I'm a bit worried about this beach ball/piece of wood/other item been placed into the river with a tracker.
An object like that is not going to travel the same distance in the same time or manner as a person would.
What we need is a willing volunteer.
LOL
No, I just thought it would be interesting to get an idea of how fast the flow is at high tide.

It would be for sure.

My hubby is annoying me tonight I'm willing to donate him :D

To get in the river?

Why did she get in his car then? He must have agreed to take her somewhere and she accepted the offer;
a) Home....and she said yes as she was so drunk she forgot she had no keys
b) To find her friends ( they went the wrong way quite quickly but it’s possible she couldn’t stop him )
c) To go somewhere elsewhere , somewhere where they would not be visible for.... well why do people go out of the public view ? Drugs or Sex.

After those 3 options I can think of no other reason why she would agree to get in his car..... unless anyone else can think of any?
Forced in before she had time to think?

His sister, in her much debated quote, said crying girl who wanted to go home. Simplest answer. Possibly now feeling that would be the best place to wait for friends.

Theresa May might be happy to volunteer!!

Yeah, it would be a great experiment to use something approx the same size/weight. However, like Cherwell I thought it was to measure the speed

I can't find where I read the fact that the ebb tide in The Hull can flow 4 miles per hour. It was an nteresting site about the worthiness of The Hull's muddy appearance plus other facts.
Cannot find a link atm so take as rumour only, sorry.

I’m surprised nobody’s come forward to say he’s offered to take them home before..... surely he’s not got lucky the first time he’s done this .
Surely he has failed attempts at trying to lure women into his car before.....
Maybe they have!

M

There is something there that they dont want us to see.
• She could be cosying up to PR
• She could have been having a wee
• He may have given her a key of coke
• He may have handed her a joint
Firstly she's still with grey Beard during part of the time we don't see.

Secondly every single thing we have read and heard about Libby suggests all of those are all unlikely.

Thirdly she's distressed, alone, drunk, cold and in the dark. She is most likely desperate to be safe and warm.

Lastly what on Earth would possess any lone woman, drunk or otherwise, to risk cosying up to a strange man in the street.

More likely PR prowling or calling someone is what they don't want us to see.

I've never seen such a thing. Flowers are usually sold out of buckets of water. If any florists do that, it would be intended to be very temporary.
What is so difficult about bringing along a jam jar or other recyclable container?
People don't leave the paper wrappings on flowers at home, it just seems extraordinary to me that if they're going to the trouble and expense of buying flowers, they then leave them hidden under waste paper. It looks awful.
I will never tire of reading about your hatred of wrapped flowers Cherwell!

But if she’s desperate to be safe and warm she would have knocked on the neighbours door or gone into a pub or a takeaway . I don’t think you get into a strangers car in town to stay warm. There was an intention here to go somewhere for a reason

Better than 50% that the cyclist is simply a scally, with a decent possibility that they were casing or dealing. That's often how it's done in this part of Hull.

It doesn't mean he had any involvement with PR, though.
Agree totally

First thing on Friday when the police appealed for GB to come forward why did they also not also appeal for PR if he approached Libby At the bench.

Theory based on spider cam:
He has seen Libby on or near Beverley Road while driving past and noticed that she was staggering or unsteady.
He drives around to Haworth St where he knows he can park close to the main road.
He gets out of the car and walks to the main road, but sees that Greybeard is with Libby, so he returns to the car and waits for a while.
Then he goes back to see if Libby is still there. She is, and she's alone now, so he persuades her to come with him and brings her to his car.

I have said this elsewhere:
"The person on the spiderwebcam walked to the car from the direction of the bench. Maybe they had seen Libby by then. They wait. Have a smoke. Go back up to find Libby still there."

No, I just thought it would be interesting to get an idea of how fast the flow is at high tide.

Not the site I was previouly referencing, but does refer to the tides here:

Hull (Approaches and Marina) [Expanded View] - North East England: pilotage, charts, photos and marine business listings

The city can offer everything a visiting yachtsman might need, for the boat and for himself. Provisioning and transport are straightforwards, and anyone making the effort to push up the Humber as far as Hull will probably find themselves wanting to stay for a little while.

The city lies about 20 miles into the River Humber from Spurn Head, fierce tides and much commercial shipping / ferries make the journey not exactly straightforward...

Entrance to the Marina is via a lock, and arrival must be timed three hours either side of high water. Spring tides can reach rates of 5 kn near Hull, careful calculations will be needed if you don't want to be sitting on the spot motoring full speed ahead and getting nowhere !

As a student many years ago now- when I was most vulnerable was also when I was most needy. 20 plus years later, I would never do that- but at that age, all attention was appreciated- especially if my friends had abandoned me and sent me home. JMO but I don’t think she was necessarily repelled by the attention of a young bloke whilst drunk who possibly offered her warmth and company.

Hi Woolybear :)
Thanks for having a look and a good think about it all. I was really amazed at how close the water is in that spot, and assumed it would be easy to drive there from Oak Road playing fields, ie, along Clough Rd, right along Mount Pleasant Road, left onto Heddon Road, then right onto Paull Road. But I know it all looks very different on a map compared to the actual reality! Those look like main roads, but I guess not?
I was under the impression there was going to be a high tide a few hours after Libby was on the bench, no? If so, wouldn't the water wash up against the muddy shore and carry anything back into the river's current?

That is another possible route. Interesting about the tides. As a fisherman he might have had a set of tide tables in his pocket I suppose. Or an app on his phone. The only other de-merit to the idea I can think of is that it's quite a long journey with an unconscious passenger. What if he'd been stopped

Because they knew he was a suspect and not a witness??

Guessing they already had his details by then (reg number from cctv) and quite possibly were in the process of putting him under surveillance.

Maybe they just wanted GB for a witness statement.

I get the tide times different to that.
BUT the river can be high for a while i posted a pic at the weekend 90 mins after high tide and despite the water flowing out quite fast it was still really full. So even 90 mins before the 0345 high tide the river would possibly have still been pretty full?

She was a <modsnip> vulnerable student. IMO she'd gone to where she thought she might see her friends get off a bus. And frozen cold and scared put her trust in a young bloke who promised to drop her home (or forced her into his car). Sadly he turned out to be a creep.
