Police confirm body found in river is millionaire farmer who vanished seven months ago | Daily Mail Online
This is my fear in this case that she did go in either the River Hull or even that smaller creek which I have not outruled yet or even the pond.
I have followed quite a few cases where bodies end up in water and sometimes they do immediately sink. In the wintertime, icy cold water prevents normal decomposition and a body may not float up as quick as it would if it were warm water. And of course if a body went in the moving River Hull then it could get snagged on bottom and stay down there.
If she ended up in any water then I am afraid it may be awhile before she surfaces or someone spots her tangled in debri near the bank.
Here are some interesting tidbits about bodies in water. If anyone has any doubt that a body could immediately sink then just try to remember as a child playing in a pool and what you would do when you wanted to sink to the bottom. All you had to do was let the air out of your lungs and down you go.
Its only until decomposition and gasses start to really increase in a dead body will it begin to float up unless the person managed to keep a lot of air in their lungs as they died. With icy cold water it can really slow down decomposition a lot. Almost to a standstill if the water is icy cold enough.
I share before of a case in Canada (sorry no link) where an ice fisherman fell through the ice on his snowmobile and he went down to the bottom and stayed down there. Rescuers knew where he went down from the hole in the ice and it took weeks before they got some special equipment to basically hook him with a line and pull his body back up to the surface. There is no telling how long his body would have stayed down there.
There was another case I remember as well where a body did go in the river and it was eventually found months later and was hung up on bottom by debri it got snagged on. Someone spotted the body down in the water because it was not too deep and they could see their body below the water.
I hope LS is not in any water but the longer this goes on without finding her then that seems like a real possibility.
