A nine-year-old girl has died after a suspected stabbing in a town centre.

Lincolnshire Police said a murder investigation had begun after the incident on Fountain Lane, Boston, at about 18:20 BST on Thursday.
The force said the girl died from what is believed to be a stab wound. No further information about her death has yet been released.
The girl's parents have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, it added.
At the scene on Friday morning, a large area has been covered while police officers work to gather evidence.
Forensic teams worked until the early hours of the morning with the scene being guarded by officers.

Seems like a daily occurrence at the moment.

Is it usual to not confirm if those arrested are adults or children?

They normally state age and sex for people who have been arrested in connection with a murder case. In the case of a minor I think they just say 'a minor has been arrested'.

My guess is that it is children , due to the lack of detail being given.

Police have arrested two men in connection with the little girl’s murder, which took place near the town centre as she played with her younger sister.

Seems like a daily occurrence at the moment.

This is far from a daily occurrence. The random murders of children is still, thankfully, very rare and is indeed horrifying when and wherever it may happen.

From the article:
Data showed that there were two homicides and eight attempted murders in Boston (UK) for the period up to September 2015, a rate of 15 murderous crimes for every 100,000 people.

The local community was in a state of shock as they came to terms with the tragic news late on yesterday evening, with heartbroken residents calling it the 'most shocking tragedy ever to befall' the town.

Arthur Smith, 66, who knelt down to say a prayer at the scene said: 'It is just so shocking. A poor little angel has lost her life. I feel so sorry for her and her parents.

'Whoever did it should be locked up for life – and I mean life. When I was growing up, you could never imagine something like this happening.'

Mother-of-four Fiona Raynor, 49, who works as a pub cleaner, said: 'This has broken my heart. I can't imagine what could have gone on.

'It is just horrendous that a little girl can be stabbed to death in the street in broad daylight. I feel awful for her family.'

Other residents said they had seen armed police in nearby streets last night as police launched their investigation into the death of the girl.

Mother-of-two Sara Stringer, 37, said: 'I saw armed officers and three police cars with blue flashing lights.

'I couldn't believe it when I heard that a little girl had been killed. It is disgusting.'

Taxi driver Jonathan Newton, 55, said: 'We are a close knit community here and the town is rocked to the core by this tragedy.

'She was just a little girl, how could anyone do this to a nine-year-old? It's the most shocking tragedy to ever befall our little town. I'm just speechless.'

Do you mean random as in the murderer did not know the victim?

That is what I am wondering, did the people arrested know the victim.

This is absolutely dreadful. I'd be very surprised if this was totally random and the suspects didn't know her.

I think it's far too early to surmise any possible motive.

Two men were last night in custody and being quizzed over the attack after armed police raided a house in Boston, Lincs.

One line of inquiry was said to centre on claims the attacker believed Lilia’s mum Lina — a recruitment agency boss — owed him money for factory shifts.

Lithuanian Lina was understood to have been working just 10ft away watching her girls from the window of the café.

She was the first to rush to her daughter’s aid on the cobbled street, which is also home to legal and accountancy firms, beauticians and restaurants.

Police had arrested two men, but confirmed on Saturday morning they had been released with no further charge. Officers have now released images of a man they want to speak to over the girl's death.

Two people previously arrested over the incident have been released without any further action being taken.

If it turns out it's just one guy involved after all, then maybe it could be a random attack by a severely mentally ill person. Like in the case of 7 year old Emily Jones who was stabbed in the park.
