20 minutes sounds like a long time to reach the police. Is that unusual in Britain?

It can and does often take longer than that because we have an emergency number 999 and then over the last couple of years a national number for the whole of Great Britain has been implemented 101 and it has, IMOO, made it almost impossible at times to get a meaningful response.
Let’s put it this way, I am a retired Senior Investigative Officer from a neighbouring Police force to Lancashire Police where this crime occurred and I was responsible for approx 80+ detectives and 5 detective departments. So I have a huge understanding of the issues faced by call handlers and dispatchers and the availability of staff due to staffing levels being cut and due to the austerity measures that came into effect with the Tory government in 2013 ish . Police numbers have been cut from 148,000 down to less than 120,000 and then ,in addition, 90% of the support staff roles and also PCSOs (who are like Police officers but have a much reduced role in terms of arrest etc ) have also been cut and the staff lost , so now , not only has there been a 60% increase in workload during this same time period (mainly due to online crime) but there’s also been a massive reduction in staffing levels and we are now at critical point! It doesn’t help that the outgoing PM Teresa May , cut the starting wages of new Police recruits so as a comparison ( all approximations apart from Police)...
The starting wage ( approx ) for newly qualified teacher is £26,000
Newly qualified nurse £25,000
Newly qualified Firefighter £22,000
Newly qualified Prison Officer £27,000
Newly qualified Police Officer 19,000
It’s despicable that they are expected to put their lives on the line for so little appreciation and valued members of society !

In December, I was the victim of a knife point Robbery, one of the more violent crimes and I initially dialled 999 but couldn’t get through. My ex husband and I then both simultaneously dialled 101 and waited for in excess of 90 minutes yet still wasn’t able to get through. I ended up reporting it online some 4 hours after it had occurred and what made it even worse was that it was 5 days later before I was visited by the Police. If this crime came in during my period of managing the CID ( criminal investigation department), then it would have been a priority crime and visited immediately because all such crimes were tagged to me as soon as they came in and they were visited by my detectives within the critical Golden hour . It was absolutely soul destroying to have 5 days whereby evidence was potentially lost as well as witnesses etc due to the delay.

Presumably though you can access the same area from the road marked Ave Parade, past what looks like s bowling club?

Just thinking of the sort of things the defence will ask.

Yes u can get there from all sides

Can you mark on the map where the actual burial site in the cemetery was. I am presuming it was in/by the trees by the railway track.

Whilst on the subject of the railway track. Any ideas what the defendant was doing walking around in the Huncoat Business Park area (across the railway track)?

He lives there I think?

The line is a footpath through the coppice. Where the marker is is where I was walking and I think this is where the dog walker was who seen Lindsay's coat. Could be wrong because I can't find the post with the mark on.
To give some local Intel to the case. From the bungalow on Burnley Road where the last cctv footage of lindsay was to the coppice path is between a 6 to 7 minute walk, via the path that runs up the side of the whittakers arms. Via the main road and peel park avenue it would take longer, more like 10 to 12 mins. The field where the outbuildings are can be accessed from the back of whittakers arms but would involve climbing over a small wall. To get to this point and access fields from here it would be no more than 2 to 3 minutes. In the height of summer the path and fields are overgrown with brambles. These fields were searched on Friday 23rd in the evening by a volunteer search group which included a first responder from search and rescue and ex Army personnel. Interestingly what resonated with me from this search is that both the search and rescue responder and Army guy concluded that the fields terrain was extremely tough going, long grass, uneven ground, dense brambles, etc.

That's how I remember it. It was full of brambles

You have been missed Angleterre. I hope things at the hospital are as well as possible, and, that we'll be hearing more from you soon

The thing that's perplexing me the most, is how on earth it happened that a fit lady came to be incapacitated in the middle of the afternoon, in the middle of the summer holidays, in what seems to be a popular walking spot, with no one hearing or seeing anything???

IF the jacket is hers, I'm trying to picture how it has been explained that you couldn't get to it from the path because of the brambles, you'd have to go through the field. Did she walk through the field? Or did someone use a story... 'my puppy's got stuck in the brambles', she took her jacket off so as not to snag it and went to help?

maybe she was threatened with some kind of weapon! There are many different reactions when people are put in those situations. I think what ever he did to incapacitate her he did it quick.
We know she was naked when found, and her cut up shoes where in the bin, we have not heard if any of her clothes have been found. If the jacket on the fence was hers, maybe all the clothes got disposed somewhere else!
He knows where they are but is not telling, they have more evidence pointing to him as the killer, so we will probably never know.

but he has admitted he moved the body so can receive a sentence for that.

I’d be interested to know how many murder convictions there have been with no actual forensic link to the killing, but links to the body disposal. I feel like this lame defence could be used frequently if this person gets away with it.
EG. husbands car is seen on CCTV in location wife’s body is found, he says I found her like this, just moved the body! Surely that wouldn’t fly!

I'm going to request (report) to a Mod to give us a "new" thread before court starts tomorrow - hopefully! :)

Before we move over to Thread Two, hopefully today - can I just say a big thank you to all the locals for giving us so much detailed infomation. Looking at a map only gets us so far, on the ground knowledge is so helpful.

And, can I ask any of you - when going up to The Coppice, coming from the direction that LB was walking, would it be more normal to cut through by Whitakers Car Park or is the usual route on the other side of the pub, next to the Funeral Directors ?

I live further up the road from where LB lived, when accessing the coppice by this side I would always take the route that has the pub on my left and the funeral directors on my right, there are quite a few access routes up onto the coppice area from this part of Accrington.

The quickest route and only proper public footpath is inbetween the funeral directors and the side of whittakers arms. The footpath takes you to the road that leads from the bottom of peel Park avenue. It is not a nice path, quite scruffy, dark and isolated. It is also often muddy even in summer as does not get much sunlight. I have used it maybe 5 times in the 8 years that I have lived in Huncoat, I never want to reck or muddy my trainers

Perfect description, it’s not a path I’d use if walking alone

Should add there are other ways to access the coppice from Burnley Road, but I am almost certain the path between WA and the funeral directors is the only official public right of way in the area LB was last seen. Other than going up peel Park avenue.
The coppice can also be accessed:
Via Peel Park pub/Hotel (turkey Street)
Via Deerpark
Via kingsway opposite the Griffin's head pub
avenue parade
pinewood drive area (various entry points)
plantation Road
and I think from the other side of the A56 via a little subway.

I wonder if Lindsay saw, from an upstairs window in her house, Rocky acting suspiciously and went to check up what he was doing.
Perhaps Rocky used the chicken sheds as a sort of den .

The chicken sheds are very close...

However, would she not call it in for 101, rather than approach a teenager she doesn’t know?
