This is true, especially if I'm understanding the sentencing remarks that they accept, presumably from the pathology, that he may have thrown her in the river alive.The rape helped set the minimum 27 year sentence, if he hadn't raped her he would probably serve half the time in prison
eta I haven't read the full sentencing remarks just posted by Legally Bland, I'm going from what I've seen in the live reporting.
further eta to clarify now I've read the sentencing remarks - it isn't that the court accepts she may have been alive - he had assaulted Libby and she may have been dying when he put her in the river. It was the defence submission that it may have been putting her in the river that killed her.
