Rape convictions and sentences in the UK are disgusting.

God they are. A guy in my area was charged with 4 separate counts of rape on one night and he got 10 years. He will be out anytime I think. Disgusting.

I wish we had court TV in UK as it is hard to tell how he is coming across just from snippets of reporting but to me it seems as though they are brushing it off as "well he had a problem and just liked to go out masturbating"... like no big deal. It is clearly a big deal to the victims of his previous crimes and so it should be. He's not coming across as concerned or remorseful as to what happened to Libby. Also, if he had not been violent before, what suddenly pushed him into rape instead of just masturbating and "looking" because whichever you look at it she was clearly in no fit state to consent.

Maybe it is part of his game plan. There isnt much point disputing it when he has already been convicted of the other offences really.

But yes I hope he has had some sort of therapy because he needs it.

I imagine he’s been coached about what to say by his defence team. He’s certainly trying to come across as relatable with the repeated mentions of his wife and children and by referring to his anxiety about his ‘problem’ being found out and causing trouble for him.

Re time waits, it may have changed since I divorced but back then it was:
No time wait if cause given eg adultery
2 year wait if “no fault” and both agree to divorce
5 year wait if “no fault” but one party does not agree to divorce

Irrelevant really, but some people seem particularly interested in the divorce. It would also depend whether they got married in Poland or here as to which divorce laws apply, particularly if she has moved back to Poland. Even if they met in t he UK, they may have married in Poland as Polish citizens.

He got 8+ years for these crimes. It is definitely not what I expected to hear from his defence to be honest.

Not sure they had much choice as looks like his previous convictions were allowed as evidence so maybe better fot defence to acknowledge than just not mention but, having said that, I'm suprised by use of words such as "silly" as to me it sounds like he is trivializing his past crimes rather than showing regret and rehabilitation.

Edited to add I would use the word "silly" if my child was misbehaving not for crimes such as those he has already been convicted of

I think it grew out of speculation as to whether she might be called as a witness. I think it's still the case that a spouse cannot be compelled to give evidence.

As I've said previously (I think) m have personal, lived experience of this crime (his crimes prior to Libbys murder).

My daughter was 13 and was 6 weeks into recovery from a Stroke.

The man in our case was doing it outside our garden after throwing stones at the window to get her attention, the second time he came in the garden, the third time he climbed on the shed roof attempting to get up to her bedroom window.

We ended up leaving our home out of fear and on advice from police.

My daughter self harmed and attempted suicide.

We, like all of his other victims were in our own home, the one place you should be able to feel safe and that's what is the worst part.

Please don't accept his version of 'harmless, silly fetish' ... it's been 12 years for us and my daughter will never get over it.

It's far from harmless! If you hear the victim impact statements it's terrifying! And he must know it's terrifying because unlike the creeps that manage to spy in private, he maintains eye contact when seen. Follows people and wanks all over their doors!

He doesn't just want to see women to masturbate, he wants to see them scared!

That experience must have been awful for your daughter
