JMO If they had cast iron proof they would charge immediately, if assumptions then the CPS wouldn't approve. I believe they aren't keen without a body to charge unless they are certain. Someone may know better.

If you're referring to recent social media criticism my response would be that they can't stick the blues and twos on to get to every reported drunk or disorderly in the city.

The police were definitely on Newland Av at 12:19 (per CCTV footage released by The Sun) so perhaps they'd done a drive by the bench and seen nothing.

Yes was it ever noted why the police were there? Were they responding to a call out? They didn't seem in a hurry.

No, I'm not referring to Hull Blues and Twos. I've posted previously about my thoughts on what happened on 31 Jan, regarding eyewitnesses who may have called the police, quite extensively,

Here's my theory of what happened. Please feel free to pick at bits that seem highly unlikely.

PR knows that Thursday night is a local student night near where he lives and thinks that he probably has a good chance of hooking up with a random girl who's already quite drunk.

He's driving along Beverly road and sees a man helping up a girl who is obviously wasted. He drives around to Haworth and waits till the coast is clear.

He approaches a very drunk and confused Libby and could say something like "your friends sent me to pick you up, come on, I'm a taxi driver my car's just over there."

In her confused state this may sound plausible so she gets into the car. She could fall asleep as he drives her to the park or says she's going to be sick so he says she can't be sick in the car but there's a toilet just down the road in the park.

When they get to the park he probably makes a move on Libby which freaks her out and she screams running into the park. He grabs her and puts his hands over her mouth to keep her quiet but ends up suffocating her.

Realising what he's done he panics. Knowing the river is nearby he decides to put her in there but first checks her pockets to make sure she hasn't got her phone which can be located.

He can't find her phone on her and thinks she must have dropped it. He doesn't have time to look for it because someone might have heard her scream and called the police.

He puts her in the river and runs back to his car to get away quickly in case the police are on their way.

The next morning when it's light he cleans the car whilst checking for her phone in case it fell out of her pocket. He doesn't find it so he goes back to the park to look for it in the car park, the bushes, the grass anywhere it could have been dropped but he doesn't find it because she didn't have it.

The police check CCTV and see pr at the time Libby went missing. They get his phone records which place him going to the park. They check up on him and find he's been involved with police before. They arrest him and release his picture and some dog walker recognises him as the man in the park who was acting suspiciously looking through bracken and strange places in the park the morning after Libby went missing.

The police could assume he was there to hide a body maybe or move it, but really he was just looking for Libby's phone that he thought she'd dropped.

A few days later he finds out she didn't even have her phone so it's only his that could give him away. He makes up a story about him giving her a lift which gives him an excuse if any cameras saw him put her into his car or if any DNA shows up in his car.

Forgive me if I sound naive, but is it possible that the 26th December voyeurism charge WAS actually still one of the charges on the court date, but it just wasn't listed in MSM for some reason? Or is it possible that there was actually just some sort of miscommunication within the media and he was never actually being charged for the Boxing Day offense, or was always the July one, but it was reported incorrectly in MSM? Just trying to think of reasons that it didn't appear on the list of charges in court.

We'll be finding out for certain two weeks on Monday when the charges are read out in Crown Court. Lets not waste tons of energy speculating on something so minor at the moment and yet regardless, it doesnt change anything at all anyway.

I think they probably patrol the area anyway, but they also could have been responding to a call. Who knows? It's one or the other and we'll probably never find out!

No, I don't have any personal and professional experience with the police at all. I find it odd how there seems to be a different senior detective speaking at every press conference. If you pay interest to the news, you'll know this is highly unusual. Usually you see the same detective/chief leading throughout a high profile case. It gives continuity to the campaign and reassurance to the family and community.

Maybe there are innocent reasons for it (holidays, days off etc), but as this is a sleuthing site I'm, erm, sleuthing.

I wasn't aware that different officers were fronting the press releases, and agree that is not usual. Normally there is one Senior Investigating Officer seen by the public as fronting a high profile case, as you say it does give continuity and reassurance at a public level.
Going back to read/watch all the public reports later.

Given any mistakes, and Im sure there have been /will be some, ( some that seem important wont be and vice versa) are unintentional by definition, Im assuming you would like the outcome to be a fair, just and certain understanding of what has happened regarding LS.

To that end, applying your focus elsewhere temporarily, what would be your own theory as to the seeming disappearance? Or do we, the public, have simply not enough to make assumptions at this point as to a theory?

Do the Police have a better understanding than us? Do local media?

Can someone explain the law bits to me pleas ? (Sorry if I’ve missed it ) so at present we are waiting for the sexual pervy charges to go to court in March , what happens IF the police find something to charge him for abduction/murder before that ... I mean point blank evidence (hypothetical) .... do we have to wait until the March date or does it all change the day the police have their proof ? Pd I’m not on about if he’s done anything or not , just asking about the law bits and how that all works

This is actually a very good question, IF it becomes relevant. The only cases I've had direct involvement with where this has arisen have been situations where the accused has been charged with a preliminary offence, which has then been escalated to a higher offence as a result of further evidence. But in this case, it seems like the charges against the person in custody may be unrelated to the victim, meaning that further evidence may bring new charges as opposed to escalated charges. I don't know in that case whether the current trial would go ahead as scheduled, with the new charges being brought in their own course, or if the current less serious charges would take a back seat.

I think that's wishful thinking Sammie. Yes I hope they hope to find her alive but 3 weeks on, nothing at all, very meaningless searches it seems, I feel they're chasing their tails now hoping to find her alive or even finding her at all. There's an abundance of outstanding missing person cases where the person missing hasn't been located, some have been going on for decades even. Seems fairly common unfortunately.

PS - when was the last time a well documented and publicised missing young person in the UK went missing for over 3 weeks and was then found alive? I'm well over 50 and can't recall a single case....

I have to say that when they first announced the charges for him I thought they had been down in the basement searching for pre 1800 charges they could charge him with. One of them I had never heard of Outraging Public Decency.

Yes, 'outraging public decency ' sounds like an adventure to do on one hand, but in the context of his charges it's very bizarre!!! I think I have seriously outraged public decency in my many years but not on a sexual level at all in an offensive way lol, apart from once getting a tap on the shoulder off the local copper when I was having it off with my G/F next to a church once while drunk in my 20's. I saw the copper years later in a pub and he tapped me on the shoulder again and started laughing with me about it, different G/F though lol. Good old banter policing back then
