Police focus on alleyway in search for missing Hull student Libby

I'm finding it difficult to comprehend why they would return and search the alley behind PR's house after all this time. Would they not have searched that alley with dogs as a matter of procedure when the investigation initially begun?

The alley stops a few houses short of the rear of PR's house, and he likely wouldn't have access. LE will be aware of this, though they are perhaps doing it as a matter of procedure. Someone suggested that the additional searches we've seen over the past week could be part of the standard 28 day review, rather than being based on new information etc.

That's my thought exactly. There is a possibility PR has recently mentioned something to them re this area? But even so, yes I would have thought all alleyways, bins, everywhere in that vicinity would have had a thorough search.

But you'd think with an urgent nationwide missing person appeal they would have extended the search to that alley just a few yards away? What information has prompted them to that area that was not cognisant before? Does not make sense.

Am I right in thinking the cctv re the four people in Oak Road has never been shown with close up detail as the Haworth one was.

A few pages ago I mentioned that the alley is a persistent fly-tipping site. It may be that waste has recently been cleared from there and it was decided to bring a dog in.

It's of such poor quality that it would likely just pixelate.

Both CCTVs are what they are. They are likely shown as captured. The Haworth one has more close up detail because it was filmed from a close distance away - I don’t believe it’s been zoomed in. ITV do crop and zoom in their video but even that’s blurry. The Oak Road footage has been filmed from so far back that all you’d see is a pixelated blur if it was zoomed in on.

Okay - but still irrelevant sentiments as to why this area was not searched with dogs previously? Unless it was?

But according to the reports, it's being described as a new search, and not going over old ground.

ALL allays have persistent fly-tipping problems. Seeing the pictures of the Police searching Oak Road and Wellesley area they were all going through bins and rubbish. Contextually, this makes no sense. Unless we are going down the road of the Police do not actually know what they are doing and are clutching at straws?

The resident with a key to the back alley was away on holiday...apparently.

I would have thought if it was part of the investigation and any major evidence the LE would have broken the lock.

The cars on Newland - are they heading in direction of Raglan Street or away?

I guess the alley and the bins were searched before PR was arrested. However, only a fool would dump evidence in his own bins and in a back alley near his home.

Thank you, I did wonder

Not to flog the horse, but this one especially so. This is an issue I'm very involved with in that area - it's actually the reason that gate was put up in the first place.

I'm wondering if there's a landfill search a la Corrie McKeague coming.

No, that was next door neighbour John wasn't it? He has the key for the blue gate between their houses.

Neither John nor Pawel would have a key for the iron gate to the alley as their houses don't use it.

In fairness, we don't know a lot about John (other than him not being a fan of my photography). Given the area, it's not unreasonable to think that all of the properties which back onto that alley are rentals.

If I'm a landlord, and I am, I'm not trusting students with any keys more than is necessary. Bins are kept to the front of properties, so there isn't much need for them to access the alley. It may be that John owns another property on that block, or he's just a community busybody and takes responsibility for that alley, given the issues it has.

This would be easier in the US, where a standard real estate listings site like Zillow often tells you who owns the property.
