.And yet so much of the evidence the prosecution have called proves simply, does it not, that he could have raped her, that he could have killed her. Not that he did. But that he might have done. Which I am afraid is not enough. “

Mr Saxby told the court there was no
evidence of violence after Libby's body was found.

“There is no evidence of any sort of violent attack – right down to each of her thin hooped earrings being in place and her delicate...neck chain intact when her body was found,” he said.

The court also heard how the butcher would need to be a “fast runner indeed” to have killed Libby then dumped her in the river – all in seven and a half minutes.

Libby Squire suspect's lawyer admits his past crimes are 'gross and disgusting'
I think the fact she was incapacitated means he did rape her? What a vile little thing this defence lawyer

Poor silly old Pawel and his perilous penis - what about poor old Libby and the other women he terrified.

An article in The Sun newspaper today has again reported that Libby had marks to her neck and small haemorrages around her mouth, that could be signs of asphyxiation. Did we ever find out whether there was or wasn’t as seemed to be some confusion about whether she did or didn’t have these marks?
Libby 'killer was "looking for woman to have easy sex" with to fulfil fetish'
Mr Saxby is asking about asphyxiation. He said: “There were none of the signs that you usually see when that happens?”

Dr Lyall said: “That’s correct.”

He seems to say today he was in the area looked for opportunities for voyeurism etc "and/or find a girl for sex" ..is looking for "casual sex" always been on his agenda for his regular nights outings ? Or just that night
As far as his convictions go he's never approached any of his victims and asked. He isn't in an area where there sez workers. It's all families and students so I doubt he's accessed them

Wonder if we will get explanation. Never seen a sober person hug a wall before.
I don't think it's meant literally. "Hugging the wall" is a phrase that means walking very close to the wall, perhaps edging along. Usually done either to avoid being seen or to get shelter from rain.

Yes this is what I'd like to know ...not necessarily sex workers as he may not have money ...but if he ever approached people for sex ...the prosecution may look at that

Libby's delicate necklace and earrings also didn't come off after 7 weeks in a river where there's plenty to catch on. I don't think her jewellery being on is evidence she wasn't violently attacked. JMO

More details of defence opening

“How he has behaved, what he has done – it is utterly disgusting.

“Let me spell it out: he has violated homes, he has violated the intimate possessions of student girls, he has violated intimate moments and he has expressed his enjoyment at all of this by masturbating at the time, and elsewhere – including in public places.

“It is, I repeat, disgusting. What he did I don’t doubt will have been extremely frightening. And you will hate him for it. That’s the reality, being frank.

“Why wouldn’t you?”

Relowicz said he had previously denied his sexually motivated offences because of his wife and children but now accepted he had a problem.

Saxby told the court that screams heard by witnesses early on 1 February could have come from a “disorientated and confused” Squire, and that Relowicz had returned home by the time they were made.

The trial continues.

That is disgusting. 10 years for multiple rape!!!

A friend was on a jury for a stolen treasure case (not as mad as it sounds they'd dug up saxon and viking coins and jewellery and sold it instead of declaring it) and they got 10 years for something as close to a victimless crime as it's possible to get. The same as a rapist who destroys lives.

Actually just read the sentencing report back and I was way off the mark with what I remember so apologies. He got a life sentence with a minimum of ten years. But I know one of his family members (who despise him) and he has been a model prisoner so they expect he will be released when his minimum term is up. It involved a teenager as well which is so horrible to even think about.

How Relowicz says the conversation between him and Libby went
When asked what they initially said to each other Relowicz outlined the conversation.

He said: “She said, ‘hey man’ and I said, ‘What’s up?’

“She said she needed some help, she wanted to go home to her mum.”

He says they did not go inside the Endsleigh Centre, but stood “more or less in the gate.”

Defence barrister Oliver Saxby said: “We know you both walked to Haworth Street, why?”

Relowicz said: “Because I said if she wanted to give me her address I had a car right round the corner on Haworth Street. I said I would help her.

“She was nice but she was saying that she didn’t know what was going on with her.”

How awful to name Libby as Squire.

Except it's not a fetish, it's a crime, as Mrazda pointed out. I would expect a court translator to know the difference.
They weren’t the words quoted which were “silly” and another similarly inappropriate word. Nothing to do with fetish or crime being confused.

My old dog used to 'hug the wall' when she went out of the front door while I was answering it and she didn't want me to see her escape.

Mr Saxby conveniently left out libbys broken watch when stating about her jewellery being intact.

The word "fetish" has been used though, so someone has thought it appropriate.

'I did not physically force her into the car'
Relowicz says when he left his car again and went back to Beverley Road, Libby was sitting on the pavement.

He said: “When the other car drove off she got up and was trying to open the other cars on the other side of the road. I told her they weren’t my car so I pressed the key to show her my car and when she saw it she said, ‘ok'.

“We both walked to the car and she sat in and I did her seatbelt for her.”

Relowicz says he did not physically force her into the car.

He said: “I believe that she understood everything that I was saying to her because when I told her my car was there and I needed her address then she would follow me. I didn’t force her to walk, she went on her own.”

Mr Saxby has asked whether Libby did anything that would suggest to Relowicz she liked him sexually to which he has replied “no".
