He said he ended up in Beresford Avenue and he thought that she was going to be sick and stopped his car by the playing fields where he could drive no further.

He claimed that when there, Libby got out of the car and he went to the toilet. He told police that when he got back she was crying and kneeling on the floor and walked away on the left hand side of Beresford Avenue where he assumed she lived.
I'm intrigued to know where he's going with this version of events. Why does he need to say he 'went to the toilet'? and why does he need to say Libby was kneeling on the ground? Is it perhaps to pre-defend why both his and Libby's dna is in that place, on the ground, in that park?

Hi again people. Hull native here.

It's very close to home. My girlfriend lives Goddard Avenue which is four streets from Raglan Street and my mate lives Philip Larkin Close which is 2 minutes from Haworth Street.

Personally I'm struggling to see how he murdered her at the same time he raped her. The timeframe doesn't fit for me. I think he came back and she dead from hypothermia or she was still there and he murdered her then and disposed of her body in the river.

I've got sick feeling the defence will use her mental health against her.

  • #403
As said above, I too think he may have gone back to check and see if she had gone, and when found her there, perhaps unconscious, disposed of her in river as he knew she could ID him.

Was his return visit long enough to accomplish anything significant other than have a quick look around ? Approx 4 mins

Didn't we think, for some reason, that he'd lost his glasses?

I originally thought he may have returned a third time for his car key. Obviously not now we know more facts about the odd time delay.

I still think he returned the third time for a lost item. Makes more sense to me that he knew he would not be disturbed because Libby was already in the water.

I do remember that. But for the life of me right now, I cannot remember why!

Me too because my child was a student in Hull and because her friends were the ones he'd stolen from days before. Its heartbreaking

I agree with you that the more we heard about him initially the more I thought he was ready to move on and Libby was just his unlucky first victim.

The fact it sounds like he was prowling around that night and had already been to park before Libby had even left the house is chilling.

And not to mention the spider cam video where presumably he was thinking through his forthcoming actions. Ugh! JMO

Relowicz ‘masturbated in Newland Avenue' hours after he allegedly killed Libby
The court heard that after his third visit to Oak Road Playing Fields, Relowicz continued to cruise around the student area in Hull, eventually arriving in Newland Avenue at 2.38am.

Mr Wright says that around six minutes later he drove to Alexandra Road and parked up: “CCTV cameras picked up the defendant walking across Newland Avenue.

"The defendant appears to be standing with his knees bent. The prosecution suggest that what you are watching here [in the CCTV] is the defendant masturbating in the street.”

The court has heard Relowicz was then captured on CCTV making his way back to his home in Raglan Street.

Libby 'stalked and intercepted' by Pawel Relowicz - trial updates

What was his fix in Alexandra Road? Another student house? A house he had previously been doing sexual things in or at?

'Car and home searches revealed sexual material'
Relowicz’s car and home were searched on February 6. In his computer desk at home, Humberside Police recovered a sex toy and lubricant, as well as a book of student accommodation in Hull.

A drone with footage showing Oak Road Playing Fields was found and it was confirmed that, as he had told police in interview, that he had flown his drone over them a couple of days before.

His mobile phone was also seized and analysed, Mr Wright has told the court.

He said that Relowicz was using his mobile in the early hours of February 1 to browse internet 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 and in particular, a website called “Chaturbate.” After he returned home after leaving Oak Road without Libby he logged onto that website between 1.07am and 1.11am.

Mr Wright also said he logged on a second time between 3.23am and 3.45am.

He added: “On any view you may think that he appears to have been in a state of heightened sexual arousal that night."

omg it just gets worse. He is beyond revolting.

This has really gotten to me today. How can it be possible that Libby was likely dead within 10 minutes of last been seen on Beverley Road, I just cannot get my head around that at all?

2 points of note for me,
1st PR police pictures were without his glasses and I believe at least his first court appearance no glasses, they appeared later, I think that is where we presumed lost glasses from and I'm going to say at this point, coupled with the scratches on his face showing she likely fought back, I think its a pretty fair bet so say they were indeed missing.

2nd, tide times for the river Hull that night. This was again discussed at the time and we did have the times found, it would be interesting to see again now having a better idea of the timescales involved.

Sadly I think it was all over very quickly, but in some ways I'm glad it seems she didn't suffer at his hands for too long, such a waste of a promising young life for a couple of minutes of someone sick perverse pleasure.

I'm so sorry for her family having to hear all these grubby details. Heartbreaking.

This is making for some difficult reading!

If as confident as I can be that he's going to be found very guilty.

It will be interesting to hear about his phone triangulation data.

I think that it is very possible to rape and kill or leave Libby close to death in that short space of time. I've followed many cases here and quite a few have been surprisingly quick. These type of men have little to no self control.

The state she was in, I doubt he expected her to put up ANY fight but, she did, she fought and she screamed and that will have potentially heightened his 'enjoyment' and also made him panic once he had 'finished'.

I don't believe for a minute that she ended up in the water under her own steam. He either did that at the time or when he went back.

I think his wife 'could' give evidence against him but, she can't be 'compelled' to but, I don't think she'll be called.

Trial Day 1 (12/1/21) reference post #146 here:
UK - Libby Squire, 21, last seen outside Welly club, Hull, 31 Jan 2019 *ARREST* #18

Jan. 13th, Tuesday, Day 2 of Trial: The first witnesses are expected today after the prosecution finishes its opening remarks. Prosecutor Richard Wright QC continued opening statements. The jury was shown 3 clips of CCTV from the area where Libby was last seen. They showed the “coincidental” arrival of another vehicle that lead prosecutor Wright QC says has nothing to do with Libby or Relowicz. The Renault Scenic can apparently be seen on CCTV arriving on Haworth Street “at the time the defendant was sitting in his car & Libby was just around the corner on Beverley Road.” The jury was shown some CCTV footage which begins at 11:57pm on Jan. 31 & shows Relowicz leaving his car & walking into Beverley Road, past Libby – although he appears to ignore her – and into Beresford Avenue. Mr. Wright told the jury: “He hadn’t gone down there but he had got Libby in his sights. He hugged the wall on the right-hand side of the road in the shadows & effectively stalks her. She’s on the left & he’s on the right-hand side, tracking her progress up the road. We will see that when Libby gets to the entrance of the Endsleigh Centre, at that point he darts across the road & intercepts her and they appear to go into the grounds of the centre for some time. They then re-emerge & walk back down Beverley Road towards the junction with Haworth Street & towards his car.” A second clip, timed at 12:03am on Feb, 1 that Relowicz bided his time until Renault Scenic left scene. Libby gets into Relowicz's car says prosecution but 'unclear if forced or persuaded'. The jury was shown enhanced CCTV that shows what happened between Relowicz & Libby after the Renault Scenic leaves Haworth Street. Libby's father had to leave the public gallery. Libby's gold digital watch found where she had got into Relowicz's car; found by a member of the public. The jury was shown photographs of the watch. The jury was shown CCTV which tracked the Astra’s journey from Haworth Street. One showed Relowicz making his second journey of the night to Oak Road Playing Fields – this time with Libby. The car can be seen on CCTV footage arriving at around 12:11am. Mr. Wright said: “The defendant knew where he was going we suggest & certainly knew that this was a quiet dark place where he was unlikely to be disturbed.” The jury was shown a map & an aerial photograph of the playing fields. Frantic screams heard from Oak Road playing fields. The jury heard that a man living in a house close to the playing fields heard frantic & loud screaming soon after Relowicz & Libby arrived at Oak Road Playing Fields. The man recalls that he woke up & looked at the screen of his phone, seeing the time was 12:14am. He lay awake for what he thought was two or three minutes & then heard a series of screams. After the screams had stopped the man looked out of his window & says “a few minutes after the last scream” he saw a man, who he described in his 20s “emerging from the darkness” & “running off the playing fields, away from the river behind him & heading back toward Oak Road.” Relowicz left Oak Road just seven & a half minutes after arriving with Libby, said the prosecution. The jury is being shown CCTV footage of when Relowicz allegedly returned back to his car – shown by the flashing of lights of the car being unlocked. The defendant had raped & killed Libby during this first visit, but that he did not put her body into the water until his third trip to the area later that evening.” Relowicz was later picked up on CCTV heading onto Beverley Road at around 12:20am & he then parked in Raglan Street at around 12:23am & a figure could be then be seen on CCTV walking in the direction of Relowicz’s home. The same CCTV footage that saw Relowicz return to his home in Raglan Street picked him up at 2:22am, Mr. Wright said. By 2:25am, he was caught on CCTV arriving back at Oak Road Playing Fields. He remained there for just over four minutes. After his third visit to Oak Road Playing Fields, Relowicz continued to cruise around the student area in Hull, eventually arriving in Newland Avenue at 2:38am. And that around six minutes later he drove to Alexandra Road & parked up: “CCTV cameras picked up the defendant walking across Newland Avenue. "The defendant appears to be standing with his knees bent. The prosecution suggested that what you are watching here [in the CCTV] is the defendant masturbating in the street.” The court has heard Relowicz was then captured on CCTV making his way back to his home in Raglan Street. Just two days later on February 3, when many across Hull helped police search for Libby, a member of the public noticed a used condom on the pavement on Alexandra Road, near Newland Avenue. It was in the location where Relowicz had parked. The condom was sent for scientific examination & DNA evidence showed the semen contained in the condom matched the DNA profile of Relowicz. Relowicz’s arrest & injuries: Relowicz was arrested by Humberside Police on Feb. 6, 2019. His car had been identified from CCTV footage. The jury was told that Relowicz was detained & booked into custody where he was examined by a nurse who noted a scratch mark to the right hand side of his face. There were two marks on Relowicz’s face – one just under the eye & another lower down on the right side of his nose. A further mark was also noted on his chest near to the right shoulder.

It is a great pity that none of the 'good samaritans' who saw her crying and stumbling around on the icy ground, obviously not fully in control and not dressed for the freezing cold night, didn't hang around and phone the police to express concern about a lone young girl in such a state. Okay, she was refusing their help, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have acted.

Maybe something for all of us to reflect on should we ever come across such a incident.

  • #418
I'm also thinking that although she was in water, the time of year was very cold and so perhaps instead of washing away the evidence as he hoped it preserved it?
Im not sure but I thought when he said internal swab he meant from much higher in the reproductive tract than that cervix such as from the uterus or fallopian tubes. Very difficult to wash them away from there and therefore more likely some would preserved. MOO

I've always thought that hypothermia would be their best defence - and that he panicked and put her in the river but one of the experts has said that she was probably hypothermic but there were no signs she'd died of hypothermia. I seriously hope they don't try the mental health defence as I don't want her parents to have to sit thru anything more than they absolutely have and it must be hard enough as it is

I hope he decides to plead guilty before much longer but I doubt it.

Oh yes I agree that it is likely swabs were taken where water could not wash away evidence, but what I meant was; considering she had been in the water for quite some time they still managed to gain quite a lot of evidence. I was just thinking that the cold temperatures must've also slowed down decomposition.
