies so she could have a wild sex life. Say goodbye to your sex life louise. Or at least with men anyway. I sure hope she isn't into women.

For me these murders are worse than most because there is no angry out burst of rage or mental illness involved. She has calmly say and thought this through and I would have expected after killing the first baby she would have realised she had made a huge mistake and regretted doing it once the baby had actually died. But no, she did the exact same thing with her other baby and actually tried to improve on the murder.
EVIL is the word for this woman.

I have sat reading through this since yesterday to try to make some sense of this mindless waste of 2 innocent young lives.
Of course there is no sense to be made from it, just more questions and a deep feeling of sorrow, those poor girls, their poor family, such a tragic waste.

A couple of points i had noted though, there was a lot of talk from family about 'the system failing', and evidence of the involvement of social services was heard. It brought me to wonder if some of the 'missed' reporting was due to restrictions, social workers giving evidence for example and if there will be a Serious Case Review forthcoming. How the hell was she even given an opportunity to harm the second child, more failure of services perhaps?

I struggle to accept there is absolutely no mental illness or impairment, because surely sane people in their right mind, dont just decide to end the lives of not one but both of their children within a few short weeks of each other? But maybe that is a protection mechanism and i cant allow myself to believe it.

So sad, so senseless. RIP Lexi and Scarlett, fly high girls.

I do find it strange the media haven't had a field day with the pregnancy thing. Makes me think either she's lost it something has happened. They made a big deal out of her selling clothes and her mum's interview.
